Before we get into the A & E in the ILLI and MO, I ran into a funny and hilarious clip from the classic 1980s sitcoms "Gimme a Break" starring the late actress Nell carter entitled PORKOS’s (and you can just imagine what the episode is about). OK NOW TO The A &E.The big newz thing this week and part of last week was the 80th Annual Major league baseball League All Star Game that was here in St. Louis (a first since 1966) and televised nationally. The game and the events that lead to the game made headlines .
The American League won over the National League through the final seven innings secure a 4-3 victory in last Tuesdays game, but the highlights were the events leading up to the game such as
The President of the United States Barack Obama threw the ceremonial pitch to Cards First Baseman Albert Pujols (PICTURE COURESY OF MLB.COM) who had a special glove Obama 44 to catch it (we hear Obama warmed up in the war up area of Busch Stadium before he got the ball from Cards legend Stan Musial—who was honored as well). The gab was mainly on how he threw it and what he had on (A White Sox jersey). On the jacket during an in-game booth interview, Obama reportedly said “Everybody knows I’m a White Sox fan, and my wife thinks I look cute in this jacket, so between those two things why not?”
How cool is that?
Missouri native Sheryl Crow sang the National Anthem (she also performed the Charity Concert along with Elvis Costello under the Archgrounds Saturday night)
All the MLB players and invited legendary b-ballers took part in the red carpet event where a long red carpet draped Market Street from 4th to 8th streets as thousands caught a glimpse of their favorite all-star including Albert Pujols (PICTURE BY CARLSTON EDWARDS)
On Monday, folk checked out the HOME DERBY wherr Prince Fielder won the State Farm Home Run Derby with crowd fave Albert Pujols and STL native Ryan Howard were eliminated in the second round. Fielder won with a display that included a homerun at 503 feet..
On Sunday, there was a celebrity softball game that took place at Busch stadium. Celebs included Nelly (PHOTO BY MTV.COM) Chingy, Andy Richter, Ashanti, Billy Bob Thornton , Ginuwine, James Denton, and Jon Hamm to name a few. The baseball legends who played were Ozzie Smith, and Dave Winfield.
Then their werr a slew of afterparties for the public as well as private. Some of the private affairs included Mike Shannon’s 70th b-day party at Cielo’s in Lumere Place which had attendees such as Bob Costas, Sen. Claire McCaskill, actors Jon Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton and James Denton and Hip hop acts Nelly and Ginuwine.
Nelly was also spotted at an after party that also saw rock legend Chuck Berry.
OUTTOWN managed to go to the red carpet portion of Ryan Howard’s bash Monday at Lumen (SEE OUT 647 for PICS) where several MLB players including Barry Larkin and Derek Jeter and rap legend/entertainer DMC attended.
Also on Monday, At Lure Nightclub, was the Playboy Party were sportscaster and HBO personality Joe Buck, Nelly and . Cedric the Entertainer were seen (WE ALSO GOT SCOOP ON THIS PARTY AT OUT 647 ).
We also hear that St. Lunatics member Murphy Lee had a shindig near the Millennium Hotel
On Tuesday, OUTTOWN peeped out gentleman jack’s After party at Exo where several MLB players attended and rap legend DMC came and performed (SEE OUT 648 )
We also heard that Michael Jordan, Ll Cool J, Jay Z, Beyonce and Halle berry were spotted in the ST. Louis area but no reports on whether they attended any afterparties.

Three STL journalists are back as of late (and we do mean late). First up we just found out this week that former STL Mayor Freeman Bosley Junior (UPPER LEFT) is back on the radio waves with the Freeman Bosley Junior Show (along with co-host Pat Washington) . A few months back, the show was pulled from 100.3 The Beat on Sunday Monings. Well, it’s been back on air for about a month and it is now heard on Saturdays at 10 am on KATZ 1600. Third is former St. Louis American City Editor and current fill-in Donnybrook personality Alvin Reid (LOWER LEFT ) . E also found out this week that Reid is currently a reporter for the St. Louis Argus. He’s been there since May. After his firing earlier this year, he did part work on 101 ESPN FM Radio.

The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center. The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage. During the two-month renovation, Reggie’s Backstage will not only revamp its interior by incorporating sharp R&B style into the décor, but executive chef Peter Barken will also tweak its menu of contemporary American cuisine with new dishes and entrees that have a nice southern flair. It is a truly independent project with years of hard work, thoughtfulness, and skill behind its execution and style. The extremely diverse and talented team behind Streetballers is and will be the key to all future success. We are young artist driven by love, loyalty and friendship. Our goal is to inspire as individuals and our film is a tool to inspire the masses. We’re planning on opening the film in Saint Louis, MO on August 21st then expanding to various cities with a large urban/sports/college market (Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit). We have toured the U.S. and won numerous awards through festivals. Disney Theatrical Productions and Fox Associates have announced that tickets for the St. Louis premiere of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s MARY POPPINS featuring original Broadway stars Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee will go on sale to the public on Sunday, April 26 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Fox Theatre box office and all MetroTix outlets. Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.metrotix.com/ or by calling 314-534-1111. KEZK’s Ed Goodman will be at the Fox Theatre box office where the first 102 ticket buyers will receive MARY POPPINS merchandise. Broadway’s perfectly magical musical will begin performances at the Fox Theatre on Thursday, August 13 for a limited engagement of three weeks through Sunday, August 30.

In Saint Louis, we set two records. The highest rated film in the history of the Saint Louis International Film festival (beating Oscar winning and nominated films Juno, The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire) and also the highest attendance record selling out the day before each screening. We are looking to release the film in Saint Louis on August 21st we would like to stagger the release in other cities to late September/early October and try to release in conjunction with the LeBron James documentary being released by Lions Gate.
Directed by St. Louis bred Matthew Scott Krentz, who also co-stars, Streetballers hit the festival circuit in June 2008, making its World Premiere at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. It has gone on to play in Saint Louis, Detroit, New York City, Nashville, North Carolina, and Philadelphia, winning multiple awards such as Best Dramatic Feature, an Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and a Second Place Jury Award for Best Feature Film. The Streetballers team has attached the popular indie shoe company, Greedy Genius http://www.greedygenius.com/ to create and distribute the official Streetballers shoe, at Finish Line stores this fall. We have also attached three platinum hip-hop artist to the soundtrack and will be shooting the music video this spring to help promote the film and the soundtrack

St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music. To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising. Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.
