THE BIG A&E STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Chicago talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN is fledgling in the ratings despite parent company Discovery’s $12 million loan. Discovery Communications released its third quarter earnings report today, and the news is not good. OWN seems to be in the hole by approximately $55.6 million. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is holding out hope that “OWN’s fortunes will improve now that Winfrey is serving as full-time CEO.”

Winfrey however, is too busy taking motivational seminars and conducting webcasts right now. On Fridays, Winfrey discusses Lifeclass lessons during an hour-long webcast with a live audience, and invites viewers to comment or ask questions in person or through Facebook, Twitter and Skype. Speaking about the webcasts, Winfrey says it’s “the most fun I’ve had ever.”

In unrelated Oprah newz, the unveiling of Oprah Winfrey‘s “Favorite Things” list appears in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine — and this year, 12 lucky readers will win every item featured in the jam-packed gift guide as part of the “12-Day Holiday Give-O-Way” sweepstakes. The 2011 O list includes picks from Winfrey, plus items loved by friends and contributors Gayle King, Dr. Oz, Suze Orman and more. Winfrey’s favorites to “comfort mind and body” include scented candles ($45), a bottle of Jay-Z’s champagne ($300) and Marigot Collection’s pajamas and cashmere robe ($234 and $412). King’s “cheery delicious gifts” include seven-layer caramel cake ($46) and a python-print wheeled carry-on bag ($108).

In more unrelated Opreah newz, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will give her the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award on Saturday at the third annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles. The announcement that Oprah was to receive the honor was made over the summer, and a bit of controversy followed because critics argued that because she works in television and not film, she does not fit the description of someone who is even eligible to receive it. Oprah herself acknowledged that there is some discrepancy between the award's description and got why people weren't sure she deserved it, saying "I understood it because I was equally surprised. I was surprised because I am not known as an actress. I've done film and I love the films that I've done. I understand people thinking, 'Where's her list of credentials for films,' "but I don't think there's room for criticism in the do-good department."

And in more Oprah newz, her bosoms made newz when she was at a party to celebrate the launch of Versace's one-off collaboration with high street chain H&M. She made newz with her very low-cut neckline that came dangerously close to spilling out of her plunging red satin.

We are sure Oprah wanted to list one of her favorite things to be a successful network. The way things are going, the network may not last long.

A St. Louis production duo who claim they created the tracks that became the "Saturday Night Live" digital shorts "Like a Boss" and "Shy Ronnie" have filed a lawsuit recently against the show and castmember Andy Samberg claiming they haven't been properly paid for their work. StarStrukk Production members Aleric "Rick tha Rular" Banks and Monique "Foxx StarStrukk" Hines(PICTURED) filed a lawsuit in New York federal court last week ...........

against NBC Universal, Samberg, the Lonely Island (PICTURED) and Universal Republic Records for willful copyright infringement and unjust enrichment.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the suit alleges that Samberg's band, the Lonely Island, recorded the tracks submitted by the duo "verbatim," and then added lyrics on top. Samberg performed "Like a Boss" with Seth Rogen on "SNL" on April 4, 2009, and in December of that year he got together with Rihanna for the Emmy-nominated "Shy Ronnie."

The pair told a local paper that they hooked up with Samberg through a mutual connection in California in 2008, when they submitted tracks to Lonely Island for the band's debut album. "Like a Boss" was featured on the trio's 2009 disc Incredibad, while "Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde" was featured on this year's Turtleneck & Chain.

In August 2010, StarStrukk told a local paper that they were excited about being nominated for an Emmy for the "Shy Ronnie" skit, which they said featured a beat they tried, unsuccessfully, to sell to local acts like City Spud and Yung Ro as well as Young Jeezy. But after not getting the credit they felt they deserved or being paid appropriately, they filed suit.

Banks claims he signed a form sent by the Universal Music Group in which he stated that he was a 50 percent owner of the copyright on "Like a Boss" as the writer and producer of the tune. According to the suit, he received a response letter that only gave him 25 percent interest in the tune. But, so far, Banks says he hasn't gotten any producer royalties or profits from the songs.

If our memory is any indication, record companies have to recoup expenses on records sold and it takes a minute for monies to be dispersed after the recoupment and artists are paid quarterly. So when the beats were bought by NBC via Universal in 2009, that’s two years so enough time has lapsed for royalties to be dispersed. But the question is, why did NBC only give the STL duo 25 percent as opposed to 50 percent?(WORDZ TO THE WHYZ)and of that 25 percent, he has received any royalties…. If conventional wisdom plays on this, NBC will settle out of court.

Due to overwhelming demand for the pairing of superstars Chicago reared Kanye West and Throne partner Jay Z, additional shows have been added to their historic WATCH THE THRONE TOUR. New tour stops include a stop in Chicago at the United Center on November 30th.

In unrelated Ye newz, he was among several artists who performed at this year]’s Victoria Secret Lingerie extravaganza Wednesday at the Lexington Avenue Armory in NYC. According to reports, a lot of the backstage buzz before the show was about West, who was originally scheduled for the 2007 show but pulled out after his mother’s death.

“I lost my super hero,” he reportedly said when he eventually landed on the runway, “and now she’s my super angel.”

He started singing and that cued model Alessandra Ambrosio to come out in a leather harness, push-up bra, thigh-high leather boots and a long, flowing cape splashed with the word “incredible” in cartoon-style letters trailing behind her. Model Lindsay Ellingson was on her heels in a leather bodysuit paired with silver wings and soon after came Erin Heatherton in a latex bodice and silver-dagger, weaponlike wings.

West then called out his “big bro” Jay-Z to come from backstage for the next song. West wore a brand new Versace for H&M jacket and black leather pants with a low-slung gold belt, and Jay-Z went the black hoodie with black jeans route.

Other performers include Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj. The show will be aired on CBC Nov 29.

And whats up with ye getting choked up over his ex, Amber at a recent concert? What was that all about?

Emmy Award winning actress and Doloth, Ill native Jane Lynch made a move to Springfield Sunday on all new episode of The Simpsons. In the episode, The Simpsons children are pitted against each other after the school science fair. After losing his job, Homer realizes that Roz has an evil past, so he teams up with Flanders to take her down and reveal the truth about her.

EW crowned Plainfield, Ill native and Emmy Award winning actress Melissa McCarthy the new Queen of Comedy. She is on the cover of their Comedy Issue. The Bridesmaids, Mike & Molly and SNL star—not the typical Hollywood leading lady—“gives you faith in the industry,” says her Bridesmaids director Paul Feig. Of her success, and dismissing notions that she’d rather be a clothes hanger type of star, she says: “I think I’m more confident than I’ve ever felt in my life. I always thought it was worth the fight. Now I know it is.”

Highlights from Miss McCarthy's interview are as follows.

On a blogger writing about her weight: “My first thought was ‘Gosh, I hope she doesn’t have a daughter.’ And then after a second I thought, ‘What a sad, troubled person. You’re making such a s—ty judgment on people.’ Do I sometimes hope I wake up in the morning and people are like, ‘What’s wrong with her? She looks emaciated,’ ” she says. “Of course I would love that. I’m such a clothes whore I would love the opportunity to be a hanger. But I think I’m more confident than I’ve ever felt in my life. I always thought it was worth the fight. Now I know it is.”

On what she'll do if her kids try to "pull some crap" like her 3-year goth phase in high school: “I will embarrass my kids to their core. I will threaten to show up in hot pants and a tube top. Their dad will drive me. And he’ll let me and my friend Lisa get pretty drunk in the backseat and we will come into that party and just rip it up.”

On her final day on the "Bridesmaids" set: “I felt like school had ended and I was saying goodbye to all my best friends and it would never be this perfect again.”

In related McCarthy newz, she and The Help director Tate Taylor are in talks to work together. Taylor, who’s riding high on the box office success and Oscar buzz for the female-driven drama, is negotiating to collaborate on McCarthy’s comedy project ”Tammy,” which is set up at New Line.McCarthy and Taylor, who know each other from their time in the comedy group The Groundlings, have been working together on the project for a few months. She co-wrote the script with her husband Ben Falcone (he played the air marshal in Bridesmaids) New Line confirms the project centers on an overweight woman who is laid off from her job at Hardee’s, discovers her husband is having an affair, and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother.

Chicago native rapper Lupe Fiasco and The Fiasco Street Team will hold a Hip-Hop discussion panel, November 12, at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, New York. The panel will commemorate the anniversary of the historic “Fiasco Friday” event, where hundreds of fans protested outside Atlantic Records in New York City for the release of Fiasco’s latest release, Lasers.

The goal of event is bring together artists, bloggers and writers, political activists, professors, and fans to consider the current state of Hip-Hop and explore the crossing lines between all mediums

Emmy Award winning actress and Oak Park, Ill native Betty White, is now an honorary Washington State University alumna. WSU Provost Warwick Bayly presented Whitewith a white doctor's coat at the Washington State Veterinary Medical Associations' (WSVMA) gala earlier this month. White has been a longtime supporter of WSU's College of Veterinary Medicine — White's is a WSU graduate.

When White received the doctor's coat, the six-time Emmy winner seemed touched but didn't miss a beat and requested the microphone. "So now that I have this white coat, if any of you would like to be spayed or neutered, I'm available," she told attendees.

White first began donating to the college in the early '90s and served on the founding steering committe for WSU's endowed Center for the Study of Animal Well-being.

At the event, White also received an honorary life membership in the WSVMA.

Later in that day, Kim was photographed making a phone call out on Kris' front porch. Kathy Griffin tweeted: "F ing LUV that Kim K is 'in hiding'...standing on Kris Humphries' porch inMinn in full hair & make up being photographed"

Kansas City, Mo native and Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle’s new dark comedy TV series for the Showtime network, titled House Of Lies (based on the book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn) debuts January 8.

House Of Lies is described as a subversive, scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm. Cheadle also recently signed a 1-year first-look deal with Showtime, under which he and his producing partners will develop and executive produce projects for the cable channel.

THE BIG STL NEWZ THIS WEEK IS :

According to stltoday.com, The Cardinals neared completion of their initial round of interviews Tuesday by meeting with former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona (PICTURED) , the most experienced of the club's known candidates under consideration to succeed Tony La Russa as manager.

The interview reportedly took place in Cincinnati, where Cards chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. resides and operates his private equity firm, Reynolds DeWitt & Co.

"We just had a dialogue," Francona said shortly before boarding a return flight home. "I enjoy talking about baseball — a lot. Without going into details, we discussed pretty basic philosophy. I'd call it an enjoyable, casual conversation."

Francona reportedly voiced enthusiasm for returning to the dugout. Boston reportedly declined to exercise its option on him for next season after the Red Sox suffered one of the biggest September collapses in baseball lore. He met with a search committee that includes DeWitt and general manager John Mozeliak.

Francona is also rumored to be under consideration for the Chicago Cubs' managerial vacancy but declined to confirm his candidacy there, calling it "kind of private."

Francona reportedly said he was not given a time frame for when DeWitt and Mozeliak would reach a decision.

The Cardinals last week interviewed Mike Matheny, Chris Maloney and Joe McEwing. Maloney and McEwing most recently managed at Class AAA. Matheny has no managerial experience, most recently serving as a roving coach within the Cardinals' minor-league system. The Cardinals have given indications they may be willing to bypass experience in exchange for leadership and presence, traits long associated with Matheny.

Still to be interviewed are Ryne Sandberg and Jose Oquendo. Both of those interviews are expected as this blog is posted.

STL Mayor Francis Slay's website, mayorslay.com, was hacked this week and someone posted a message that appears to address Occupy St. Louis according to ksdk.com

Richard Callow of Public Eye, Inc, which run's the mayor's campaign, confirmed that a campaign IT staffer discovered the breach.

The hacker wrote on the site Tuesday, "YOU CAN REMOVE US FROM KEINER [sic] PLAZA, BUT NOT FROM YOUR SYSTEMS."

Callow said the hacker didn't compromise anything that could be considered sensitive information. The campaign was unsure if a member of Occupy was responsible for the post. Callow said that the mayor's dealings with Occupy have been "positive."

City officials and about four dozen protesters met Tuesday about the group's location in Kiener Plaza.

Now our question is How was the hacker able to hack the mayor’s website and the IT people didn’t have the hack protection already set on his website ?
