Cheesecake is a dessert consisting of a topping made of soft, fresh cheese, usually on a crust or base made from biscuit (such as a graham cracker crust), pastry or sponge cake.[1] They may bebaked or unbaked. Cheesecakes are frequently sweetened with sugar and may be flavored or topped with fruit, nuts, fruit sauce and/or chocolate. Cheesecake was already a popular dish in ancient Greece before Romans adopted it with the conquest of Greece.[2] The earliest attested mention of a cheesecake is by the Greek physicianAegimus, who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes.

Recipe of strawberry cheesecake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen sweetened strawberries, thawed

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened

  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 tablespoon water

Directions

  1. Combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar and butter. Press onto the bottom of an ungreased 9-in. springform pan. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. In a blender or food processor, combine strawberries and cornstarch; cover and process until smooth. Pour into a saucepan; bring to a boil. Boil and stir for 2 minutes. Set aside 1/3 cup strawberry sauce; cool. Cover and refrigerate remaining sauce for serving. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in milk. Add lemon juice; mix well. Add eggs, beat on low just until combined. Pour half of the cream cheese mixture over crust. Drop half of the reserved strawberry mixture by 1/2 teaspoonfuls onto cream cheese layer. Carefully spoon remaining cream cheese mixture over sauce. Drop remaining strawberry sauce by 1/2 teaspoonfuls on top. With a knife, cut through top layer only to swirl strawberry sauce. Bake at 300 degrees F for 45-50 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Carefully run a knife around edge of pan to loosen; cool 1 hour longer. Refrigerate overnight. Remove side of pan. Thin chilled strawberry sauce with water if desired; serve with cheesecake. Store in the refrigerator.

THE BIG A&E STORY THIS WEEK IS

Plainfield, lll native actress Melissa McCarthy won an Emmy Award for Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for her work on Mike & Molly.

While announcing the nominees for the category, all six ladies rushed on stage and waited! Edie Falco,Tina Fey, Laura Linney, Amy Poehler and Martha Plimpton all stood and watched while their fellow nominee Melissatook the prize!

I’m from Plainfield, Ill., and I’m standing here, and it’s kind of amazing,” Melissa said as she teared up during her acceptance speech.

Also, Doloth, Ill native and Emmy host Jane Lynch, lost the Supporting Actress in A Comedy for “Glee” and Oak Park, Ill native Betty White lost in the same category for “Hot In Cleveland (the award went to Julie Bowen for her work on “Modern Family'). Lynch did get good marks on her goofy spin of her first hosting duties. Also, Kansas City native actor Don Cheadle was a presenter.

Critics are saying that McCarthy 's win was a surprise based on the strength of the other actresses in the category. They are saying that she may have won her award with the help of scene stealing comedic role in the hit film “Bridesmaids” earlier this year. It could be possible, but we think she was awarded because the show itself , one of last season's breakout comedies, was not nominated for anything else.

ADD:She will be hosting "Saturday Night Live"Oct 1

Kennett, Mo. native and multi Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow was asked to write the music and lyrics for the Broadway adaptation of the 1982 film, “Diner” recently and is working with screenwriter Barry Levinson, who wrote the original script. The musical will arrive on Broadway next year.

Chicago talk show queen and mogul Oprah Winfrey and recent Chicago resident Rosie O'Donnell unveiled the new sign for the latter's new show last Thursday at an unveiling at Harpo Studios, reports AP. It reads: "Harpo Studios. The Rosie Show. Former Home of The Oprah Winfrey Show."

"Top billing for you girl," Oprah said.

"Not as the universe decreed, but OK for the sign," replied O'Donnell.

“The Rosie Show” debuts on the OWN Network Oct 11

Kiss kiss kiss. But not enuff for Oprah's name to not be on the sign.LOL

In related Rosie newz, she has purchased a home in Chicago's prestigious Lakeview area for $2.5 million. According to Realty.com, property has 6,000 square foot with five bedrooms and seven baths and was built in 2007.

In more Rosie newz, she introduced her new beau Michelle Ronds Monday night at O'Donnell's annual Rosie Theater Kids Gala in New York City.

"They met at a Starbucks a few months ago," a source tells PEOPLE. "They are adorable together and are very, very happy."

Award winning Chicago native singer/actress Jennifer Hudson Before wowed the crowd of WGCI radio listeners who won tickets for a private concert at Chicago’s Paris Club Tuesday night. The private event was part of WGCI's 'Whispers in the Dark' series that puts on private shows by big name acts at secret locations.

In unrelated J Hud newz, both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter praised her work as South African leader Winnie Mandela in the new biopic Winnie. They had less kind words, however, for the film itself, which recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Calling Winnie a "one-dimensional biopic [that] reduces important 20th century political figures to cardboard cutouts," The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney says Jennifer's "measured performance is one of the strengths here, even if her role is more an emblem for militant tenacity than a fleshed-out character."

Variety critic Peter DeBruge writes, "Hudson makes it easy to see why Mandela would find Winnie so attractive."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of WGCI FM, Grammy Award winning singer and Chitown native R Kelly stopped by the station's Morning Riot radio show in Chicago for a rare interview recently in which he talked about his recent throat surgery, dropped the title for his next album,Black Panties, and talked about the shots Trey Songz has fired in his direction.

"It was really scary," Kellz said of his surgery. "At the end of the Love Letter Tour, towards the end, I started feeling it. I thought I had a cold, but, man, I had like a cyst as big as a golf ball on my tonsils. The doctor's though, they cut it out, they took care of me really good."

For his upcoming 11th solo LP, the Pied Piper is going to get nasty once again.

"I just did the whole Love Letter joint and everybody thinking, 'Oh that's the direction he's goin' now,' " Kelly said on the Morning Riot on Thursday. "Nah, that was a moment in time, just like 'Ignition' and 'Bump n' Grind' and all this stuff was a moment in time. Now this Black Panties album ... it's the new 12 Play."

The R didn't reveal much more about the new album, but did say that the first single, titled "10 Minutes" would be coming soon.

Despite working together on Trey's second album (R. Kelly produced "Grub On" on Trey's 2007 Trey Day), the singer has been throwing shots at the R on songs and in interviews, criticizing Kelly for hopping on current trends like using Auto-Tune instead of standing as an innovator.

Kellz shrugs it all off. "I was pretty numb. I don't feel those type of things. It's like I'm bulletproof when it comes to beef. I don't deal with beef, I love steak," he said about Trey's shots. "I know Trey Songz is a guy that if he keeps with the hits and he humbles himself a little bit more, he will definitely be one of the runners up."itl

Black Panties? Really? Wow talk about an uncreative title. Thats one thing about R Kelly. He can be extremely prolific then be very mundane when it comes to his artistry. We think the R is getting back to the smut soul because his clean cut throwback Love Letter wasn't the big smash to consumers. And its interesting Trey Songz would beef with R especially when he is vocally compared to Kelly as well as being accused of biting R Kelly's sex soul image.

Chicago native and Grammy Award winning songstress Chaka Khan won temporary custody of her 10-year-old granddaughter recently because the child's parents are drug addicts -- this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

Chaka filed a petition for appointment of guardianship last week -- claiming she has already "assumed on a day-to-day basis the role of the child's parent fulfilling both the child's physical and psychological needs for care and affection."

Chaka claims the child's mother -- who lives in the same house -- is incapable of caring for the girl because of a "heavy involvement in drugs."

Chaka's sister Tammy McCrary -- who was also awarded custody -- filed an additional statement in the petition, claiming Chaka's son "also uses and abuses drugs and other illegal substances."

The judge temporarily granted the petition for custody September 6th ... A hearing is set for October to make it permanent.

Seems like Chaka's sis' lawsuit is a bit frivilous accusing her grown son who doesnt live with the singer as a drug addict but we think Chaka will get full custody altogether.

Former Chicagoan and Chicago Bullster Michael Jordan was fined recently by the NBA for $100,000 for public comments he made last month about the lockout and one of the league's players, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed that Jordan had been fined, but said the league would not comment on the total. In an Aug. 19 interview with The Herald Sun, a newspaper in Australia, the Charlotte Bobcats owner spoke extensively about the need for revenue sharing and mentioned Milwaukee Bucks' Australian center Andrew Bogut.

That violated the league's policy that bars team owners and employees from discussing the lockout or any players during the work stoppage. The NBA sent out a league-wide memo just before the lockout began on July 1 stating that anyone who broke the rules could be fined up to $1 million.

Jordan, who along with Bucks owner Herb Kohl recently lobbied other owners to support revenue sharing, told The Herald Sun: "We need a lot of financial support throughout the league as well as revenue sharing to keep this business afloat.

Interesting that MJ was fined only 10 percent of the max fine. Wonder if NBA Commissioner David Stern had something to do with that.

In unrelated MJ newz, his golf bag because the logo on his golf bag has his six NBA championship rings he won with the Chicago Bulls.

Uh Ok.

And in more MJ newz, his newest venture is The Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. According to reviewers, the vibe is youthful and trendy (think Vegas) especially with its glass catwalk that leads across an atrium into the dining rooms. The location is prime. It's just off Michigan Ave in Chicago. by all the shops and tourist attractions.

According to reports, The River City Casino, and Harrah's got their tax bills reduced by millions of dollars this week by the St. Louis County Board of Equalization.

The decision was based on members hearing the casinos appeal and cut Harrah's tax bill nearly $8 million and River City's over $3.5 million. The tax cut reportedly resulted into budget cuts from the county's all the way down to two local school districts. County Executive Charley Dooley, reportedly heard about the tax break at a South County town hall meeting and said he is not happy about it. However, Dooley can not influence the decisions.

Before their set, headliners Ron and Ernie Isley weregiven a resolution from Aldermanic President Lewis Reed, accompanied by Alderwoman Marlene Davis and St. Louis rapper Yung Ro, celebrating its 50 plus year career. Also, there was a surprise appearnce by R&B legend singer Dennis Edwards one of the former TemptationsMidliner El DeBarge was just OK and was bit jittery in his performance and his set was plagued with mic problems. A highlight was when his younger brother, Chico joined him on stage. Opener After 7's set was unplugged—literally when the backstage crew signalled their time was up and caused big BOOS from the crowd. We hraed that many ticketers got refunds afterthey discovered Keith Sweat was not performing but the attendance was still modest in comparison. (Pics by Carlston Edwards)
