St. Louis got all up in sports last weekend. First was Rams fans gettin their first look at the upgraded Edward Jones Dome. The Rams on Friday were hosting their preseason home opener against Atlanta, the first game since millions of dollars were spent to upgrade the dome. The changes include new close-to-the-field seats, high-definition scoreboards, new menu choices and a large sports bar. helping the Atlanta Falcons to a 20-13 win over the St. Louis Rams Friday night at Edward Jones Dome.
Next, Former junior middleweight title challenger Deandre Latimore (PICTURED ABOVE--20-2, 16 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over veteran Sammy Sparkman (21-20-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. Latimore, currently rated at #7 by the IBF, got back into the win column after a split decision loss to local rival Cory Spinks in a battle for the IBF world title in April.

Local St. Louis filmmakers had a lot to celebrate over the weekend as STREETBALLERS premiered in St. Louis playing exclusive engagements at Landmark’s Tivoli and Weherenberg Ronnies 20. We are very happy to report that the film was a resounding success! The film made $11,581 over the weekend (It was No. 1 at Tivoli and No. 2 at Ronnies behind INGLORIOUS BASTERDS) at the two theaters making it have the 9th largest average in the country! When adding in only independent features it was 6th in the nation. As a result, the film will be carried over for this following weekend for the upcoming week.” In related news, in conjunction with the St. Louis release of the locally-shot movie comes the “Streetballers” soundtrack, with songs from Murphy Lee, Yung Ro, Joka, and many more. Get the soundtrack at www.streetballersthemovie.com, at
the Tivoli, Ronnie’s 20 Cine, or by calling 314-646-9917.

Heartthrob singer was at Trey Songs performed Tuesday night at the Venue, in Wellston to a packed house of screaming girls (it was stupid packed, pandemonium according to a source). The admission to the event was FREE and the “girls” had to be 21 and up (which is unfortunate cuz we are sure most of his fan base are teen girls). Songs also did a meet and greet after his concert, but we hear he got on stage well after midnite (the doors opened at 10 p.m.) so we are sure there were some anxious fans awaiting him but we are sure when he arrived, panties were getting creamed! LOL . This is Songs’ second appearance here in the Lou. He was here for 104. 1’s Superjam in June. he also did an interview today, Wednesday with Staci Static on her radio show on Hot 104.1 talkin about his upcoming CD, Ready that will be released August 31. Songs also was still in town to take one lucky lady out to lunch while he was here sponsored by the radio station.

For yawl Maxheads, Maxwell tickets for his Oct 9 show at Scott Trade center goes on sale this weekend!

SPILTSVILEL FOR ASHANELLY? Has Ashanelly split? That’s what reports are saying. R&B star Ashanti and STL based rapper Nelly have reportedly called off their romance. Ashanti reportedly broke it off with Nelly over his alleged cheating ways. According to mediatakeout, Ashanti was ready to settle down, while her beau wanted to sow his wild oats. They also reported that the rapper has been canoodling with video vixen Jessica Rabbit. The hip-hop supercouple managed to keep their four-year romance secret until Nelly confirmed in November (08) they are in fact a couple. Ashanti even admitted in March (09) that a
wedding was "absolutely in the cards" for the pair. Wow, if this is so, maybe thats why Nelly vamped. You cant force a man to marry if he is not ready. He gotta be ready . Oh well, it could have been much worse, Nelly coulda been doing hard community labor. LOL

Midwest- based artists had serious challenges on two national reality competitions. On the season premiere of Lifetime’s “Project Runway,” (entitled, “Welcome to Los Angeles”) St. Louis native-cum NYC resident Qristyl Frazier(who calls her designs plus-sexy PICTURED in black shirt) has it hard on her first challenge (which was create a red-carpet look from their point of view) with the judges(including celeb judge Lindsay Lohan) but she was able to advance to the next round after being in the bottom three along with Kansas City. Mo native Ari Fish (15 out of 18 survived) . To peep the episode go to

Also on the challenge was Chi-towns Melody Angel who is still in the competition on P Diddy’s “Starmaker: show on MTV. She along with the other five ladies performed for the episode. Angle did a soulful interpretation of Kelly Clarkson’s Because of You and the results were mixed from the judges but she was able to advance to the next round(11 survived ). STL native Todd Sarvies will perform next weekend with the men. To peep the episode go to

Also, Alsatian-born chef Hubert Keller beat 21 other chefs to make it to the final three and then came in third place last Wednesday night on Bravo’s Top Chef Master. Keller owns two restaurants at the Lumiere Place casino complex on the riverfront — Burger Bar St. Louis and SLeeK Steakhouse and Ultra Lounge. He also hosts the award-winning “Hubert Keller: Secrets of a Chef,” on PBS. The winner was Chitown’s , Rick Bayless, owner of Chicago’s Frontera Grill and the more elegant Topolobampo. Throughout the run of the show, Keller won several challenges and was able to contribute $20,000 to the charity of his choice, the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT

Wells Fargo Slim

Yomi Martin

Lush will now turn into Karma this weekend. The former club Lush located on Locust is now called Karma. The owners are former Lush owners Loose Cannon’s Wells Fargo Slim and former Vokal VP and Nelly’s cuz Yomi Martin (PICTURED) will have a Grand Opening Weekend this weekend....

UPDATE: THIS IS EVENT IS POSTPONED

To celebrate they will bring in sexy R&B singer Mya to host on Friday and...

Heartthrob R&B singer Mario to performed on Saturday....and

....on Sunday, there will be a Blackout party hosted by NBA SUPERSTAR JOSH SMITH OF THE ATLANTA HAWKS. And we hear err body must wear black to get in. NO EXCEPTIONS. We hear that the club is totally renovated and the once red colored upstairs area is now white., called Heaven (a opposed to Hell red. LOL). We hear that the club got a Vegas motif that will get folks talkin. The club closed shop in April when it was rumored (and from key sources) that when the new owners inherited the debt from the old Lush owners, Slim and company also inherited the responsibility to keep the club open without knowledge of the old owners’ business dealings. As a result of those unknown circumstances, the club had to close. But we hear Slim and wanted to hang on in there so the STL can have something thay can have if their own. Well, you know them in ST. Louis, you gotta show them before you tell them. But we are sure the club will spark up the club scene once again.

OUTTOWN EXCLUSIVE

St. Lunatic Murphy Lee will not be part of Liquid assets’ Follow the Leaders event this Thursdays a special edition of the promotions group’s weekly Red Hott Thursdays. It was advertised on Facebook that he along with model Tamika Shanelle were celebrating the release of their projects (Murph’s Murph Derrty/You See Me CD and Shanelle’s cover girl cover on Straight Stuntin Magazine), but this week on FB, it is just Shanelle who is celebrating. From a source, apparently someone from the event’s promotions team talked with some third party folk about bringing in Murph without actually getting permission from Derrty ENT/UC Me reps (Murphy Lee’s label). So, as a result, Murph is out. He will have his own party for his CD that will be released in coming days. Well, we are glad that is straightened out cuz I can see some folk tearin the club up if folk found out Murph wasn’t showing up.

NITE and BOOGIE BEEF

NITE OWL

CUDDY

St. Louis underground hip-hop rapper Nite Owl has beef yet again. Now it’s with the radio station Hot 104.1 and its program director Boogie D. Recently, he got on all the social networking spots and promoted his song, ”The Art of War,” a diss record against Hot 104.1 and its personalities Boogie D and Cuddy . The beef started when Nite Owl got the feeling he was totally ignored by the station when he won the radio station’s sponsored the Koch Madness hip –hop competition last year
.
Here’s what Nite Owl says in the first verse (objectionable language is in the first two lines):
I know some bitches named Cuddy and Boogie D
And both of these ho’s have disrespected me
I let it linger for a year with no apology
But now I gotta strike back, it’s just my policy
Naw, this aint a joke this is real business.”
OUCH
Click here to listen to “The Art of War.”
There were no further reports on what Boogie D or Cuddy had to say about the diss (Maybe theer are some legal things that’s about to pop off. ) but earlier this year, Nite Owl sent out a pisse doff letter to the media expressing his displeasure with how things went down with the contest (SEE OUT 567
http://maatspear.blogspot.com/2009/03/out-567-stl-tidbitz-and-more.html)
On a lighter note, Nite Owl will perform at Vintage Vinyl at 7 p.m. Sept. 11, as he promotes his latest CD “Boo’s & Cheers.”

Hmm, is it us or does it seem as though Nite Owl is trying to get more publicity for himself now that his CD is about to be released? To play Devil’s Advocate, Hot 104.1 can only do so much to promote an artist and if we recollect, didn’t Nite Owl break down about how the contest and its contract had wordings that reflected how much promotion he was actually going to receive? We are just saying.

BAR-BITZ
Three bars in the St. Louis are have made changes—some for the best. The once popular Posh Lounge located in the Central West End has closed shop permanently. Its owner, Jeff Neely, closed the bar temporarily in June with the intent of reopening, but its now a wrap for the venue. It reopened in 2007 as Posh after it was bought out and called Churchill’s. The bar and lounge Peppertini’s Bar and Grill in Chesterfield is under new management and will eventually be renamed now called Seasons. And lastly, this week it was reported form a Kathy’s Cozy Up in University City will get bought out. Renovations will start this week but there were no further info as to when or what the bar will be retitled. But we do know that the owners got a good deal and that they will develop a health care biz and a another bar (Let’s hope it’s not connected together cuz that would be hilarious. LOL)

This week on the OUTTOWN SHOW we talk to STL funny guy ARVIN MICTHELL. It will air this Thursday at 5 p.m. CST . To peep it go to
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/maatology

Last Sunday, OUTTOWN checked out Chi-town new media journalist Waddie Grant’s annual White Party that was held at the Vertigo Sky Lounge located on the Top (28th) floor of the beautiful Dana Hotel in downtown Chi-town. The event also doubled as a going away party for Grant who is going to the NYC. Hosting this well diverse party (whites, blacks, male, female, straight and alternative) was Brit actor Jason Steed (PICTURED) who is famous in the U.S. for his hilarious role as Baby Gat in the short lived series, ”Noah’s Arc” and the indy film, “Jumpin the Broom.” (See PICS at OUT 675) OUTTOWN had the chance to interview Steed briefly during the party and here’s a transcript of that:

MAAT: Now with you living in Los Angeles coming from London, do you find the acting business challenging here?
STEED: Oh yeah, I mean. In American there are a lot of rules but in England you can get to be quite rambunctious. I mean, its like the law over there.

MAAT: Whats next up for you?
STEED: Well, I’m working on a one-man show in L.A. Its going to be educational and inspirational and a lot of other media involved in it . Multimedia stuff.

MAAT: Oh, like video screens while your on stage and things?
STEED: Yeah, something like that.

MAAT: When will that take place?
STEED: Hopefully in November.

MAAT: Finally, your fans know you as the hip-hop thug Brit rapper Baby Gat on "Noah’s Arc.” What has been the weirdest question someone has asked you about your role on that show?
STEED (thinking) Hmm. Wow. I don’t really know, but I’m not really embarrassed by what people have to ask me. Many people ask me questions about how was it like kissing Noah (on the show) or things like that but they really wanna know if I’m straight or gay,. You know, but I don’t have a problem people asking me about that.

And we are sure you all wanna know if OUTTOWN asked him, well, we didn’t. LOL

St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music. To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising. Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.Currently, Cornelius is building a base of founding members, developing a board of directors, and lining up performances for the 2009-2010 season The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center. The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage.
