OUT 865--ILLI MO (A&E) BITZ)

HAPPY 5th OUTTOWN!
TIME TO GET TOWNED !!!

THE BIG STORY THIS WEEK is: Jurors in the Blago trial deliberated this week and will continue this week. The former Illinois Governor was not in attendance at court and was reportedly running and exercising to escape from the possible realities of the jury’s ultimate decision. (his attorney Sam Adams reportedly is a nervous wreck ) . The big decision so far has been if Blago is charged for racketeering , one of his 20 plus counts, he and his wife could lose their Ravenswood Manor home in Chitown and Washington, D.C., condo and would be auctioned off. Adams and the other Blago team met with the judge in regards to this matter and whether the home seizures would take place ASAP or the day after the verdict in this charge is read by the head juror. The jury will continue to deliberate today.

The way its looking, Blago may get charged of lower counts but on the major charges of bribery we cannot see him found guilty cuz of the lack of evidence from the prosecution that he actually DID it. Oh, BTW, did you know thats Blagos real first name is Milirad (Rod is his nickname)?

The First Lady Michelle Obama and her 9-year-old daughter Sasha arrived for a summer vacation in a motorcade with Secret Service at the posh Hotel Villa Padierna in southern Spain as President Barack Obama and elder daughter Malia did not make the trip Wednesday to one of Spain's glitziest seaside resorts. The White House says Mrs. Obama was accompanied by longtime family friends but did not identify them.
Meanwhile her husband, spent his b-day with friends his former home in Chitown in the Hyde Park Neighborhood (Malia is out to a summer camp). He aslo had dinner with Oprah Winfrey and her friend Gail.

Hmmm, so the First Lady is taking a “girls out” vacation away from her husband while he celebrates his b-day chillin with the Big O . Hmmm.

Earlier in the week, the First lady made news from an artist’s interpretation of her. Sculptor Daniel Edwards is set to unveil a bare-chested bust (NO PUN INTENDED) that shows Michelle donning a pearl-studded afro pick shaped like an eagle placed in what's been described as a “Nerfertiti-esque” hairstyle. The sculpture also shows the First Lady wearing large hoop earrings and sporting an American flag engraved on her chest. Titled “Michelle Obama's Makeover for America”, the sculpture will be available for viewing at the Leo Kesting Gallery in New York City on October 1st.

An Afro pick? Hmm., that’s a bit of a stretch.

In unrelated Michelle newz, last month, she threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles game against the Tampa Bay Rays. She was in the city because the MLB League’s association was teaming with the White House for her “Let’s Move”: Program.

d
This week the Rams Golden child quarterback Sam Bradford finally made practice in Rams Park as he and his agents waited for the organization to finalize his contract of $78 million dollars ($50 million guaranteed for six years). The deal became the biggest deal in NFL history. The 2010 First Draft Pick was chosen by the team in April and the star player did not make the first few days of training camp because of the terms of his agreement had not been finalized .

No wonder the Rams were not interested in signing Terrell Owens, all the money went to Bradford! And with just a year of experience of quarterbacking, Bradford a lot is riding on watching his throwing arm. But without a great team, that’s all that the Rams would be watching!

There was a press conference that had taken place Wednesday at the Scott Trade Center for the landmark Gateway to Greatness fight that will take place Aug 7 at the venue. St. Promoter Don King moderated the conference gearing up for the HBO televised tripleheader, plus an undercard fourth championship match..

Also there was STL native and unified World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champion Devon Alexander who will be challenged by former World Boxing Association super lightweight champion Andriy Kotelnik, who also attended) from Lviv, Ukraine.

Also at the press conference was IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud from Tallahassee, Fla., and his opponent former IBF light heavyweight champion Glen “Road Warrior” Johnson, a Jamaican now of Miami.

Plus, STL native junior middleweight champ Corey Spinks, who will fight in a non-televised championship fight against IBF mandatory challenger Cornelius “K9” Bundrage from Detroit, Mich.

The other non televised fight will be press attendees St. Louisan, undefeated cruiserweight contender Ryan “The Irish Outlaw” Coyne and his opponent fellow unbeaten Warren “The Hit Man” Browning from London, Ky., for the vacant WBC USNBC cruiserweight crown. (GO TO OUT 864 for pics and recap!)

TIDBITZ. At the press conference, Don King said that he wasnt able to attend Alexander's Homecoming party at City Hall Sunday cuz his flight was delayed then cancelled. He also said that scheduled to attend the fight are boxers Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Floyd Merriweaher Jr. Also, it was mentioned by his PR guy, Alan Hopper, that Fox Sports will air a documentary about Alexander today (check your local listings) and there will be a screening of it today at 7:30 p.m.at Lucas Park Grille on Washington.

In unrelated King news, he will walk the red carpet

In related newz, close to 1,000 supporters came to celebrate the homecoming for Devon Alexander that took place Sunday at the City Hall Building in downtown St.Louis (PICTURED). The event was hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, his manager Eric Rhone, and Board of Alderman Lewis Reed. The event was sponsored by ScottTrade Center, Lumiere Place and Ozzie/s. (TO SEE PICS GO TOhttp://maatology.blogspot.com/2010/08/out-863-devon-alexanders-homecoming.html )

Chitown superstar rapper
Kanye West is still on his networking promo tour for his upcoming fifth CD when he visited Rolling Stone magazine this week (talk about instant mag cover!) There he talked about , well, himself , his CD and the sacrifice that artists should make for art. He said, “ Everyone says great art comes from pain, but I think my greatest art comes from excitement and joy.” Dapperly dressed, the visit lasted two hours or so with a Q&A session ala his tour of the Facebook headquarters last week.
He also talked about his dream to work with certain artists such as Lauryn Hill and that Twitter was made with him in mind (CLASSIC KANYE).

Speaking of Kanye and Twitter, the rapper voluntarily chose a follower of his to follow them. That person was Steven Holmes, a teenager from Coventry, England,
"I just commented on something on Kanye West's account and next thing I know he's following me," Holmes told his hometown paper, the
Coventry Telegraph.After he realized he'd been singled out, an elated Holmes thanked West on his account, Tweeting, "Holy s--- bro thx for following!" West, responded, "You are the chosen one dun dun dun dun."After the Tweet chat, the youngster had a windstorm full of fans followers and reporters who wanted to talked with him.
Welcome to fame. LOL

Chitown native and Emmy Award winning comic/talk show host Sherri Shepherd might become the newest host of Game Show Network's “The Newlywed Game” replacing singer Carnie Wilson according to
reports from Joe Adalian at New York Magazine's Vulture blog. The network has been searching for a replacement since Wilson;s departure, If Shepherd gets the job, the show would move its production to New York (from Hollywood) where she currently works on the ABC hot daytime show, “The View.”
Hmm, wonder what’s going to happen with the negotiations from her cancelled hit show, “Sherri" that only aired a season of Lifetime? There were talks for another network to pick it up. Only time will tell.

++++++++++++++++++++++

In other Chitowner newz: Award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson said recently that she was thinking about shaving off her hair and try a new look without the hair extensions. She also said that she will not lose anymore weight (She is currently size 6).....In the rumor mill, rapper/actor Common is currently dating choreographer Fatima Robinson.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
ILLIMOians continue to get real on TV:

Benton, Illinois native comic made the Top Five this past Monday on NBCs “Last Comic Standing.” At this point, he has locked a spot on the show’s upcoming Last Comic Standing Tour. Next Monday will be the finale and we will see if Johnagin also cops the quarter of a million!

ILLMOIANS on the first episode of the eighth season of Lifetime’s “Project Runway” that aired last Thursday, all advanced to the second round. They are STL natives Michael Drummond and A.J. Thouvenot and Lake Forest, Ill native Peach Carr.

But not all survived the cut. St. Louis native and former NFL star Isaac Keys was eliminated last Thursday from Omarosa reality show "Donald J. Trump Presents the Ultimate Merger"on TV One. (Hmm, no wonder Keys made public appearances and hosted an event in the STL recently. From our understanding, reality show stars are under a gag order and cant make public appearances while on a competition show. )

AND

In other reality competition shows with an ILLIMOian perspective, Former STL Rams and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is joining the cast of the new season , Season 11, of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Warner, who retired from the NFL in January and continues to visit St Louis for his charities he set up in the city, will be officially announced as a competitor on the show along with the new cast Aug. 30 during an episode of "Bachelor Pad."

++++++++++++++++++++++

Last week, St. Louis Cardinals’ right fielder Ryan Ludwick was traded to the San Diego Padres for starting pitcher Jake Westbrook. But the the newz was there were allegations that Ludwig was not happy with the trade and blamed manager Tony LaRussa for it for not putting him more in the game. Ludwick reportedly says he left on good terms.
.
"I don't want people to think I left on bad terms, that I hate Tony or anything like that," Ludwick said from Los Angeles, where the Padres were appearing in a three-game series against the Dodgers. "I respect the heck out of him as a Hall of Fame manager.”
LaRussa reported as saying that he followed the players schedule and that sometimes players have to sit out.
But one thing for sure, the Cards fans were not pleased with the trade.
The
St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the day before Ludwick left town, he and manager Tony La Russa had a "terse" meeting about the outfielder's playing time. Ludwick felt he wasn't getting enough, while La Russa maintained he was simply following through on his stated intention after Ludwick came off the disabled list a week earlier to leave the player out of the starting lineup once each series. The report also said that Ludwick was a but miffed that he was given the star treatment like players , Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina.

Well, this is obviously a public relations spin. If you were in Ludwick;s shoes, wouldn’t you be pissed to be traded while the Cards are on a winning streak and is on top of their division as well as feeling a bit left out of the superstar troika?

+++++++++++++++++++

In other Cards newz, its third baseman David Freese ankle injury recently was a season ender and the club is searching for another third baseman in 2010 and don’t; know if Freese would be healthy enough for the next season. Freese tore tissue in his right ankle rounding third base and damaged the tendon that helps hold the joint together.

In good sports injury newz, STL Rams cornerback Ron Bartell’s right ankle injury was not season ending and will return after healing. Bartell, injured his ankle during practice drills last week and was taken off on a cart. Xrays showed that the injury was negative for any damage and was a very bad sprain.

LAst week, Kennet., Mo native and Grammy Award winning singer/guitarist Sheryl Crow's new CD, "100 Miles From Memphis" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Her release was behind Eminem and Rick Ross’s CD’s (No. 1 and No. 2 respectively ) making her the top selling non-hip hop artist to debut on that chart .

STL ‘s own Nelly has been making the newz lately in regards to his upcoming release, “5.0.” and his comeback. He was the supris guest at the Chuck Berry concert held last week at Kiener Plaza for rallying support of the committee for the 2012 Democratic National Convention to be held in the city. At the concert, he debuted a new song from his upcoming CD entitled, “Just a Dream” a pop oriented song about love lost from life’s battles.

Also last week, he leaked the first single to media outlets, “Tippin in the Club,” which is more of a gritty club anthem. But not everyone is excited about Nelly’s comeback attempt and one is hip-hop dj Bishop who went on a tirade on Twitter against Nelly saying that he would fail in his comeback attempt an din his words, “he needs to lay off the steroids.” He also ripped Hot 104.1 radio dee-jay Yong Dip and the Derrty DJ crew for playing Nelly’s comeback single. Do we need even MORE beef and disunity in the STL rap game?

In unrelated newz, there has not been any decision as of this blogging as to whether the first ever hip hop concert in country land will survive the promoter’s appeal.

Last week, according to the Springfield’s News-Leader, city Planning Director Jim Lawson denied the application to hold a concert featuring Nelly in Branson, Missouri citing several concerns, including noise, parking and crowd control.

Concert promoter Paul Dunn originally wanted to hold a concert featuring Nelly in the parking lot of The Grand Palace, which is undergoing renovations inside.

The parking lot of the venue can hold about 6,000 people, while the inside of The Grand Palace can house 4,000. In a telephone interview, Dunn said the theater faces a lot of work to repair the damages of flooding and vandalism before indoor concerts can be held.

Lawson also claimed Dunn, the promoter, began promoting the event prior to submitting an application for the concert, which is scheduled for August 21st.

Dunn, claimed that Lawson asked for an updated application, which was then used against him.

"The following day that update and resubmit was used against me in a press release stating we announced this event and start of ticket sales before applying," Dunn’s appeal letter to the board reads.

The promoter’s appeal will include new outlines for security along with signed documents from neighbors who welcome the concert, which is expected generate about $500,000 for the resort city.

Branson is a resort city located in Missouri and is traditionally associated with country singers like Wayne Newton, Kenny Rogers and Pat Boone.

According to organizers, about 3,000 tickets have already been sold.

Hmm, sounds like someone on the board ain’t too kosher on tainting the milk with a drop of chocolate and don’t want the mix to occur. .

UPDATE: The show will go on, but at a different venue, the Mansion Center in Branson. The Board of Appeals denied a permit for Dunn Thursday to have the event at Grand Place's parking lot.

++++++++++++++++

And speaking of hearings, the owners of Lure Nightclub will have its public hearing with the Excise Division 2 p.m. August 27th in Room 208 of City Hall for answer questions on nuisance complaints from surrounding neighbors (Club 15 and Sugars were given reprieves) . Now what's interesting is Liquid Assets who promotes the popular Thursday night event, Red HottThursdays, will have its farewell party on August 26, the day before the hearing. We wonder why Liquid Assets are doing a farewell event and it could be a possibility that Lure may get a reprieve as well. Hmm, interesting.

The STL is getting on the hosting bandwagon on a national scale thsiweek. First the Gateway to Ghreatness fight on Aug 7 and two days prior St. Louis was picked to host the second première of "The Other Guys" with stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg this Thursday at Wehrenberg's Chesterfield Galaxy 14 Cine. The stars will arrive by 6:30 p.m., and the movie will screen at 7, and fans who arrive earlier could win on site ticket giveaways. The film made its first premiere in NYC Wednesday and then bring it to the STL for a red carpet event dubbed “The Other Premiere.” .
The stars of the event announced the city winner on the Today Show Monday.

St. Louis was in the running with several other cities (including Chitown) in a Facebook poll.

Media mogul and owner of CNN, Ted Turner, will make an appearance in St Louis to receive an award at the Endangered Wolf Center at the St. Louis Zoo Oct. 1.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Did anyone hear that former heavyweight champion Ken Norton was coming to St. Louis in the near future to give a speech about his famous fight? We got the tail end of the info when we were listening to the Frank O . Pinion Show in KTRS 550 AM.

Budding rap superstar Drake is returning to the STL (two months after his appearance at Auperjam at Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre) on a stop on his The Light Dreams and Nightmare Tour. He will perform at the Fox Oct. 12. Rap duo The Clipse opens.

Speaking of concerts, the 20th anniversary House Party concert starring Kid N Play was cancelled for the Friday show at Chaifetz Arena. The concert had its share of problems first being postponed from July 2 with original lineup of Full Force, Force MDs and MC Lyte along with Montell Jordan and Monie Love hosting. Then the shows lineup changed in mid July taking away acts Full Force , Force MDs and Mc Lyte and added Slick Rick, Dru Hill, Biz Markie and oddly added rapper Trina (Jordan and Love were still on the bill.) There was no explanation as to why it was cancelled (Hmm, could have been the ticket sales? I mean, it is Kid N Play. LOL)

Roc-a-fella ‘s new rap star J Cole will host THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS as promoted by Three way promotions. The party will take place Aug 13 at the Loft. HOT 104.1 FM'S DJ CUDDY WILL BE MIXING IT U ALL NIGHT LONG

St. Louis native singer-songwriter Kevin Renick, will perform Friday at Euclid Records where the venue holds Webster Groves Finale Friday (7 p.m.) where the last Friday of each month, Euclid Records features a local act. It is billed as Beatle Bob's 5,000 th Show bash. Bob has attended a live concert everyday since December of 1996. If ya don't know him, well you do if you attended a concert here in St. Louis. (This week's Riverfront Times has a brief interview with him about his drive to see concerts.) He is the very tall, skinny white guy who sports suit jackets and wears a Moe mushroom shaped hairstyle with brunette hair. You usually see him dancing in weird jerky short kicks and spins near the side of the stage.

Now you know who he is? (We woudla had a pic but we got the story too late to add a pic)

Mcdaniel , who will be moved to a hospice soon, did his reviews live from Denver, around 5:50pm CST, talking up the latest movies and videos. Instead of giving films stars, he gave them "Aiight dens."

IN THE MIA FILE. What happened to STL native singer and national recording artist Truth (formerly Truth Hurts).

BLIND PICZ. Who was this old school player who wore the all lavender-colored outfit at the Homecoming Party for Devon Alexander at City Hall Sunday?

BLIND BITZ. Which STLnative socialite posted this quote on her Facebook page involving her experience with a STL area native personality at a recent event: "I was at an event tonight and (THIS PERSON) acted like he didnt know who I was. We go back to '88 mofo when u was calling me to come to ur show at the Wiz and Sandfords. Folks forget where they come from. I will not support (HIS OR HER) fat ass again. U will not make a dollar off my money. PEACE BUTTERBALL! (Hint. The socialite's last name is a "flower" and first name starst with a "C." The person they are talking about's first name also starts with a "C" and last name is like the first name to a fictional character on a popular character on a popular 1990s urban sitcom.)

PRO-MO-CIAL-I-CIOUS. Which promoters/socialites got it in this week? Promoter Mocha Latte and singer/actress Sevin Lii (TIE) and comic/promoter Maurice G.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ????????????????????
Why did the cast of Jersey Shore ring bell at the New York Stock Exchange? And why did Jersey Shore star Snooki tried to get out of getting arrested for drunken behavior asking the cops did they know who she was? And why the The View hosts ask Obama if he knew Snooki when he made his appearance on the show? Why cant the East St Louis Mayor Alvin Parks and the East St. Louis police and fire department and their unions come up with a compromise to avoid layoffs? Why did that NYC artist use an Afro pick as part of his bust creation of First Lady Michelle Obama? And why did President Obama have dinner with Oprah and Gail? Why does Jennifer Hudson wanna cut off all her hair? Why did the House Party concert with Kid N Play get cancelled? Why did it seem STL boxing trainer Kevin Cunningham and STL boxer Corey Spinks seemed a bit uneased after the Gateway to Greatness press conference at Scott Trade Center? And why was boxer Cornelius Bunridge yawning and putting on and off his sunglasses throughout the press conference ? Why is Wyclef Jean trying to run for president of Haiti? And lastly, why did those STL heisters of the armored truck in St Louis didn’t think afterwards with the get away car before getting all those millions from the ATM?
