OUT 875--ILLI MO (A&E)BITZ

HEY OUTTOWNERS!

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

THE BIG STORY THIS WEEK IS: Former Illinois Governor and reality show star Rod Blagojevich is currently on a media tour after his with a conviction last week on one of the 24 counts of his charges (which was lying to the FBI) and deadlocked on the other 23 counts and a retrial looming over his perfectly coiffed mane.
.

His recent media blitz meeting was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart where he somewhat the question. Will he or won’t he testify if retried?
Blagojevich basically dodged the question, saying only that he’d have a chance to do testify in a retrial.
Stewart made a promise if Blagojevich beats the other 23 counts: “If you get off scot-free, there’s a hug waiting for you.”

Blagojevich did not testify during his lengthy trial this summer despite promises that he would take the stand. Stewart reminded him of his promises and told him to make good on them, the AP
reports.
Blagojevich told Stewart that nine of the 12 witnesses who testified for the federal government had either admitted committing crimes or had been found guilty and were vulnerable to prosecution threats to lengthen their possible sentences.
"They charged me with political horse trading," Blagojevich said of the prosecutors. "They ought to charge themselves with crimes and throw another count of hypocrisy in there."

“The judge in the case, James Zagel, set Aug 26, today set a hearing for Aug. 26 to decide manner and timing of the retrial.
From the talk, a retrial may not start until next year.
Also, the defense team has drained a $2.8 million campaign fund, leading Blagojevich to possibly turn to public funds. and if the public treasury is tapped then the judge is bound by rules that allow for two lawyers at max.
Blago had seven.
.The two lawyers are also not likely to be Sam Adam Jr. and Sam Adam Sr., who sources say intend on filing a request to leave the case. In a private conference last week, Zagel reportedly told lawyers a quick retrial on the corruption charges wasn't likely because of the logistics of getting a new jury pool.

Last week Blagojevich, also appeared on NBC’s “Today Show." And had his own booth at the Chicago Comic Con convention in Rosemont, Ill., where he posed with superheroes and charged for autographs and photos for 50-dollars a pop.
Blago said he was sure that he would vow to make a political comeback if he is cleared in the new trial. As of today, from the jury’s decision, he would face only 5 years for lying to the FBI

So people get ready for the Blago Reality Show.

UPDATE:The judge decided to have the retrial on Jan. 4, 2011. His brother, Robert,'s charges were dropped. The elder brother of the ousted governor had been charged with four counts of attempted extortion and bribery conspiracy in connection with the case against his brother.

St. Louis native fashion mogul and reality TV star Kimora Lee Simmons is quitting her gig as creative director of design lines Baby Phat and Phat Farm which was set up by her ex-husband Russell Simmons. Her departure will be Sept. 1
The supermodel-turned-fashion designer told E! Online that she felt that the time had come to move on. She stayed on as creative director after the company, Phat Farm Fashions-- which was sold to Kellwood in 2004 as part of a massive $140-million deal and was promoted to President and Creative Director of Phat Farm fashions which included her line, Baby Phat.
But she has now quit to pursue other fashion projects.
Lee says in a statement, "It's time for me to move on and further expand my other businesses and create a new phenomenon. I adore all those who have faithfully been with me since the beginning. I'm forever dedicated to my family, fans, and customers."
But a look at
Simmons' Twitter feed suggests that she wasn't exactly gung-ho about leaving baby Phat, telling fans that parent company Kellwood "took over" and forced her out.She also tweeted that her children, who modeled for the label, are also "out with Mommy."
The diva also hinted that fans should no longer support
Baby Phat, saying, "As Ludacris would say: When I move, you move."
Though Simmons is no longer with
the label, she will continue to work on her KLS and Fabulosity brands, as well as her trendy Kouture by Kimora collection for Macy's.
In unrelated newz, her reality show Life in the Fab Line will be back this September on Style Network for a Fourth season.

So the question is did she quit or was she fired? Hmm, at any rate we are sure Simmons is not hurting and that she was paid a big phat penny for her departure and she will continue to be her fabulous self.

In more unrelated newz, Kimora and her ex Russell had a yard sale recently at their former mansion in New Jersey. The exclusive, lavish open-to-the-public tag sale boasted heavyweight designer furniture, rugs, end tables, and art pieces going for $10,000 and up. The former power couple divorced in 2009 and she is currently married to .Oscar nominated actor/model Djimon Hounsou and has a year old son, Kenzo with him..

UPDATE: The NY Post reported that Simmons was fired by higher-ups as cost-cutting measure. One anonymous insider quipped, "Kimora was going over-budget. She'd pay herself a fee to be in the ads, plus she paid her children fees to appear in ads. It costs thousands of dollars to airbrush her because she's a size 10. Plus they spent a ton of money on body doubles. They would shoot another model in the clothes, and take Kimora's head and put it on her body."Kimora somewhat addressed the rumors on Twitter tweeting, "No 1 frm my camp said tht I assure u! ya'll knw I been goin thru sum things! Damn, since when is it an issue to be a size 10? Here they go with that ish!"

The Big newz in the STL is The Rams will soon have a new owner, Columbia, Mo native and sports mogul Stan Kroenke, who already owns 40 percent of the team since its move to St. Louis in 1999. The NFL owners approved Wednesday for him to own the other 60 percent which was up for sale by Chip Rosenbloom and sister Lucia Rodriguez in 2009, heirs to late owner Georgia Frontiere in 2008 after she died.

The vote was held in the ATL Wednesday the 32 NFL club owners to approve Kroenke the vote was unanimous.
"Fifteen years ago, my family entered a partnership with Stan Kroenke and it has been a wonderful relationship," said former majority owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a statement. "Although today is an emotional day and the end of an era for our family, it is also the beginning of a new chapter in the rich history of the St. Louis Rams.

The price that Kroenke paid for the 60 percentage of the ballclubs $750 million value (which is about $450 million) , according to the Associated Press (UPDATE: Actually Kroenke only got an extra 30 percent of that 60 percent and Rosenbloom and his sister Lucia Rodriguez are now minority owners with 30 percent). The deal would be reportedly pro forma (meaning a formality) except for one matter: Kroenke also owns the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, the NBA's Denver Nuggets and other sports properties.
In order to appease the NFL owners, Kroenke had to abide by the NFL ownership rules prohibiting cross-ownership of sports franchises (Earlier this year Kroenke wanted to make his wife, who is a Walmart heiress, the beneficiary of the 60 percent in order to not violate the sport ownership rules but that did not fly) Kroenke's will transfer ownership in the Nuggets and Avalanche to his son, Josh Kroenke.

"My family looks forward to owning the Rams, Nuggets and Avalanche for years to come while being compliant with all stipulations set by the NFL. Our family remains committed to fans in St. Louis and Denver," Kroenke said in a statement in June.

It's not immediately known how he will spread team control among family members.
The league reportedly wants assurances from Kroenke "that he will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of the Nuggets and Avalanche even if family members are running those teams," the Post-Dispatch said. .

Kroenke also owns 29.9 percent of English Premier League soccer club Arsenal, as well as Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids. He also owns a lacrosse team, the Denver venue that is home for the Avalanche, Nuggets and other sports properties.

Kroenke's stake in the team gives him the right of first refusal if the majority ownership family sells (meaning, he can refuse whatever money is given to him by the current owners which are the Fronteire children) . Earlier this year, Kroenke trumped a bid by Urbana, Ill., businessman Shahid Khan to purchase the 60 percent share of the Rams, the Associated Press reports.

But the big question is, now thatKroenke is majority owner, will be make big changes while he’s in control? The charter now stands where the Rams must stay in St. Louis at least until 2015. That is the year when the lease to the Edwards Jones Dome , where they play its home games expires. The owner of the venue is the St. Louis Regional Sports Authority which is comprised of a board which reps the State and the city . So, will Kroenke keep the Rams in St. Louis? Or will the city try to woo him to stay by giving him the option to build another stadium (which means city money paying for it)? Only time will tell.

David said he did not know the name of the woman who was with Shaq, nor of any of the others in the new Boston Celtics center's entourage.

David said Shaq and the group came in for dessert and to use the hookah pipes. He said they didn't know the Sahara served food and told him they had eaten before coming to the restaurant and lounge.
"He had a lot of fun," David said. "He was clapping and laughing. He didn't dance but the other people in his group did."
David said the group stayed until about 2:30 that particular morning and that he was so excited to have a celebrity in the club that he didn't even charge them. David has owned the Saharah for about seven months.

He added that the restaurant's cook, Majda Jaouni, and a friend, Tom Ramaha, stayed late to help serve Shaq and his friends. The Davids are partners in the restaurant with Maurice and Luna Alyatim.

Shaq was in town to participate in the 8th annual Pujols Family Foundation golf tournament. Albert and Dee Dee Pujols organize the golf tournament as a fundraiser for their foundation, which helps people with Down syndrome in the St. Louis area and people living in poverty in Pujols' native Dominican Republic.

In other sports newz, Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford could be in the starting lineup a few weeks ahead of schedule. First string QB A.J. Feeley experienced swelling in his right thumb last Sunday, casting doubt on his ability to play in this Thursday's preseason game at New England.

Hmm. That’s all Freeley needs. First Bradford comes in a rookie taking over, now he has to go back to his usual position as a second banana.

UPDATE:
Bradford made his first start in three exhibitions, Thursday, in a 36-35 win overthe Patriots atteh EdwardJones Dome. He replaced A.J. Feeley in that role. Feeley missed the game with a sprained thumb.Based on the way Bradford played, he might stay in the starting lineup for a while, SN correspondent Jim Thomas reports. Bradford drove the Rams to a touchdown on their opening drive and threw two touchdown passes to rookie tight end Michael Hoomanawanui. He completed his first six passes, finished 15-of-22 for 189 yards and was sacked once. He rarely got flustered and quickly located open receivers.

Coach Steve Spag said we wasnt yet ready to make him a starter.

Huh?After the money he got paid--we are sure the Rams want Bradford playing every second he can as well as waterboy.LOL
ADDED:But bad newz occurred during the Patriots game when St. Louis Rams receiver Donnie Avery, the team’s leading receiver from a year ago injured his left knee with less than two minutes to go in the first half of Thursday night’s game when he landed wrong after going up for a pass from Sam Bradford. Rams’ head coach Steve Spagnuolo didn’t have a good outlook after the game. Weekend tests will determine its severity.

St. Louis Cardinals TV broadcaster Dan McLaughlin is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated following his arrest last Monday. McLaughlin was pulled over Monday night on Interstate 64 in Chesterfield after an officer responded to a report of an erratic driver, according to various media reports in St. Louis. Police say McLaughlin refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was taken to Chesterfield police headquarters, charged, and released. McLaughlin declined comment, citing advice of legal counsel. He is the primary play-by-play announcer for Cardinals games on Fox Sports Midwest, and also for St. Louis Blues hockey broadcasts.McLaughlin returned Monday when the Cardinals opened a three-game series in Pittsburgh.

Former Mizzou player wide receiver Rams Denario Alexander was signed to the Rams this week. He ended up signing a two-year deal.

Vateran manager Lou Piniella of the Chicago Cubs retried after Sunday's loss to the Braves because of family reasons. Piniella announced his departure to the team before the game. Piniella said last month he planned to retire at the end of the season. But he missed four games in August to be with his ailing mother at their home in Tampa, Fla. Mike Quade has been named interim manager for the rest of the season. Hendry said Quade will be a candidate for the managerial opening in 2011.

St. Louis Cards star Albert Pujols is closing in on 400 home runs. He is one home run shy of the record . He homered Monday at PNC Statdium playing the Pirates. The 399th homer and National League-leading 33rd of the season, tied him with Al Kaline and Andres Galarraga for 47th place on the all-time list.. Only Stan Musial has more as a Cardinal.

Hmm, we sensed frenzy and mark McGwire type newsmaking whenPujols does hits the 400th homer whether in Pittsburgh or at home, but whoever catches it we are sure has to be escorted out by security for the abll will be valuable for the auction geeks.
UPDATE: Pujols hit his 400th career in a game against the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

Pujols became the 47th player in MLB history to do so and the third youngest player to reach the mark, behind Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey, Jr.But the feat was clouded by the Cards'performance and his an injury threat. Pujols hit the long ball in the 4th inning of a game that the Cards lost to the Nationals 11-10 in 13 innings. In the 11th inning, Pujols had a frightening moment when he tried to jump up on a tarp to catch a ball and twisted his ankle. After trainers checked out the injury, Pujols remained in the game.

We are sure when Pujols comes to Busch Stadium he will receive his accolades for such a feat.

There’s no place like home—literally. The upscale Home Nightclub that was housed inside the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles closed its doors unexpectedly last Saturday nite right after a performance from pop singer Travie McCoy.

According to a press statement, the venue wasn't able to continually turn a profit, despite meeting Ameristar's standards of quality and excellence.

The club knew they were closing, it just wasn’t pubbed to the public. The club, which opened in late 2007 from seven days a week to the weekend, is now evicted and its employees reportdly are going to receive jobs elsewere at Ameristar.

It was reported that the space will be used for private and special events.

From the comments from social networks, most people agree that Home had its problems since day one. First, from reports, the club was built on $15 million, an astronomical figure and the owners spent its inception trying to trun a profit from the investment—seven days a week, 20 dollar entrance fee and a strict strict dress policy. Not to mention the attendance fees of its big names who came through such as Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashion and Amber Rose to name a few. Second, the club banked on Friday and Saturday nites to reel in the hip-hop crowd and lowering the price from 20 to 10 bucks under new management. But the acts of violence from the clientele had many gamblers complaining and leaving the club to ownder if they made a mistake by making Home an urban club. We think that Home tried to be grand in a town that is not used to the grandeur. Plus, treating the clientele like doo-doo as far as having countless secuity men in black watch over clubbers like hawks and grandfathering people even before they walk through the turnstiles did not help its image either. So, in the end, Home ends up vacant.
++++++++++++++++++++
In realted newz, from a reliable source we found out that the Home employees' cell phones were shut off as soon as the doors shut. Hmm, so whats up with the placing of employees in new jobs at Ameristar? Why would their phones have to be shut off if they are promised new jobs there?

Speaking of the ending of clubs, looks like the owners of Lure Nightclub will have its liquor license hearing Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 208 at STL City hall on August 27th. But it could be possible that Lure may be able to keep its license if the hearing board is in favor of it after Partners, the committee against Lure, were shut down with a temporary injunction recently who tried to close the club with a petition before its hearing. \\
So do yawl think its closing? We think so.

ADDED: There also will be a decision made Friday in Jeff City on whether Missouri strip clubs have to abide by a law signed by Governor Jay Nixon that clubs must stop serving alcohol, stop teh nudity and lap dances and those clubs in existence must abide by the new law in 90 days. . A lawyer for the defendants of the club owners is hoping for a temporary injunction against the law which goes into effect Saturday. The group is seeking to overturn the laws, arguing that they violate the U.S. Constitution and that the process by which lawmakers passed them violated the state constitution.

The controversial Branson concert with St. Louis rap mogul Nelly performed at last Saturday went on with no problems at the city’s Mansion Theatre. Despite a change of venue and some public opposition, the Nelly concert did go on Saturday night in Branson, it just didn't make any money.
Concert promoter Paul Dunn says about 2,800 fans saw the concert, about 200 seats shy of a sell-out. He said that the change in venue affected ticket sales. The concert was originally supposed to take place at the Grand Palace, but city leaders rejected a planned outdoor concert because of noise and parking concerns. Dunn says he would like to bring more main-stream acts like Nelly to the Branson area, but says he'll wait until construction is finished on the Grand Palace before booking any more events.

Those who attended the Trey Songz/Monica concert at the Fox last Friday probably thought it was the best thing they’ve ever seen. coming from the female tweens and teenage dreamers who came to see Songz sing about sex. Overall, the show, from a grown persons point of view was a bit of a snoozer.
According to Kevin Johnson of the Post, “ But his headlining gig at the Fox Theatre mostly fell to pieces Friday as Songz keyed us in on the fact that sex done wrong isn't all it's cracked up to be. There's only so much pillow talking, self-caressing, audience fondling and sex-simulating, the latter in an extreme form, that an audience can be expected to take. That opening song, "I Invented Sex," sent a female fan in a frenzy so strong she leapt on stage, only for security to roughly yank her down and carry her out.”
From St. Louis America's Kenya Vaughn's report, "it's a reason why Trey Songz is third to Chris Brown and Usher (paraphrase)"

Monica, the co headliner, was reportedly the winner of the two singers as far as performances. Through several dress changes, she reportedly thanked the crowd during her 40 plus minute set for 16 years in the game right off the bat before taking the crowd through a tour of her song repertoire. A highlight was when Monica honored her mentor, Whitney Houston, first when she sang her current hit "Love All Over Me" dipped into Houston’s "You Give Good Love," then followed by Houston's "I Have Nothing."
One of her background singers was Joliet, Ill.native/Sunday Best and American Idol contestant Jermaine Sellers.

New singer Dondria opened the concert.

FIRST UP is

Lastly, on a sad note, St. Louis native and Denver resident movie reviewer
Reggie McDaniel died last Friday from pulmonary thrombosis after moving into a hospice in the Denver area two weeks ago. He was a staple in the Denver community with his Ebonically drenched commentary on film reviews that could be heard locally on KTRS-550 AM during the Frank O. Pinion Show (He last called in on the show last Wednesday). His trademark was reviewing movies with “Aiight Dens” instead of stars(eg. I give it three aiight dens. LOL) and the station would play the number of “aiight Dens” from his recorded voice from a conversation he had with teh station a few years back. In the Denver area, he did restaurant and celebrity interviews on 850 KOA Radio for 10 years that ended in 2008. A flair for flamboyantly colored suits, McDaniel also appeared weekly on Denver’s KWGN-TV's morning show to review the latest film releases. Funeral services will be held at My Father's House in Aurora on Saturday, Aug. 28.

IN THE MIA FILE—Where is socialite/massage therapist Kamren Holbert?

BLIND BITZ. Which STL dee-jay was spotted buying an orange extension cord at Schnucks on Dorsett recently? (Hint. The first initials of this deejay’s first and last name are the same consonant. As a matter of fact, the second initials have a different letter but are the same. )

PRO-MO-CIAL-I-CIOUS. Which STL promoters and socialites are getting it in this week? Promoter Leata Price Land and singer Coco Soul (TIE) and Jacque Land and actor/director Joel P.E. King (TIE)

Coco Soul (FAR LEFT) . This lovely singer just won the Battle of the Crowns competition last Saturday at Exo (SEE BITZ ABOVE) giving a opening spot at Thursday’s Budweiser Superfest at Verizon Ampitheater (See EVENTZ BELOW). Also this week she performed at the B Side event at Lola’s Wednesday and on Friday nite, the nite after the Superfest, she will perform at a private affair with her band Soul Alliance at the Aqua Bar at Lumiere Place.

Leata Price Land (LEFT) This veteran promoter is one-half of the venerable promotions group Platinum Group that are the promoters for the 18th Annual Missouri Black Expo produced by Tom Bailey. It will take place at the America’s Center in downtown St Louis Aug 27-29. Some of the notable events include The Kickoff Reception at Ballpark Hilton Hotel Friday, 8th Annual Prostate Cancer Survivors & Awareness Walk at Kiener Plaza Saturday, the Literary Corner, the MBE Music Fest on Aug 28 and the Literary Corner and Gospel Explosion Aug 29 (SEE EVENTZ BELOW) .

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ???????????????????????????????
Why did people trip hard when KMJM personality Tammie Holland posted the pic of Wanda Sykes and her girlfriend on her blog? Why did that young girl call the police about a baboon on the loose coming to find out it was a hoax? Why didnt Rams owners Chip Rosembloom and his sister Lucia Rodriguez sell only 30 percent of their rights to Stan Kroenke and not the whole 60 percent? Why did Internet sensation Kat Stacks cell cam Souljah Boy's hotel room where she zoomed in on the lines of Coke on top of the dresser ? Why did the cops take that 16 year old girl to jail after she rushed on stage with Trey Songz at the Fox Theatre ? Why did KPLR TV put the wrong info about Joel King's play during his interview (they put Vaughn Cultural Center instead of Grandel Theatre)? Why am I not surprised that Home Nightclub closed? Why does it look like Fantasia's suicide attempt looks like a ploy to sell her just released new CD? Why do fluffy women try and wear leggings? Why do StLians call the chinese food places' Chinamen" and teh East St. Louisians call them "Rice Houses?" Why does it seem like a lot of TV journalists in the STL area are leaving? Why is it still hard to believe that Aaliyah is gone? Why is porn star Brian Pumper trying to be a rapper? Why are the DEA trying to find people and hire those who can translate Ebonic drenched convos from drug dealers on wire taps? Why are the media making it seem like the miners in Chile who are trapped 2,000 feet underground are calm and collected? And why is Tiger Woods' ex, Elle, now saying she didnt hit Tiger with the golf club?
