OUT 666-STL-TIDBITZ AND MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!

ITS WEDNESDAY

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

The big A& E newz bit from the ILLI and the MO is Cleveland

Cavaliers center Shaquille O'Neal is in St. Louis this week to film his new reality series “Shaq Vs.” , an ABC program in which he challenges various athletes at their sporting skill. In St. Louis, he will challenge superstar Cards player Albert Pujols to a hitting competition tomorrow, Thursday nite (on the Cards day off) at TR Hughes Ballpark - the home of the Rascals in O'Fallon MO (We heard that the free tickets to this event sold out as quick as you can spell Shaq!) Cardinals right fielder Ryan Ludwick is also reported to be part of the episode. Prior to Thursday, Shaq, who arrived in St. Louis Monday, threw out the first pitch at Tuesdays Cards game against the Reds., he attended a meet and greet party held at Pujols’ Bar and Restaurant Pujols 5 in Westport and there was a press conference held today at the Four Seasons near Lumiere Place. Fans on various blogs were sayaing taht Pujols should rest his arm. Hmm. But as far as Shaq is concerened, if he can only challenge himself to not make any more rap CDs or films….LOL

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
According to reports from
The Associated Press and Chicago Breaking News, ousted Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (PIC ABOVE) was hired by a video production company to turn up his collar and perform the version of Elvis’s “Treat Me Nice” embedded below to a crowd of about 200 people who gathered around a loading dock behind the firm’s studio in Chicago last Friday. Mr. Blagojevich’s new Web site, GovernorRod.com (which his publicist says will ensure that “those who can’t get enough of Rod Blagojevich” have a place to turn “24/7″), does not specify how much he charges for his Elvis impersonation, although it does include contact information for the agent who handles his public appearances.

According to reports, Blagojevich rehearsed at home all week, and even recorded a backing track in advance. Chicago Breaking News reported that when he arrived at the party, stepping from “the back of a white Hummer limousine,” Mr. Blagojevich was introduced to the crowd as “the governor of rock and roll!”

Well, we guess the ousted Illinois governor is doing all he can to be in the spotlight before his trial on allegedly trying to sell Obama’s seat in the Senate. And do you think the song he sang, “Treat Me Nice:” is any indication of his plea to the courts? LOL

Getting back to Pujols, the award winning Cards player hit a three-run double in PNC Park in Pittsburgh to reach 100 runs batted in for the ninth consecutive season and Adam Wainwright limited Pittsburgh to one run over 6 2/3 innings for his sixth consecutive road victory, leading the Cardinals past the Pirates, 5-3, on Saturday night.Pujols is the only National League player to begin his career with nine seasons of 100 or more RBIs. The only major leaguer with a longer streak is Hall of Famer Al Simmons, who had 11 consecutive seasons with the Philadelphia Athletics from 1924-34. Prior to his record breaking day, on last Friday, Pujols tended to a man who fell headfirst onto the field at PNC Park who was trying to catch ball for his son in the seventh inning Friday. The Cards fan reportedly fell from the first row face-first bloodying his face. Pujols was the first to arrive, consoling the man until the paramedics got to him and delaying the dame briefly .

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of the Cards, its home, Busch Stadium and its owners had to redo its math on its budget this week after having a surprisingly a bigger turnout of fans coming to the stadium than was expected. The Cardinals are about to sell their 3.2 millionth ticket and are on pace for 3.3 million in attendance. The influx of ticket sales from reports was the arrival of pitcher Matt Holliday and his home debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers, possessing the first of was the seven consecutive sellouts for the Cardinals. Also helping was the team still in 1st place in its division, , the 80th All-Star Game coming to St. Louis, and discount tickets. The owners budgeted for 3.2 million fans with a worse case scenario of 2.8 million way before the economic slump so they are rapidly working in a surplus.
Can you say, “Someone getting a fat bonus this Christmas?”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In other sports newz, its time for the arch rivalry competition in the Lou. It will be the Mizzou v fighting Illini Sept. 5 at the Edward Jones Dome. We hear that there was a limited number of tickets that went on sale in July to the football game. A first this year is that each of Mizzou’s first five games of the 2009 season will now be televised – marking a program first. The season starts on ESPN.

St. Louis native model/mogul Kimora Lee Simmons finally made public pics of her newborn baby. Simmons recently posed on the cover of OK Magazine to show off her new baby Kenzo with her boo actor/model Djimon Hounsou (in stores now) . Djimora welcomed their first child together in June. Talking about how her girls have adapted to having a new baby around, Kimora told Celebrity Baby Blog: “They’re like little mommies.
“They change the diapers, they push strollers, and when I take him into their room to tuck them in at night, they want him to get into the bed too.”
The shots of mother, child and father Djimon Hounsou were sold to OK! magazine, where an insider declined to say how much it paid for them — but laughed off a tip we’d gotten that it was under $10,000. That amount “is laughable and untrue. That wouldn’t cover her weekly salon bill.” The insider also claimed, “OK! was involved in discussions with Kimora about the baby photos from the day she announced her pregnancy.”
We guess she hurried to get the pics out there, cuz the longer she waited the less interested the media would have gotten cuz we almost forgot about her new baby to be quite honest.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Speaking of new babies, Oscar and Grammy Award winning singer Jennifer Hudson welcomed a bouncing baby boy Tuesday nite J. Hud delivered the baby boy late last night; the couple decided to name him after her hubby David Daniel Otunga Jr. Reportedly Jen and Punk didn’t know what gender the baby was until he was delivered. David weighed 7 lbs., 14 oz., and was in great condition.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.
St. Louis based comedian Cedric the entertainer kicked off his Be Cool Tour last week in Greensboro, NC. Other stops this month are, Tacoma, WA , Mountain View, CA , Houston, TX and , Charlotte, NC . Veteran rap group Whodini is coming to the STL to perform at the Ambassador on Sept. 4.

OUTTOWN EXCLUSIVE. Chi-town comic Vanessa Fraction—who has family in St. Louis—told OUTTOWN that she is still pursuing her suit against St. Louis native comic Joe Torry. When asked backstage about it before her recent performance at Fun E Kats ‘ Return of funny First Thursdays; at the Ambassador (SEE OUT 663) she said, “Oh yeah. I will pursue it before the statutes of limitations run out.” She said that she first had to take care of the family mainly her father who lives here in St. Louis who fell ill recently. ‘ In March, it was reported that Fraction was allegedly assaulted by Torry while on a bus during a comedy tour in Japan. Both comedians reportedly got into a “crack session” which led to their accounts of what happened of who assaulted whom first and who retaliated. Fraction was unable to press charges in Japan.

Hot 104.1 personality Boogie D won the EA First Fight 4 Video game challenge against St. Louis rapper Murphy Lee last Friday at the Loft. Boogie D won two rounds out of three. The challenge, which was to see who will win playing the game against each other where players can select star boxers to fight against their opponent from Heavyweights to Flyweights. Both guys had been playfully woofing for a weeks on each others’ talents and skills on Boogie D’s radio show and settled last week on the video game challenge. The bet was if Boogie lost, he would let Murph play dee-jay to his show for one day and if Murph lost, he would have to take 10 ladies and their guests out on the town. As of this writing, info on where Murph took his guests was not disclosed.

In unrelated Murph newz, he is searching for talent with “Making the Band Saint Louis.” In conjunction with Delux Magazine, Lee is calling for bands, singers, and musicians to send videotapes and mp3s, of your rendition of Murphy Lee's new hit single " MAD AT ME ft Day 26" from the St. Lunatics CD, “City Free.” (SEE AUDITION BITZ BELOW) and the magazine is sponsoring Murph in a concert Live and Unplugged Sept 11 at Old Rock House.

There were many local STL stars that appeared on the show including promoter Mocha Latte, Derrty ENT’s Shaki, KTVI personality April Simpson, singing trio Sosy and socialite/model Leah B. national stars that appeared on the show were actresses Jackee Harry and Hattie Winston and singer Ali Ollie Woodson. Locally, there was a get together of well wishers at the Side Bar on Washington (it was moved from the Skybox due to the venue not carrying the Style Network) to watch the episode. Attendees from the episode were Skylar (who needs to have his own reality show for real) and Mocha Latte .

MOCHA's CORNER

Miss Latte can be seen in the social life club pics in the latest issue of Alive Magazine!

Young Ro filmed a new video for his newest single, "Runway chick" last week at the old Dreams Nightclub on Washington. It was shot by Block DVD and the video chic starring in the video was reality show perosonality Caviar from "For the Love of Ray J."

Streetballers is an award winning film from a filmmaker groomed by Sundance, and represented by top Hollywood representation. And yes.... Living in Saint Louis. It is a truly independent project with years of hard work, thoughtfulness, and skill behind its execution and style. The extremely diverse and talented team behind Streetballers is and will be the key to all future success. We are young artist driven by love, loyalty and friendship. Our goal is to inspire as individuals and our film is a tool to inspire the masses. We’re planning on opening the film in Saint Louis, MO on August 21st then expanding to various cities with a large urban/sports/college market (Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit).

We have toured the U.S. and won numerous awards through festivals. We have turned down traditional distribution outlets and decided to self-distribute the film utilizing DCI compliant technology (Digital Projection). In Saint Louis, we set two records. The highest rated film in the history of the Saint Louis International Film festival (beating Oscar winning and nominated films Juno, The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire) and also the highest attendance record selling out the day before each screening.

We are looking to release the film in Saint Louis on August 21st we would like to stagger the release in other cities to late September/early October and try to release in conjunction with the LeBron James documentary being released by Lions Gate. Directed by St. Louis bred Matthew Scott Krentz, who also co-stars, Streetballers hit the festival circuit in June 2008, making its World Premiere at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. It has gone on to play in Saint Louis, Detroit, New York City, Nashville, North Carolina, and Philadelphia, winning multiple awards such as Best Dramatic Feature, an Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and a Second Place Jury Award for Best Feature Film.

The Streetballers team has attached the popular indie shoe company, Greedy Genius http://www.greedygenius.com/ to create and distribute the official Streetballers shoe, at Finish Line stores this fall. We have also attached three platinum hip-hop artist to the soundtrack and will be shooting the music video this spring to help promote the film and the soundtrackJust over a month ago, Streetballers writer/director/producer/co-star Matthew Krentz signed with APA and Leverage Management.

A portion of the proceeds from the soundtrack will be donated to several different charities. As we mentioned above the team is comprised of loyal,hardworking and loving artists who are dedicated to reaching up, reaching out and giving back to the St.Louis community. We realize and embrace our roles as mentors.We except that esponsibility, while challenging ourselves to be the best rolemodels we can be,we stress education;because without education would not be where we are today.

The Streetballers team has an extremely popular film, with a ton of street credit, and has developed a tremendous theatrical strategy of releasing the film in theatres across the U.S. with the Streetballers producer/actors and director touring with the film.

St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music. To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising. Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.Currently, Cornelius is building a base of founding members, developing a board of directors, and lining up performances for the 2009-2010 season The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center. The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage. For additional information or to schedule an interview, please contact Sarah Thompson at 314.898.8388 or sarahtproductions@gmail.com.

KMJM personality Tammi Holland sent OUTTOWN an uplifting email from dress collector Tracie Ousley.It reads:There have been a lot of parents that have lost their jobs and have daughters that may not be able to participate in a day that you can never get back, their senior prom. I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking,” what can I do to make a difference.” As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. “I can start a collection and give back to the community.” So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea.
