THE BIG A&E STORY /STL STORY THIS WEEK IS:

The St. Louis Cardinals won their 11th World Series title Friday at Busch Stadium in Game Seven, beating the Texas Rangers 6-2 win . Their win was assisted greatly by St Louis native third baseman David Freese by hitting the game-winning home run in an iconic Game 6 last Thursday of the World Series, securing a Cardinals win and forced Game 7 of the World Series last Friday in arguably one of the most exciting baseball games in history. Freese also became the league’s MVP.

"This is a dream come true," Freese said. "This is why you keep battling."

Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa said the fans, cheering and supporting, helped his team to the muster the strength to comeback so many times.

"It is amazing, incredible," La Russa said. "This is for you, fans. Thank you so much."

The final two games of the World Series delivered for FOX, as Game 7 posted a 14.7/25 household rating/share with 25.4 million viewers to score as the highest-rated, most-watched game since 2004 when the Boston Red Sox broke their World Series drought, according to Nielsen. Game 7 also gave the network its highest-rated Friday night program in FOX history. Game 6 was also a dinger with a 12.7/21 fast national household rating/share with an average viewership of 21.1 million viewers for the network. Overall, the 2011 World Series on FOX averaged a 10.0/16 national household rating/share and 16.6 million viewers, for a 19% spike over last year's 8.4/14.

This was mos def good for the image of St Louis. Baseball critics are saying that Game Six was probably the best series played in MLB History, Only the Show Me State can make something like that happen!!!

In related Cardinals news, after winning the World Series MVP award, David Freese brought his trophy and his stories and appeared on the Jay Leno Show Monday night. Freese reportedly missed his morning flight out to L.A., but was able to grab another flight.

The crew on "Access Hollywood Live," featuring host Billy Bush and correspondent Kit Hoover, interviewed Freese that morning of his appearance..
He said he was rattled before his appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. "I was more nervous for that than playing in front of 50,000 Phillies fans," he said.

He also discussed athletic supporters and why ballplayers spend time adjusting their private parts.

.

Freese was also a surprise guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show that morning, too. He was on with a couple of super Cardinals fans who got engaged during the World Series.

Here is a clip of Freese on Leno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htUOwy3CLGY

In related newz, as David Freese was on the West Coast taping Ellen and Leno, former St Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, fresh from stepping down as manager of the team taped an episode of “The Late Show with David Letterman”

On there he talked about his retiring form baseball.

“You know, 33 years of doing it, it’s time to give somebody else a shot at that great St. Louis job. And, you know, it got to where I was taking things personal,” he said. “We had a strategy that I took a little personally, but it was effective: The players said, ‘Just get so far ahead that you couldn’t screw it up,’ It worked, but I thought, you know, that’s not really the place I should be.”

La Russa, said he already had a job offer, of sorts.

“I actually got a job offer this afternoon, I swear ... I did, I swear. My wife and I, we started a foundation about companion animal rescue, but there's a group called Performing Animal Welfare Society just outside of Sacramento ... and they offered me a job as an elephant keeper,” he said. “I told them I'll interview. I'm all for it.”

La Russa, admitted, though, that he’s a baseball guy through and through. “I signed when I was 17 years old — that’s almost 50 years ago and it’s all I know,” he said. “I keep waiting for the phone to ring and it’s going to be a little scary if it doesn’t ring.”

Speaking of phones ... La Russa stuck to his story about the Game 5 bullpen miscommunication, which prompted him to make a dizzying array of excuses and was, he admitted, embarrassing. “I made so many excuses to cover my butt at the time that I forget which one it was.”

Chicago bred rap star Kanye West and rap partner and mentor Jay Z kicked off their “Watch The Throne” tour in Atlanta Friday and the highlight was of West wearing a Givenchy Bomber Jacket & Leather Kilt and leggings onstage.

Hmm, some folk are saying Ye’s kilt looked more like a layered skirt. Only Ye could pull off gender bending in hip hop fashion. What do yawl think of his choice in dress?—pun intended. LOL

St. Louis born singer/producer Akon is scheduled to perform in China this week. The hip-hop artist is booked for three arena shows, stopping in Beijing on Friday before moving on to Shanghai and Guangzhou, but it’s not the first time he’s tried to tour China. A similar tour in 2009 was canceled because of swine-flu fears.

Asia might be seeing more of Akon in the coming year. While visiting Hyderabad, he told the Times of India that he wants to “be a part of the Bollywood scene.”

He has already worked with some of the region’s top musical acts. In 2009, he appeared in Taiwanese rapper Wilber Pan’s “Be with You,” and later that year, he included Korean pop star BoA on his song “Beautiful” and used the track on the Japanese version of his album “Freedom.”

Emmy Award nominated comedian/actor Tracy Morgan will perform at the Chicago Improv this Friday in Schamburg. Ill. Opening up will be comedian and Tom Joyner Morning Show personality Dominique.

ILLI MO REALITY

New reality show stars and St Louis natives Robbie Montgomery and Tim Norman, owner and manager of the Sweetie Pie’s soul food chain respectively, was on The Rosie Show aired on the OWN last week talking about its critically acclaimed new reality show documentary “Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s” that is aired Saturdays on the OWN

In OTHER STL NEWZ

On Monday, St Louis Cardinals manager Tony Larussa (PHOTO BY BILL GREENBLATT UPI) had a press conference at Busch Stadium to announce his retirement of baseball just three days after winning his third World Series ring. At the conference, , La Russa said that he already had his mind made up he was going to retire at the conclusion of the season, regardless of the outcome. He mentioned that he told general manager John Mozeliak in late August.

He also said that he told the players after the parade celebration Sunday evening and that "some grown men cried."

In an interesting side note KTRS Radio personality hinted at LaRussa retiring in August on his afternoon show and reiterated that premonition this week on his show saying that he got an inside report of it happening and even went off on air on fiolk who were shocked that it happened. There were many people in St Louis who didn’t like LaRussa because of his gruff personality and how he played Ozzie Smith during his debut as a Cards manager in 1996 by not starting The wizard in his final season as A Cardinal, but in the game, its all about winning, and that’s what LaRussa did—and its in the record books, not his personality.

+++++++++++++++++++++

In related newz, The Cardinals organization hopes to have a new skipper hired by Thanksgiving – three weeks from now. Name sthrown out there are

Cards third-base coach Jose Oquendo, Terry Francona, who managed the Boston Red Sox to World Series titles in 2007 and 2004 (when they swept La Russa’s Cardinals), Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon, Braves first-base coach (and former Cardinal) Terry Pendleton, former Washington Nationals manager Jim Riggleman, Cardinals coach Joe Pettini and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.

We actually want Ozzie Smith. LOL

+++++++++++++

In more related LaRusa newz, On Friday night, he will drop the ceremonial puck before the St. Louis Blues play the Vancouver Canucks. The Blues are commemorating the Cardinals' 11th World Series title with mezzanine level tickets for $11.11, and with plaza-level tickets for $29, Game 7 winner Chris Carpenter's jersey number.

There's also a buy one, get one free offer on hot dogs for fans wearing Cardinals gear.

There was a Parade and Pep Rally Sunday to celebrate the World Series win of the St . Louis Cardinals. An official crowd estimate was not immediately available for the parade down the streets of St. Louis and the celebration at Busch Stadium, but city officials expected several hundred thousand, and it was clearly that, if not more. The crowd was so large that people were parking more than two miles away, and interstate highways were jammed near downtown.

High school marching bands played along the parade route between 18th and 7th streets on Market

(Former) Manager Tony La Russa led the parade atop a beer wagon pulled by the Budweiser Clydesdales, followed by a truck carrying owner Bill DeWitt Jr. clinging to the World Series trophy.

The parade ended inside Busch Stadium, where a sold-out crowd watched the celebration. In fact, the ballpark rally sold out in 90 minutes after the Cardinals won the clincher on Friday.

At the rally, many players and organization heads spoke but the star was David Freese who, was bestowed with the keys to the City and County of St. Louis. Freese also took home a 2012 Corvette.

Hundreds of St. Louis Cardinals fans turned out for the unveiling of an Albert Pujols statue outside his restaurant Pujols 5 out in Westport Plaza.

Pujols did not mention free agency Wednesday during his speech as he stood near the 10-foot, 1,100-pound bronze likeness of himself.

Funds for the statue were provided by an anonymous donor two years ago. The sculpture was made by Harry Weber and is similar to Weber's work on Cardinals Hall of Famers outside Busch Stadium.

To see ceremony go to

http://www.fox2now.com/news/ktvi-pujols-statute-westport-100211,0,5183280.story

We think Pujols is leaving St. Louis Cards. As a free agent now, its his ballgame of whether he wants to stay or go—and its all about the dollar bill and who has more of it. One local radio station in St Louis reported that Pujols was buying a house in Miami so don’t be surprised if he announces that he is going to the Miami (formerly Florida) Marlins.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina won his fourth consecutive Gold Glove award on Tuesday, making him the first National League catcher to win four straight since 1998.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

The St Louis Rams won its first game of the NFL season against New Orleans 31-21 at Edward Jones Dome Sunday. Meanwhile wide receiver Steven Jackson rushed for 159 yards on 25 carries to give him his first 100-yard game of the season and 28th of his career. Jackson now ranks second in team history in 100-yard rushing performances, trailing only Eric Dickerson with 38. Jackson entered the day tied with Marshall Faulk in the category.

++++++++++++++++

The football Mizzou Tigers (4-4) won its first victory this season against a ranked team (Texas A&M) in 14 years. They next play Baylor on Saturday.

++++++++++++++++

In other Rams newz, Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Brandon Lloyd was picked up by the team recently.

Country singer/actress Reba McEntire and comedian/actor Chris Tucker’s concerts were sidetracked by the frenzy of the St. Louis Cardinals Games Six and Seven last Thursday at the Chaifetz Arena and Friday at the Fox Theatre respectively. Some people were in Cards gear, reportedly left to see the game on TV, some cheered when they found out the Cards were winning during and the entertainers themselves gave shout outs of the Cards’ victories during their sets. On a side note, we saw reports that Tony “Tiny ‘ Lister: the actor who played iconic character Deebo in the classic film, “Friday: made a cameo appearance on Tucker’s set riding his bike ala Deebo style.
