OUT 1048--ILLI MO arts and ent BITZ (Sept 15-21)

HEY OUTTOWNERS!

ITS THAT TIME AGAIN!!

TIME TO GET TOWNED!!!

DISH BITZ

This week’s dish is:

Bubble tea

Bubble tea is the popular Americanized name for pearl milk tea and other similar tea and juice beverages that originated in tea shops in Taichung city, Taiwan during the 1980s. Drink recipes may vary, but most bubble teas contain a tea base mixed with fruit (or fruit syrup) and/or milk. Ice-blended versions of the drinks, similar to slushies, are also available, usually in fruit flavors.

Here’s the recipe for a Bubble tea Smoothie--

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons of bubble tea milk pudding powder

2 tablespoons of bubble tea flavored powder

1/2 cup of hot tea

1 ounce of bubble tea sugar syrup

1 cup of ice

1/2 cup of fresh fruit, such as pineapple, papaya, strawberry, mango, banana

1 scoop of cooked bubble tea tapioca pearls or jelly toppings

Preparation:

Add all the powders and the hot tea into the blender. Add all the remaining ingredients except for the tapioca pearls or jelly toppings into the blender. Blend the ingredients to your preference.

Pour the shaken ingredients over the tapioca pearls or jelly toppings into the drinking cup.

Add extra chopped fresh fruit or whipped cream as a topping if desired. Use a fat straw to enjoy the smooth texture of the fresh fruit smoothie.

Tips: Choose a bubble tea flavored powder that complements the fresh fruit you are using. Kiwi fruit does not work well in this recipe.

THE BIG A&E STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey gave a one-hour interview to Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg at the company's Palo Alto, California headquarters last Thursday where fans tuned in to watch a live online chat with the social networking site.

According to a story from AP, the chat took place in front of an audience of Facebook employees who cheered and took photos on camera phones when she walked out.

Winfrey covered a variety of topics including how Rosie O'Donnell has done some remodeling to Harpo Studios in Chicago. (O'Donnell will host The Rosie Show for Winfrey's OWN network beginning in October.)

"One of the first things she wanted was...the walls taken down...everybody's out in the open and her offices are dogs and kids and music is playing and there's a candy bar and a cookie bar... ."

Life has not slowed down since wrapping up "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in May.

"I think everybody thought I was gonna sit at home and relax...every time I run into people they say "How is it? How's retirement?" First of all I was never intentionally retiring. It's a little more frantic. The days were a little more organized. I feel a little out of body some days."

Winfrey is now focused on developing her OWN television network. She serves as its chairman, CEO and chief creative officer.

"It's a lot harder than I ever imagined. If anybody asks you if you want a network think about that," she joked.

She also said she never felt fear until she decided to launch OWN.

"The fear is getting this right and the fear is whether or not I'm ahead of my time. I fundamentally believe people are yearning for something more but if I look at, if you look at what's on television right now it doesn't look that way. The fear is I hope I'm right."

Winfrey responded to a special lightning round of random questions where she shared she likes thin crust pizza over deep dish, Chai tea to coffee and the iPad to actual books or the Kindle.

Winfrey toured the Facebook offices prior to her live chat and brought along employees from O magazine, OWN and Harpo because she believes they can learn from the social media site. "

Or in other words-- attend it or get fired. LOL. We are still waiting on her live broadcast from the Moon..and you know folk will jet set for that!

Earlier this month, Soul Train creator Don Cornelius was presented with an honorary “Don Cornelius Way” street sign with the Soul Train logo at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park that went up at the corner of Halsted and Madison, where he launched the show at WCIU-Channel 26. The DuSable High School product looked down at the sign and said, “This is the biggest thing that ever happened to me.”

a free concert was held at the park. Chicago soul greats Jerry Butler, the Impressions, the Emotions and Gene Chandler performed with an orchestra.

A few minutes later he was prodded to deal his signature “I wish you love, peace and soul” salutation, to which the hundreds of thousands who came through chanted along. The street honor commemorated the 40th anniversary of Soul Train. Soon after the honor,

R&B singer Johnny Gill was a guest on The Tom Joyner Morning Show Wednesday to promote his latest album, “Still Winning” that will be released Oct. 11 The CD was released on his new label, the St. Louis –based Notifi Records, headed by Ira Dewitt (PICTURED FAR RIGHT). When Joyner asked about the Twitter beef he had withDewitt, Gill said that the conflict was squashed and compared the situation to both of them having a baby and making sure that it was taken care of. In August, Gill went on Twitter tweeting about Dewitt calling her “nuts” and “deranged” after he discovered a track, produced by R&B singer Tank was supposedly leaked to the social outlets. After Gill’s tweet, Dewiitt subsequently filed a lawsuit for defamation and claiming that she got permission to release the preliminary track. She eventually dropped the lawsuit.

We guess only time will tell in regards to Gill and DeWitt’s business relationship. OUTTOWN got first glimpse of their business dealings recently during the filming of a video medley of three songs off his latest CD at the Mayfair Hotel and we saw and heard some animated discussions between them about the direction of his career with the label in between video takes.

When OUTTOWN asked was he still the label on Twitter, he replied, "NOPE." We responded back with the details on why he left, but as of this blogging, he had yet to respond.

And most of its starting players got inkured and casuing most of them to be calel dout of the game. The injured were running back Steven Jackson after a 47-yard touchdown in the first quarter with a strained right quad (Jackson is already listed as “out” for next week’s matchup against the New York Giants.) Another was quarterback Sam Bradford who left in the fourth quarter after his throwing hand collided with an opponent’s helmet (His finger is simply bruised ans will play Monday).Next was cornerback Ron Bartell who played the entire game, but afterwards discovered he got two fractures in his neck and will be out for the remainder of the season. Others suferung injuruies were fellow starter Bradley Fletcher listed as day-to-day with a sprained toe. And The last player to suffer an injury was wide receiver Danny Amendola who dislocated his elbow in Sunday’s game. It is still up in the air whether or not he will need surgery, in which case his season would likely come to an end.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In related Rams newz, Sam Bradford made all the throws during a short practice this week , making a fast recovery from a bruised index finger. A special glove designed to increase blood flow to the injury and reduce swelling may have helped get him back on the field quickly.

"Everyone says I look like Michael Jackson," Bradford joked Wednesday as reported by the Atlanta Journal constitution. "I'm not really sure what it does. They say it works and obviously my hand feels better, so I trust them."

Why do folk keep insisting that Beyonce’s baby bump is a prosthetic? Why did Keith Sweat cancel out on the St Louis stop of the Superstars of Soul show this weekend? Why are there so many recalls to food these days? Why do athletes continue to get busted creeping on their wives via cellphone texts and social networks (Deon Sanders is the latest)? Why is now coming out that Sarah Palin had a sexual fling with NBA player Gene Rice? Why do we not care that Whiz Khalifa and Amber got marred or not? Why are folk hating on Adele’s MTV performance? Why did John McEnroe tried to put his two cents in on Serena Williams getting fined for calling out the scorekeeper? Why hasn’t rapper Mr 314 blown up yet on the national music scene? Why is NFL er Roland Williams no longer part of the organization Youth Lifeline America? And why is every serious black oriented movie that has come out since “Precious” been compared to that movie (eg For Colored Girls, The Help, “Pariah",) ?
