OUT 682--STL TIDBITZ

HELLO OUTTOWNERS! ITS WEDNESDAY--TIME TO GET TOWNED

Before we get into the A&E of the ILLI AN MO, we need for you to us a favor, we need for you to vote OUTTOWN (maatology.blogspot.com) for Best blog in the RiverFront Times’ best of 2009 Poll. You can go to the poll at
http://polls.riverfronttimes.com/polls/stl/bestof2009All ballots must be received by Monday, September 14 and the results will be published in the October 1 issue of the Riverfront Times.

After we went to blog post last Wednesday, he got newz that longtime KMOX broadcast journalist Jim White had passed. Known as "The Big Bumper” and famous for hangin up on people, White died last of complications from surgery, according to reports . He was 72. According to stltoday.com, White joined KMOX as an assistant news director in 1969, launching a 30-year career with the station. He held various positions there but for 20 years reigned over the hours either side of midnight, with the clear-channel station's powerful transmitter sending his voice out to much of North America. Mr. White was born and raised in western Pennsylvania. Before coming to St. Louis, he was a rock jock at Pittsburgh's WJAS and then moved to that city's KDKA, ala KMOX.

AND NOW THIS WEEK in the A & E in the ILLI and MO:

The big story in the STLarea was the Arch Rivalry Game with the Fighting Illni and Mizzou held last Saturday at the Edward Jones Dome when Mizzou defeated the University of Illinois Fighting Illini 37-9. The Mizzou Tigers took home the Arch Rivalry trophy for the third year in a row. According to reports, Illinois scored their fewest points since losing 10-6 at Iowa in the middle of the 2007 season. Currently the Arch Rivalry Game is scheduled as the opening game of the season for both teams, for the 2007 through 2010 seasons. After the 2010 season, the series will cease for at least the next few years
[1]. Mizzou leads the series 16-7.The game was televised live on ESPN. Also, all 70,000 seats were sold at the Dome and even more hundreds surrounding the Dome with tailgate parties (and parking nearby we saw went as high as 30 dollars!)

In Chitown, two superstar natives made news this week being on one show:

Thousands of Oprah Winfrey's fans was on tap on Michigan Avenue Tuesday to help the talk show celebrate the 24th season of her show with a public taping party that included the Black Eyed Peas and Rascal Flats, chitiown native Jennifer Hudson, James Taylor and magician Criss Angel. The special outdoor event took place on a three-block stretch of Michigan Avenue aka The Magnificent Mile-- near the Chicago River. The taping was free and open to the public.

+++++++++++++
Speaking of Hudson, the award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson was one of the female singers added to the newly revamped
VH1 Divas show. She will join fellow "American Idol" alums Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson for the big show on September 17, hosted by former "American Idol" judge, Paula Abdul. Also on the bill are Missouri native Sheryl Crow, Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheridge, Miley Cyrus, Adele and Leona Lewis. In related news, it has been reports that Hudson finally tied the know with boyfriend and baby daddy Davdi Ortunga over last weekend.

Several area female personalities are making rounds on the national reality competition shows. First up is Chi-town native Melody Angel who barely made it into the next round of P Diddy’s Starmaker show last Sunday on MTV. The alto singer guitarist was in the bottom two of the five ladies who were performed on last week’s episodes. She sang Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone:” much to the lackluster of the judges. Check out the episode at

http://www.mtv.com/videos/p-diddys-starmaker-ep-4/1620697/playlist.jhtml

Also getting the same bottom two predicament was STL native designer Qrystal Frazier who squeaked by the fourth round to make it to the next round of the Lifetime show, “Project Runway.” In the last episode which aired last Thursday, the designers were taken to the beach, where they were told to create a fashionable, surfer-inspired outfit, and were placed in teams of two which was later discovered that the team would also be creating an avant-garde look inspired by their ready-to-wear, surfer-inspired outfit.: She was chosen as team leader but was weakened by her teammate Rodney Epperson. To see teh episode go to

Speaking of area competitors and reality shows, Three area based models will be of the 13 who were selected on this season’s America’s Next Top Model that makes its season premiere tonite on the CW. They are Kara Vincent and Ashley Howard from Chitown and Erin Wagner who’s currently living in Spring Grove, Ill . This season’s theme were models who’s height was 5’ 7” or shorter. Tune in and see if Howard is voted as one of the ones cast in the house! STL native model Shannell Howard we believe will also be on that debut episode but based on the website, she was not one of the 13 chosen.

'The Wendy Williams Show' debuted in the STL area this past Monday on KLTVI-Cahnenl. It airs weekdays at 1 p.m.

St. Lunatics rapper Murphy Lee’s unplugged concert has been moved in the date and venue. It was originally supposed to be Sept 11 at the Old Rock House but now it is scheduled to be at Home Nightclub in St. Charles on Sept 25. It is promoted by Delux Magazine. For more info go to
www.delux-mag.com.

TREY SONGZ

MARIO

DAY 26

Speaking of concerts, it was announced this week that R&B heartthrob/multi STL appearance artists Trey Songz and Mario with Day26 will be in concert Oct 16 at the Pageant. Songz was just in St. Louis for a FREE concert at the Venue last month and Superjam 2 at Verizon Wirelss Ampitheatre in July. Mario was supped to appear in St. Louis earlier this year at the family Arena (with Bow Wow but was cancelled0 and make an appearance at the Grand Opening Weekend of Karma Nightclub (but the opening was postponed) and Day 26 was in town twice before. The first was at a CD Release party at The Venue in April and Superjam 2 in July. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Go to www.ticketmaster.com.

STL based films are making national buzz. As reported last week, the STL filmed movie STREETBALLERS will make its national debut at the famous Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Sept 25. To celebrate, the producers of the film will have a party for the soundtrack of the film on Sunday, Sept 13 at the Black Label Gallery Lounge at 3 p.m. as part of the Day Party event there. Scheduled to perform are Aloha, Vega and Yung Ro to name a few. Tickets are $10 (Its also a fundraiser for the trip to Hollywood) You must RSVP by Sept 11 at
streetballersthemovie@gmail.com

The Toronto International Film Festival, which continues through Sept. 19. will screen ST. Louis area based films there. On Sept 18, the Steven Soderbergh's comedy "The Informant" will be screened. Starring Oscar winner Matt Damon and Kirkwood native/Emmy nominee Scott Bakula, is a base don a book based on a true story about corruption in the agriculture industry. The film was set in Decatur, Ill. and was partly filmed in St. Louis.

Also screening at Toronto is the George Clooney film "Up in the Air," a comedy about a corporate downsizer. Cast and filmed mostly in St. Louis (mainly Lambert Airport) in April and May of this year, the film, which we hear is getting early Oscar buzz, is reportedly set to screen at the St. Louis International Film Festival in November before opening u nationwide in December.

+++++++++++++++++
The rescheduling of the Grand Opening Weekend of Karma nightclub (formerly Lush ) will be Sept 25 to Sept 27. No word on whether Mya and Mario were rescheduled to host as well. Last weekend the Grand Opening of Karma that was suppose break grounds at Lush, but was postponed on the day of the first nite on last Friday with singer Mya hosting. Rumors swirled for reasons for the postponement (from not passing inspection to not being approved of a liquor license) but club owners Wellz Fargo Slim and Yomi Martin are assuring partiers on his Facebook page that he “jus(sic) got off the phone wit (sic)my lawyer.”
We assume that Slim got legal advice to see the validity of the city not issuing his license to operate. Hmm, well, let's hope second time is the charm for this new venture which we hear suppose to be set on Vegas style parties.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OUTTOWN attended a private party at Mandarin in the CWE put on by Koncepts and Synergy to celebrate the upcoming NFL season. Hosting were Rams players James Butler (who also was celebrating his bday as well) and Ron Bartell, and other Rams teammates. The main ram players came through dressed surprisingly very casual in tees, jeans and sneaks. They arrived around midnite as several hundred partied with them (more like gawking at them in the VIP area). In the house were LME’s Tim Cortez and Otto Nichols, and Close Tim famous’ Triky.

++++++++++++++++++++++++
St. Louis native comedian Darius Bradford’s set was aired on Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment- on the "Starz" cable network. Sept. 4th. (Check your local listings for future airings). Also last week, Bradford had a comedy show at Celebrity Nites in North County last Wednesday that he hosted. The show was supposedly a showcase for local networks ABC, CBS, NBC and TV One (and one has reportedly bit) to come to the Lou and film it for the possibilities for his show to be filmed locally here in St. Louis. Too bad that the crowd didn’t come out strong as he once hoped but much of that had to do with Bradford’s last minute decision to move the venue of the show from his mainstay, Lites on Broadway in Baden to Celebrity Nites. From a source, the reason of the change was cuz Bradford liked the venue better.
