THE BIG A&E NEWZ STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Last Sunday, President Barack Obama’s interview on 60 Minutes was aired on CBNS. On the full hour episode, President Obama told co-host Steve Kroft that he's like the captain of a ship on rough seas. At some point in this voyage, the president tells Steve, "Folks are gonna say . . . 'a good captain would have had us in some smooth waters and sunny skies, at this point.' [But] I don't control the weather. What I can control are the policies we're putting in place to make a difference in people's lives."

The interview took place in the Cabinet Room of the White House and on the road in Osawatomie, Kansas, as the president begins his quest for re-election. The 60 Minutes piece, "President Obama," was produced by Frank Devine and Michael Radutzky.

In unrelated Obama newz, according to a USA Today report, The Obamas was on hand for Sunday night's 30th anniversary of Christmas in Washington. The holiday concert special will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Friday on TNT.

Conan O'Brien was on hand to host the event at the National Building Museum.

"It's especially exciting to be here during this joyous season, when we celebrate the arrival of a miracle child, worshiped by millions around the world. Of course I'm talking about Justin Bieber," O'Brien said. "My 8-year-old daughter loves him. Or at least that's what I tell people when they ask why I'm carrying a lock of his hair in my pocket."

The late-night talk-show host pointed out that he was pleased to be at an event that supports such a good cause, the Children's National Medical Center.

"The last event I hosted was Kim Kardashian's bridal shower," O'Brien quipped. "I had a bad feeling about that one."

Bieber, Cee Lo Green, Chitown native Jennifer Hudson, the Band Perry and Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice took turns singing holiday classics and new favorites. Before Bieber took to the stage, Green kicked off the evening's performances with his renditions of This Christmas and Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.

Singing I'll Be Home for Christmas, the Band Perry was accompanied by the men of the United States Naval Academy Glee Club. Justice sang Winter Wonderland and Let It Snow.

Finally it was Hudson's turn.

The singer belted out Do You Hear What I Hear— she says her favorite is Whitney Houston's version — with the help of the American Family Choir. "I don't know how many times I've sang for the president, but every time feels like the first time. "

The talent gathered onstage for the closing medley, which included Mary Did You Know (the Band Perry), Away in a Manger (Bieber), It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (Justice), Silent Night (Green) and O Holy Night (Hudson).

President Obama expressed his gratitude for the evening, offering a special thanks to O'Brien, "host of the best late-night show on TBS."

Obama called this the "season to celebrate miracles." He emphasized "service to others, compassion to all, treating others as we wish to be treated."

To end the evening, the first family gathered with the performers to sing Hark! the Herald Angels Sing.

From a report from AP, New Los Angeles Angels' Albert Pujols (PICTURED with new signee pitcher CL Wilson) put on his new jersey as his wife Deidre and his son Alberto Pujols, Jr. looked on during a baseball news conference in Anaheim, Calif., Saturday, where Pujols and the Angels agreed to a landmark 10-year, $254 million deal. (AP Photo/Alex Gallardo)

Pujols reportedly made their first public appearances with the Angels Saturday at a raucous pep rally outside Angel Stadium. He and Wilson signed deals for a combined $331.5 million. Pujols pulled on his new white No. 5 jersey to adoring chants of "We got Albert!"

"It was really emotional," Pujols said of his decision-making process, which moved quickly over 36 hours earlier last week. "But when you feel there's somebody out there that wants you really bad and was doing everything he could to bring you to the ballclub, it's pretty special."

That somebody would be Arte Moreno, the Angels owner who landed the biggest free agent on the market with the second-biggest contract in baseball history, surpassed only by Alex Rodriguez's reworked deal with the Yankees. Moreno's offer of $254 million over 10 years was enough to persuade a three-time MVP who had spent his entire 11-year career in St. Louis to leave the Cardinals shortly after winning his second World Series title.

Moreno didn't win Pujols' services just with that jaw-dropping contract, both men claimed. Pujols had a near-sleepless night while he pondered leaving the Cardinals during his lightning courtship.

"I know people in the city of St. Louis think it's all about money," Pujols said. "I have all the offers out there where people are throwing me a bunch of money, and they're calling me (a) liar, and that's all good. … It was tough, and I know what they're going through. They're losing somebody that's been a part of the community, and I feel for that. Me and my wife, we felt that pain, too. But at the same time, when that decision came, I was being obedient. I didn't want to go to a place that God wasn't calling me to go."

Moreno swayed Pujols and his wife, Deidre, during a lengthy phone conversation in which the outdoor advertising mogul emphasized the Angels' commitment to charity work, the Orange County lifestyle, and a family atmosphere that will embrace Pujols long after he retires — along with the Angels' elite pitching staff and solid roster run by veteran manager Mike Scioscia. Pujols' deal also includes a no-trade clause and a personal services deal that could keep him bound to the Angels for life.

Pujols and his wife were reportedly impressed by Moreno's frankness and friendliness, with Pujols saying he felt he knew Moreno well after just five minutes of conversation.

"It was hard for me, too," Pujols said. "It's been hard for almost a year. Obviously you don't want to blame anything, because I'm a guy that doesn't look for blame, but my first two months of the season, it was hard. It was emotional. You're going to have some family and friends that agree with you, and some that don't like it. I want the fans to know I love them, I respect how they treated my family, and I thank them for making me the man I am today. If it wasn't for that city, I wouldn't be here today."

The Angels reportedly started to think they might land Pujols last Wednesday night, moments before the door closed on the manager's flight home from the winter meetings. Pujols made up his mind last Thursday morning, informing his agent, Dan Lozano, he would leave St. Louis.

Pujols' decision electrified fans who descended on Angel Stadium to welcome the new players — and to buy No. 5 and No. 33 jerseys and T-shirts from the fully stocked team store.

Former Chicgao talk show maven and current network mogul Oprah Winfrey has toured an encampment for Haitians displaced by a massive earthquake recently. The US talk show queen, escorted by security guards, walked among the tents with actor Sean Penn, who helped create an aid group that provides support to people who live in the encampment.

"This is part of (her TV show) Next Chapter, going around the world to see interesting and fascinating cases of profound examples of what can be done to make a difference in the world," Oprah told reporters at the encampment.

She said Penn's efforts will be featured in an upcoming program on her Oprah Winfrey Network.

Is it us, or does Oprah look like her character Sophia from “The Color Purple.” LOL

In related newz, Oprah’s network, OWN, despite its heavily marketed start is struggling, according to Hollywood Reporter. Because of the dismal ratings, executives are thinking about catering to African American audiences. While ‘The Rosie Show,’ and ‘Oprah’s Lifeclass’ has helped the network, the program ‘Welcome to Sweetie Pies’ (PICTURED)has been the standout for the network and is popular among African Americans, giving executives a good reason to tweak their demographic.

OWN president Erik Logan clarifies that the network will not abandon its original premise, but rather become more inclusive. Oprah has built her brand and enjoyed success from a wide audience and the network heads are very aware of that.

Here is an excerpt from the Hollywood Reporter story:

Since Welcome to Sweetie Pies premiered, OWN has enjoyed an average prime-time viewership of around 216,000 people.Sweetie Pies has seen an average audience of around 418,000, making it the highest rated show on the network by far in that period.

Hmm, "tweak" is a nice way of saying OWN is about to become black. LOL

Chicago native singers and Grammy Award winners Chaka Khan and Jennifer Hudson heads up a lineup of female singers performing on VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul. Others include Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Ledisi, Boyz II Men, Marsha Ambrosius, Erykah Badu and Florence & The Machine. The Roots will serve as the house band for the event, which airs Monday December 19th at on VH1.

Chicago bred rapper and 2012 Grammy led nominee Kanye West was one of several artists who teamed up for the endorsement video for the site Megaupload.com. A 4-minute clip features a slew of familiar faces singing the praises of the popular website, used for sharing music and video files, in the "Megaupload Mega Song."

It consents celebrities to go viral, but Torrent Freak reports that it is in defense of the beloved file sharing site (based in Hong Kong), which has been under fire in the U.S. lately from anti-Piracy groups such as Creative America, a pact of studios, networks, etc., and RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) who have accused the site and its founder Kim Schmitz of promoting illegal piracy of copy written music and other entertainment material. Other artists included are Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Chris Brown, Will.i.am Alicia Keys, and Mary J Blige.

Chicago native and 2012 Grammy Award nominated singer R. Kelly has placed his Chicago, Illinois home on the market after he was threatened with foreclosure. The singer faced losing the property in June after defaulting on his mortgage with JPMorgan Chase Bank. But Kelly has now decided to sell off the gated property and has placed it on the market for just under $1.6 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. The house is just one financial problem facing the singer-earlier this year (11), he was hit with a tax lien for $837,000.

Chicago native and Oscar nominated actor Terrence Howard's estranged wife, Michelle, got a restraining order recently against the actor claiming Howard constantly beats her and threatens to kill her ... but Terrence says it's all a big, fat lie.

Michelle Howard filed court documents, obtained by TMZ, claiming Terrence began beating her up just 7 days after they were married in January 2010.

In the docs, Michelle claims Howard "slugged me across my face and neck" ... and threatened to throw her off a balcony.

Michelle claims the violence continued throughout their marriage -- with Terrence allegedly committing several violent acts, such as

-- smacking her in the face and chipping her tooth with his wedding ring

-- throwing her down to the ground in a parking lot

-- telling her, "I'll hit a woman quicker than I'd hit a man"

-- Saying, "If you tell anyone about my personal business, I will kill you and no one will ever know

-- Screaming, "B*tch, walk home. That's my car, I pay for it."

The actor also filed legal papers, adamantly denying that he EVER threatened Michelle -- but claiming she has been threatening to "release private materials to 3rd parties for her own personal financial gain" unless he paid her money.

Sources connected to the case tell TMZ ... the material in question includes a video of Howard singing naked in the shower.

This morning, an L.A. County Superior Court judge granted Michelle a temporary restraining order preventing Howard from going near her or contacting her until their next court hearing.

Michelle filed for divorce back in February.

This is ugly. Now it has been reported that Howard does have anger problems and has been known to smack up women, but it seems as though there some other issue she’s dealing with unbeknownst to the public. But as its been said, “theres always two sides to a story.”

THE BIG STL NEWS STORY IS:

The ongoing backlash from St Louis Cardinals fans of baseball superstar Albert Pujols signing to the California Angels. According to a report by Joe Strauss of stltoday.com , On Monday, Pujols wife, Diedre (PICTURED) did a lengthy morning interview with local Christian radio station KLJY (99.1 FM), Deidre Pujols described the Cardinals' initial five-year, $130 million offer as an "insult" and inconsistent with the club's oft-stated desire to keep her husband as "a Cardinal for life." She also said she believes the city has "absolutely been deceived" by media reports regarding the Cardinals' level of commitment.

Monday night, a source with the Cardinals maintained that the team did guarantee a 10-year contract for Pujols. That definition also could include a player-controlled option or series of options.

Pujols agreed to terms Thursday with the Los Angeles Angels on a 10-year, $254 million contract and appeared Saturday at a news conference in Anaheim, Calif., to announce the signing.

Pujols suggested that a number of people have used the Bible to criticize their decision.

"The devil has overplayed his hand because I have Christian folk trying to throw the Word in my face," she said.

The couple acknowledged Saturday afternoon that local support for their St. Louis-based Pujols Family Foundation has already eroded. Deidre Pujols said she has "never seen hatred spread so fast, and I understand why. Let me say that Albert and I never, not one time, intended to leave the city."

Neither Albert nor Deidre Pujols took exception to descriptions of the Cardinals' offer during a series of interviews following Saturday's news conference.

Deidre Pujols suggested to the radio station that misperceptions about the Cardinals' offer probably have fed the backlash.

She insisted that at no time did the Cardinals make a 10-year guarantee but did not elaborate on what the club did offer beyond the introductory five-year framework.

"It just didn't work out," she said. "The offers that people have seen on television, I'm going to tell you what, had that offer been the one that was given us, with guarantees, we would (be back with) the birds on the bat."

Club officials declined to directly address the assertion that the offer was not guaranteed.

The couple later gave an extended interview to KSDK (Channel 5) and reiterated many of the same comments made during and after Saturday's introductory news conference at Angels Stadium.

The Angels' overwhelming bid does not incorporate deferred money, according to sources familiar with the terms. The Cardinals' 10-year proposal deferred $30 million without interest.

"I'm sorry it had to come down to this," Albert Pujols told KSDK sports director Rene Knott on Monday.

Referring to the Angels' bid during an interview with KMOX radio Monday night, DeWitt said, "There was no way we could approach that."

The club's position disappointed the player, who insisted Monday he had no expectation of leaving the organization and the city even after talks broke off in February.

The bottom line is this: If someone offered you more than what you bargained for, wouldn’t you take the bait? Of course you would. But that’s the problem from the start—The St Louis Cardinals didn’t bait him when they had the chance in February to sign him again so Pujols did what any St Louis sports person does and has done—they move on. The question WORDZ TO THE WHYZ is "Why didnt the Cards sign him in February?" Is Pujols the blame? Of course not. The this age of sports, its all about the money and how much one can get and that what Pujols did—he played the game and the cards eventually lost. And what happens? Pujols is the blame, blaming the victim. Now he’s seen as an STL pariah when all he was doing was playing the same game the owners were.

In related Pujols newz, his newly erected statue in front of his restaurant Pujols 5 in Westport Plaza has been given security for ears if vandalism since Pujols announcement of moving on to the Angels. Whelan security guards from West Port Plaza were reportedly stationed at the Albert Pujols statue outside the Pujols 5 Westport Grill beginning about 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, , after news began to spread about Pujols' decision to sign with the Anaheim Angels.

Controversial talk show host JC Cochran returned from his two week suspension Monday with an abbreviataed version of his radio show on KTRS AM with co-host Trish Gregory. On the show, he explained what occurred with the Twitter war he had with St Louis Cardinals fans in regards to his predication, from inside sources, that slugger Albert Pujols was going to sign back with the Cardinals which yielded to his two week suspension in late November. He said on Monday that his prediction was correct until that Thursday morning when the Loa Angeles Angels gave him the $250million,10year contract with no conditions. Pujols was set to sign back with the Cards on that Wednesday but they only offered him a 5 year contract. So he summed it up by saying that he and his sources were right up until that Thursday but the media were not going to consider that and just conclude that he was wrong altogether just cause.
