OUT 686--STL TIDBITZ & MORE!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS! THIS WEDNESDAY YAWL--TIME TO GET TOWNED!
STL-TIDBITZ-- JUST IN
We got word this week and it has been confirmed that Grammy Award winning neo soul superstar India Arie is coming to St. Louis to perform on Sept 30 at the Pageant in the Delmar Loop. For those who remember, Arie was scheduled to performed in St. Louis this summer with John Legend at the Fox but cancelled due to illness. It was reported that Arie agreed to do the show as a make up for her fans .

AND NOW TO THE A&E in the ILLI and the MO

The big news story this week was bar none the Kanye West/Taylor Swift bruhaha at this year’s MTV Music Awards in New York last Sunday with him going up to the stage during Swift’s win of best female Video, taking the mike from Swift and saying that he was happy for her but he felt that Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” should have won cuz it was the best video of all time. Well it has been pretty much a national boycott ball for the Chi-town rapper since then. It was reported soon after the diss that West was seen drinking heavily at the bar before he got on stage and soon after the chaos, MTV execs escorted him out the door. A few hours later, he administered an apology on his website on the incident after the backlash he got from the MTV crowd as well as Facebook and Twitter networkers.
Then on Tuesday, he was a guest on Jay Lenos’ new talk show giving his sincerest apology (or what his people made him do) and wanted to give it to Swift and his mother (who we hear got on the social networks blasting West) and that he wanted to take some time off from the spotlight.
But the latest now have not been good for West. The President himself Barack Obama, and fellow Chi town residence himself—reportedly said that West was a “jackass” after an interview on CNBC on Tuesday. It was reported that an ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that was an off the record part of the interview and was sent out without white House approval of the interview (talk about Spin Control) and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."
Then mediatakeout.com, reported that West may do harm to himself. According to the individual, who is a fairly close acquaintance of Kanye, since the incident, he has “fallen into a deep depression and people close to him are worrying about it.. In his mindset he could do something crazy.."
The sudden Kanyegate has left those at Livenation to wonder if West is still going to co-headlien with MTv Video winner Lady gaga this fall. According to reports, its up in the air in regards to whether he will tour on the fame Kills Tour cuz a number of tour dates on the Ticketmaster website have since been removed. In St. Louis, it was reported earlier this summer that the duo supposed to hit Scott Trade Center on Dec. 4 and as of this week, the tour date is still pending.
UPDATE: The latest is West did call Swift and apologized. Kanye reportedly phoned Taylor shortly after Swift was on ABC's "The View" talking about the incident. A View rep says Kanye called the studio and spoke with Taylor after the show. Taylor later told ABC News Radio, "Kanye did call me and he was very sincere in his apology and I accepted that apology."

All we gotta say is, West needs help. He seems to have an explosive behavior. He is a talented artist but his onstage antics have seem to have backfired. And for him to do it during the tribute to one of the greatest entertainer for all time, Michael Jackson, put a damper on the evening (And as the black folk of old would say. “He showed his color that night.” ) His tantrums worked before in the past as part of his him being Kanye (especially the George Bush hates black people rant) , but what he did at the MTV Music Awards was straight out FOUL. True, Swift probably shouldn’t have won the award over Beyonce or Gaga, but it was an award show, which in itself is a self aggrandizing affair for the music industry from the start congratulating themselves on their merits. Let’s hope West thinks seriously and hard on what he does in the future and gets some serious help on why he cuts up the way he does.

In other Chi-town news, last week, b-ball legend, six time world champ and Chi-town resident Michael Jordan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The North Carolinian, as you all know became a b-ball god during his stint on the Chicago Bulls from 1984 to 1993, then retiring soon after to play in the Minor Leagues with the Chicago White Sox in 1994, then returning to the Bulls in 1995 to 1998 then retiring again and returning to play with the Washington Wizards—that he became owner of-- from 2001 to 2003 when he finally retired. He's now managing partner of the
Charlotte Bobcats. At the ceremony, Jordan was reportedly overcome with emotion as he cried before beginning his I AM MICHAEL JORDAN acceptance speech, then entertained the crowd with b-ball . NBA players David Robinson and John Stockton were also inducted. The ceremony took place in Springfield, Massachusetts.

In other sports news, the St. Louis Rams had its first season game last Sunday and lost to the Seatlle Seahawks in Seattle at Qwest Field 28 to 0. The Rams was the only team in the NFL to not score last week. This Sunday, they will play the Washington Redskins in D.C. then there first home opener will be Sept 27 against the Green bay packers at Edward Jones Dome. Let’s hope the Rams will get it together this Sunday, so they wont have to come to the Lou with a record of 0-2.
In other rams newz, before the regular season started, the rams cut longtime linebacker Chris Draft. The St. Louis Rams released him after 11 years on the team when he declined to take a pay cut of 300 grand (from his ‘milli salary) in the final year of a three-year contract. Draft reportedly couldn’t comprehend why didn't understand why he was asked to take a pay cut but The Rams reportedly told him that they may re-sign him when his contract for the rest of the year . He reportedly said that he is open to returning to the team. But that may have fallen by the wayside, cuz this week The Rams have added another linebacker that wasn’t Chris Draft, but linebacker Paris Lenon.
Huh, what is really going on here? First they cut draft, then said they will consider resigning him based on the last year on his contract? So, isnt that kind Indian Giveresque?? Cut him with the option to resign him—on one last year on his contract? Why did they even cut him especially with only one year on his contract—and he was a starter! With the signing of Lenon, we think the pay cut money will probably go to Lenon. And them what will happen to his organization, The Chris Draft Family Organization that he started here if he isn’t re-signed? Its mos def about the bottom line in the Rams organization and not about loyalty. .

Getting back to Chi-town newz, its First lady of talk, Oprah Winfrey kicked off her 24th Season with the mush publicized two day interview with redemptive singer Whitney Houston. On the interview, she talked drugs, Bobby Brown, being abused, and her mother, Cissy’s intervention. She also performed songs from her #1 comeback CD, “I Look to You.”

In other Chitown newz, Irish international superstar band U2 kicked off its tour last week in Chicago.

Well, St. Louis native designer Qristyl Frazier was the one to go OUT on the reality competition show, “Project runway,” last Thursday. After four rounds, she was eliminated in Week 5. Designers were given a budget of $100 to shop at Mood, and a day to complete the look. The winning designer would have immunity for the next challenge. Last Saturday, YOURS TRULY, did two back to back auditions. The first was at bakers in West County Center for Alive Magazine’s Fall fashion Week. I get there about 1 p.m. , it took place on the first floor in the outer area of the center of the mall. It was a casting call for models or wanna be models. I stood in line, signed an application and walked to a fashion shoot in the front of a white background with a photographer. I took various poses and that was it. It was of course many egos and female models with the IM IT look. But YOURS TRULY, just took it all in stride. I saw Alive Magazine staff there including its editor Attilio D'Agostino and diva designers from the area. The experience lasted for about 10 minutes. Then I rushed back on the highway to South St. Louis for the second audition at the Comedy Improv on Cherokee Street at the Incubator area. I beat the auditioners there when I got there at about 2;30 p.m. So when the casting directors (two) and director (a Mizzou alum) set up in the basement, I signed up for attendance and gave them my photo and resume and read over script for a corporate video from the narrator to the crazy characterizations of the characters. It took about 30 minutes for that one. Of the two, I only got ino on the second one that they will be choosing this week. So, YOURS TRULY will keep you posted on both in future postings.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ: AT THE MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS.
Besides the Kanye fiasco here are some other Why’s. Why was Lady gaga the only interesting thing goin at the award shows with her outlandish costumes? Why did Pink and Shakira’s people have the singers wearin the same dress arriving at the awards? Why did someone leak a fake winners list prior to the award show? Why was J Lo looking jittery when she was interviewed? Why did Beyonce’s bodyguard get in front of her when she was getting interviewed almost causing an oops moment bumpin into her? Why was ”comedian” (and we put that in quotes) Russell Brand hosting? Why did Katy Perry follow the MJ tribute? And why did the camera stay on her and her boyfriend in the audience? Why was Beyonce limping backstage after her Single Ladies performance(Online folk checking out the behind the scenes saw it) ? Why was Pink’s trapeze act during her performance the best ever ? Why didn’t Taylor swift thank Beyonce for letting her have her moment to do her speech? and Why did Lil mama bum rush Jay Z and Alicia’s Keys performance?

HELP BITZ
St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society – a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, recognize, and promote the R&B heritage of the St. Louis region. Founded by local businessman, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader Reginald D. Dickson(and the owner of the favorite pre-theater dining restaurant, Reggie’s Backstage, located directly across the street from the Fox Theatre in Grand Center.), the Society’s vision is to be St. Louis’ preeminent organization for R&B performances, education, and preservation activities. It also aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of the major role played by St. Louis in the advancement of R&B music.
To fulfill its vision, the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish a performance venue for local and nationally-recognized R&B artists. It will also develop programs to educate individuals – young and old – about R&B. The Society also has future plans to develop a museum to archive and document the history of R&B and its existence in St. Louis, which was a locus for the musical form throughout the mid 1900s. At the helm of the Society is executive director Cornelius Washington, who holds 20 years experience working with non-profit organizations in the Midwest in program management and fund raising.
Cornelius holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and for several years was a high school band director in Mississippi and Georgia. An accomplished musician, he has performed with regional and national recording artists and with local concert bands.Currently, Cornelius is building a base of founding members, developing a board of directors, and lining up performances for the 2009-2010 season The St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society will establish its performance venue inside the current space of Reggie’s Backstage at 522 North Grand Boulevard in Grand Center.
The finished product will be a space that operates both as a performance venue for the St. Louis Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society as well as a fully functional restaurant. The Society, as a non-profit organization with its own board of directors, will operate independent of Reggie’s Backstage. For additional information or to schedule an interview, please contact Sarah Thompson at 314.898.8388 or sarahtproductions@gmail.com.

I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking,” what can I do to make a difference.” As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. “I can start a collection and give back to the community.” So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea.
