OUT 654--STl TIDBITZ AND more!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS
ITS WEDNESDAY!
TIME TO GET TOWNED!

The national newz A &E item with Missouri ties was the death of legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite at the age of 92. He was born in St. Joseph , Mo.
November 4, 1916 – July 17, 2009)
[2][3][4] was an American broadcast journalist, best known as anchorman for the CBS Evening News (and his tag line” And that’s; the way it was.” )for 19 years (1962–81). During the heyday of CBS News in the 1960s and 1970s, he was often cited in viewer opinion polls as "the most trusted man in America" because of his professional experience and kindly demeanor.[5][6] Although he reported many events from 1937-1981, including bombing in World War II, the Nuremberg trials, combat in the Vietnam War,[7] the death of JFK, Watergate, and the Iran Hostage Crisis, he was known for extensive TV coverage of the U.S. space program, from Project Mercury to the Moon landings (with co-host Wally Shirra), to the Space Shuttle. He was the only non-NASA recipient of a Moon-rock award. The Beatles' first American TV broadcast was with Walter Cronkite.

Cronkite was married for nearly sixty-five years to Mary Elizabeth 'Betsy' Maxwell Cronkite (January 25, 1916 - March 15, 2005),
[34] whom he married on March 30, 1940. They remained together until her death. They had three children: Nancy Cronkite, Mary Kathleen Cronkite (Kathy) Cronkite and Walter Leland (Chip) Cronkite III (who is married to actress Deborah Rush).[2][5]
Cronkite also had four grandchildren William Maxwell Cronkite-Ikard, John Macintosh Cronkite-Ikard, Peter Cronkite and Walter Cronkite IV. Peter and Walter are alumni of
St. Bernard's School.[35] Peter Cronkite is currently attending Horace Mann School. Walter attends Hamilton College, having graduated from the same school.
In late June, Cronkite was reported to be gravely ill and on the verge of death.
[37] Despite denials of his illness, Cronkite died on July 17, 2009, at his home in New York City, at the age of 92. He is believed to have died from cerebral vascular disease.[38

It was reported that he would be buried in St. Joseph, Mo.

Former Falcons QB Michael Vick has completed his 23 month prison sentence this week and qualifies to be reinstated in the NFL. There have been rumors that the St. Louis Rams had interest in possibly hiring Vick next season to replace current QB Marc Bolger . A poll of Vick’s Rams possibilities was done this week on Radio One radio personality Boogie D’s afternoon show on Hot 104.1 (He said on his show that men may have problems with their women on this one. LOL) where callers called in their opinions (which were favorable) said that the poll results would be given to the rams organization to voice off their approval of Vick playing for the Rams. So what do you think? Do you think the Rams should scoop him up? Our thing is, will there be a rams organization in St Louis? From all the rumors that the team may move out of the city and all. Guess we have to wait and see.

STL based rap superstar Nelly is back on the airwaves with a new song “ 1000 Stacks” with rap mogul Diddy with a sampled hook by late rapper Notorious B.I.G. The song was produced by ATL hit producer Don Vito-and will be on Nelly’s forthcoming, yet-untitled LP, set for November. The single has had mixed reviews.

Congrats to St. Louis native actor Jon Hamm who received two Emmy nominations last week. Hamm received a nod for best actor in A Drama for the nominated show, “Mad Men” and a nod for Guest Actor in a Comedy for “30 Rock.”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The 80th MLB ALL-STAR GAME, that was televised from St. Louis, was watched by an impressive total of 33.6 million viewers, supplanting last year’s Yankee Stadium extravaganza as the most-watched Midsummer Classic since 1999 (36.9 million), according to Nielsen Media Research.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of Nelly, there were rumors going on last week that STL rapper Chingy was joining Derrty ENT as an artist. Well according to
www.stlhiphop.com, those rumors are false after Kyjuan chime din on the sight and said, "Naw he not signed to derrty. His new mgr (manager)situation involves some of our mgment (management) so we try to keep him close" - Kyjuan, St. Lunatics” Hmm, keep him close. Wonder what that means? Close seems as though he is affiliated to us.

Locally, Face Off had its annual fashion show that was held at the SLU Center last Saturday. Hundreds attended the event that also double as a tribute to the late STL designer Shawn Williams (who died in a hit and run accident last fall) whose design line , Eyekon was among several designers who were featured in the straight runway show. Others included Adikiton Toi Notebook, IAM and Design Democratic. It was hosted by Williams’ cousin, Mocha Latte of Monopoly Promotions. (For pics GO To OUT 651 AND 652 )

And in other Derrty ENT newz, its president, St. Lunatic member, Ali, who recently celebrated his b-day a few weeks ago with a big party at Skybox on the Landing, dropped a bomb of sorts about his personal life—so it seems. On the radio ad promoting his b-day party, Ali said that he had “a new wife and a new life.” Is this speculation that he is on the outs with his current wife, Lillian (PICTURED) and has a new boo? Maybe we heard the ad wrong, but others who heard the commercial thought the same thing. We ain’t trying to cause no rumors or friction, but we just wondering what’s going on with that Ali said.

Another Ali made newz as well. STL model Alli Niocle has made national headlines as the baby mamma to former Grand Hustle artist Alpha Omega. It was reported from a source that she denied that he was the daddy at her recent baby shower he had then all of a sudden,
www.mediataleout.com reported that he was indeed the daddy.

What’s up with Miss Nicole keeping the daddy secret (that’s worse than Jennifer Hudson trying to deny she was pregnant touring around with a protruding belly and having a undisclosed—cum—disclosed baby shower ) well, for one, thing, she definitely will get publicity for this, but will it be the right kind to help her modeling flourishing modeling career?

THE JAZZ SPOT celebrated its one year in biz last weekend. And to celebrate the venue brrought in R&B singers CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS and GLENN JONES.

King Magazine Model/Wild N Out personality Zena will host Liquid Assets’ Red Hott Thursdays this Thursday.

STL rapper Ebony Eyez is back. This week she announced the release date of her new mixtape, “Nice Girls Finish Last.” Which will be released August 19. The mixtape will feature STL artists Penelope Jones, Chocolate Tai, Moody Swing, Aloha, Murphy Lee and 12 year old Teiona, Ebony Eyez’s protégé.
For more information on Ebony Eyez and to hear more music from NiceGirlz Finish Last visit her MySpace page at

And speaking of STL rappers with mixtapes, East St. Louis based female act Unladylike is releasing its first major mixtape. The mixtape includes several original tracks as well as freestyles. For more info go to

WORDZ to THE WHYz. Why do people who drive fast drive in the slow lane? Why are the Republicans afraid to pass Obama’s Health care package? And why folk rippin what type jeans Obama wore at the All Star game? Why haven’t comedians Myra J and Jedda Jones (aka Miss Dupree_) haven’t been on the Tom Joyner Morning Show for months now? Why do people say when you are working out on work out equipment, “How much longer do you have?” Why are Internet sites making such a big hoopla over actor Mechad Brooks doing a nude scene on the HBO series, “True Blood?” Why didn’t Jill Scott get an Emmy nomination for Best actress sin a Drama for her role in “Lady Detective ?” And Why did it seem Michael Jackson’s father, Joe, was totally clueless of his son when Larry King interviewed him?

Streetballers is an award winning film from a filmmaker groomed by Sundance, and represented by top Hollywood representation. And yes.... Living in Saint Louis. It is a truly independent project with years of hard work, thoughtfulness, and skill behind its execution and style. The extremely diverse and talented team behind Streetballers is and will be the key to all future success. We are young artist driven by love, loyalty and friendship. Our goal is to inspire as individuals and our film is a tool to inspire the masses. We’re planning on opening the film in Saint Louis, MO on August 21st then expanding to various cities with a large urban/sports/college market (Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit). We have toured the U.S. and won numerous awards through festivals. We have turned down traditional distribution outlets and decided to self-distribute the film utilizing DCI compliant technology (Digital Projection).

In Saint Louis, we set two records. The highest rated film in the history of the Saint Louis International Film festival (beating Oscar winning and nominated films Juno, The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire) and also the highest attendance record selling out the day before each screening. We are looking to release the film in Saint Louis on August 21st we would like to stagger the release in other cities to late September/early October and try to release in conjunction with the LeBron James documentary being released by Lions Gate.

Directed by St. Louis bred Matthew Scott Krentz, who also co-stars, Streetballers hit the festival circuit in June 2008, making its World Premiere at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. It has gone on to play in Saint Louis, Detroit, New York City, Nashville, North Carolina, and Philadelphia, winning multiple awards such as Best Dramatic Feature, an Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and a Second Place Jury Award for Best Feature Film.
The Streetballers team has attached the popular indie shoe company, Greedy Genius http://www.greedygenius.com/ to create and distribute the official Streetballers shoe, at Finish Line stores this fall. We have also attached three platinum hip-hop artist to the soundtrack and will be shooting the music video this spring to help promote the film and the soundtrackJust over a month ago, Streetballers writer/director/producer/co-star Matthew Krentz signed with APA and Leverage Management. A portion of the proceeds from the soundtrack will be donated to several different charities.
As we mentioned above the team is comprised of loyal, hardworking and loving artists who are dedicated to reaching up, reaching out and giving back to the St.Louis community. We realize and embrace our roles as mentors. We except that esponsibility, while challenging ourselves to be the best rolemodels we can be,we stress education;because without education would not be where we are today. The Streetballers team has an extremely popular film, with a ton of street credit, and has developed a tremendous theatrical strategy of releasing the film in theatres across the U.S. with the Streetballers producer/actors and director touring with the film.

St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music. To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising. Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.
Currently, Cornelius is building a base of founding members, developing a board of directors, and lining up performances for the 2009-2010 season The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center. The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage. KMJM personality Tammi Holland sent OUTTOWN an uplifting email from dress collector Tracie Ousley. It reads:There have been a lot of parents that have lost their jobs and have daughters that may not be able to participate in a day that you can never get back, their senior prom. I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking,” what can I do to make a difference.” As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. “I can start a collection and give back to the community.” So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea.
