OUT 679--STL-TIBITZ AND MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS! ITS WEDNESDAY. TIME TO GET TOWNED! Before we get into the A&E of the ILLI AN MO, we need for you to us a favor, we need for you to vote OUTTOWN (maatology.blogspot.com) for Best blog in the RiverFront Times’ best of 2009 Poll. You can go to the poll at http://polls.riverfronttimes.com/polls/stl/bestof2009All ballots must be received by Monday, September 14 and the results will be published in the October 1 issue of the Riverfront Times.

AND NOW TO THE ARTS AND E in THE ILLI AND MO
The big news item is sports related as the St. Louis Cards have an 11 game sweep in its division. St. Louis leads by a comfortable 10 1/2-gamelead (77 games, 55 loses) in 1st place in the Central Division. August was reportedly one of the most successful months in the team’s history and surprisingly did it without much help from its superstar First baseman and now Shaq Vs. reality show star Albert Pujols. Can we say Post-season or dare we say World Series? .

In related Cards newz, its superstar Pujols won the home derby that was aired on Shaquille Oneal’s new reality show “Shaq Vs.” that aired Tuesday. Pujols beat O'Neal 16 home runs to 10. O'Neal was allowed some benefits by using a heavier bat and had fences that were brought in for him to hit homeruns. On the show, former Cards player John Mabry and current player Ryan Ludwick and Pujols son, A.J. coached Oneal on his swings. Pujols and O'Neal also had a meal at Pujols' restaurant, Pujols 5, with some children with Down Syndrome from the Pujols Family Foundation. The filming of the home derby was done at RT Ballpark in Ofallon, Mo earlier last month where a reported 35,000 people witnessed the competition.

The other big news was when STL rap superstar made an instore appearance at Dillards in the galleria last Saturday to sign autographs for hundreds of fans. The event was culminated with the opening of an Applebottoms wing within the store. Applebottoms is the clothing line for women that’s geared for women who are on the curvy and plus size. Also in attendance were St Lunatics members Murphy lee and Kyjuan and STL model Madison Bradley (who will talk about later in this posting). Hot 104.1 promoted the event.

In unrelated Nelly news, it was reported that his year-long sports bar and restaurant Skybox on the Landing has been sold. Nelly co-owned the venue with STL based b-ball stars Larry Hughes and Darius Miles and former Rams player Marshall Faulk. It is alleged that the new venue title is Levee/Skybox Sports Bar. The bar has been closed for some days now and reportedly will be open for the Labor day weekend under the new management and name. We are sure Nelly and his crew are not sweating bullets over the selling cuz according to mediattakeout,.com, Nelly is in the $50 million dollar club and we are sure it will seen as a business loss and tax write off.

For those who cant get to the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre for the big Farm Aid concert Oct 4 with Dave Matthews, Neil Young, Wilco, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Jason Mraz and others can watch it in the comforts of your home as it will be broadcast live on DirecTV and in HD on the 101 Network. The event will start at 4 p.m..

Fallen Missouri State Senator Jeff Smith cancelled his reading of Ovid last Saturday at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts. He was to be one of 70 local personalities who was to read 15 minute segments of the entire 15 book epic last weekend. Mid month. Smith as well as his campaign partner Rep. Steve Brown
resigned and pleaded guilty to federal charges related to an investigation of Smith’s unsuccessful 2004 bid for U.S. Congress.

Country superstar Dolly Parton came through St. Louis but no one knows for what. Last week, the busty singer was reportedly spotted at two Cards games. Before and after the games, she got out of a stretch limo with her crew near the ballpark downtown and took pics with eager fans (and as yawl know she is as sweet as a peach ). Rumor has it that she was in town to perform at her Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show in Branson, Mo.

Retired NBC News journalist Tom Brokaw was in East St. Louis recently on his tour of America. There, he interviewed Mayor Alvin Parks, dignitaries and citizens as he gathers a census of the people's economic, political and cultural perspective during this economic crisis in America during President Obama's first term.

And speaking of retired journalsits, Martin Duggan announced last week that he was retiring from journalism as well as hosting the long running weekly PBS debate show, “Donnybrook.” The near 90 year old personalities last show as the staunch Republican will be Dec. 17. Hmm, wonder who will replace him? In our opinion, it looks like regular panelist KMOX’s Charles Brennan seem like the obvious choice. He is conservative ala Duggan, but we are hoping Ray Harttman, the bleeding liberal of the show, will take over especially that it is Hartmann that made the arguments interesting with Duggan interjecting his conservative spin to topics of discussion.

St. Louis is saved again on national reality show competitions. Last Sunday, STL singer/guitarist Tood Sarvies made it to the next round now advancing in the Top 10 of P Diddy’s Starmaker show on MTV.This week, it was the boys’turn to compete (last week were the girls) and the judges said that Sarvies was the best act of the night. He performed Fall Out Boy’s “I Dont Care.”

The other St. Louisan is fashion designer Qrystal Frazier who made it through another round of competition on Lifetime’s show, “Project runway” last Thursday. The challenge was “Preggo Chic”to create an elegant look for guests judge Rebecca Romijn, who’s preggo with twins. happened to be pregnant with twins. Although a bit high strung on the show, Frazier, who currently lives in NYC, is still in the running for showing her wares during NYC Fashion week. And Kansas city native Ari Fish was eliminated last week.
To peep the show go to

IN THE MIA FILE . What happened to former St. Lunatic member Slodown?

MIA FOUND--Local singer/guitarist BLUE who will perform at Urban Hang Suite at Legacy Books this Friday.

BLIND BITZ. (DOUBLE) Which mover and shaker was seen on a cell phone outside of a popular venue sounding very upset with whomever they were talking to? (This mover and shaker is not male and they are a part of a very “wet” promoting team here in St. Louis. The popular venue is a venue that made local headlines for its “funny moves.” )
AND

Which socialite was so drunk at a venue recently that they continued boasting they were related to a famous person born in St. Louis and had to be called a cab to go home? (Hint. This person is not a female, has done their share of modeling in local fashion shows earlier in this decade and their famous relative is associated with his former pasttime . The venue is a spot that share the same name of the popular street in St. Louis.)

STL-ICIOUS—Whos’ hot this week? Singer/promoter Coco Soul and comedian Arvin Mitchell and promoter Phil Assets (tie)

Coco Soul. This lovely repeated STL-ICIOUS profiler is making waves yet again. Also a repeat STL-ICIOUS selectee, his group Liquid Assets, along with promoters Koncepts) will present a special edition of its popular Red HottThursdays this Thursday with the Interstate Rivalry edition after the Kansas City Chiefs v. Rams game hosted by Rams tight end Randy McMichael. On Saturday, the group will serve double duty with two events. The first is a labor Day weekend party called Ego that they are hosting with MPAC at Lure Nightclub (SEE EVENT BITZ BELOW) and with Precision host the last installment of its Saturday event, SIGNITURE SATURDAYS at Black Label.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ
Why does it seem that the media stopped caring about the after coverage of the two Asian women journalist who were rescued by President BilL Clinton last month? Why are people now wearing small TVs sewn into their clothes? Why is this new texting while driving law in St. Louis only apply to drivers 21 and under? Why did it take 10 seasons for the TV talk show THE VIEW to finally win a Daytime Emmy last Sunday for Best talk Show Host (and none of the hosts showed up!)? Why was Whitney Houston’s long anticipated CD, “I Look to You” could be downloaded for FREE a couple days before its store release? Why does rapper Drake sound like a second at best Kanye? Why do most people stay at home after the National Guard make demands for people to leave their homes during national disaster warnings from fries and hurricanes? Why is this Arizona preacher who wanted Obama dead still standing? Why doe sit seem Jermaine and Latoya Jackson are milking their brother Michael’s death for their benefit ? Why hasn’t STL youngster Christian Ferguson has yet to be found? And why isnt Fox 2 news reporter Rob Desir not on Facebook? LOL

HELP BITZ
St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music. To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising. Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.Currently, Cornelius is building a base of founding members, developing a board of directors, and lining up performances for the 2009-2010 season The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center. The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage. For additional information or to schedule an interview, please contact Sarah Thompson at 314.898.8388 or sarahtproductions@gmail.com.

I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking,” what can I do to make a difference.” As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. “I can start a collection and give back to the community.” So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea.
