DISH BITZ

THIS WEEK's FEATURED DISH IS:

JAMBALAYA!

Jambalaya is a Louisiana Creole dish of Spanish and French influence. Jambalaya is traditionally made in three parts, with meats and vegetables, and is completed by adding stock and rice. It is also a close cousin to the saffron colored paella found in Spanish culture.

Here is an easy recipe for Jambalaya:

2 teaspoons olive oil

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces

8 ounces kielbasa, diced

1 onion, diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

1/2 cup diced celery

2 tablespoons chopped garlic

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

salt and ground black pepper to taste

2 cups uncooked white rice

4 cups chicken stock

3 bay leaves

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

Directions

Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Saute chicken and kielbasa until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic. Season with cayenne, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook 5 minutes, or until onion is tender and translucent. Add rice, then stir in chicken stock and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer 20 minutes, or until rice is tender. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce.

THE BIG A&E STORY THIS WEEK IS:

President Obama's 35 minute jobs speech at Congress House joint session was aired Thursday for his urge for Congress to pass his Americans Jobs Act proposal and was characterized as his "Moment of Truth."

In his speech, he laid out a $450 billion plan to inject new jobs into the labor market.

According to a debate that was aired on NPR recently, Republican consultant Vinny Minchillo of Dallas-based Scott Howell & Company said:

: "I'd forgotten how good he is at it." (The "it" being campaigning.) Obama delivered not so much a presidential address, he said, but "a brilliant piece of campaign theater. This is the first salvo in the 2012 campaign," Minchillo said. "And right before our very eyes he conjured a fully-formed bad guy: Congress. And what every successful political campaign needs is a bad guy.”

So we guess Obama has now become John Wayne and Shaft mixed together.. This will be his secret weapon for re-election: J.O.B.S. Lets hope the speech rejuvenates Washington pundits and gets some jobs going because if any “tea” is spilled, then the spillers will be the blame forjobs not to be passed. A brilliant chess move we say! Besides, he at least pushed his speech up a day and didn’t interfere with the the debut of the NFL TV season with the game between the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.so at least give him that much! LOL

Here is the speech for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbT9FZAlWF8

With just over a month to go until the debut of Rosie O’Donnell’s "The Rosie Show," on the Oprah Winfrey Network, the network announced that tickets to see the show being taped live in Chicago will be available beginning Friday.

To request tickets to the show, which will shoot in the West Side studio that “The Oprah Winfrey Show” recently vacated, people should go Rosie.com or Oprah.com beginning at 10 a.m. Central.

“The Rosie Show,” to run nightly on OWN, will mix current events, celebrities and backstage glimpses. The tapings, sometimes two a day, three or four days a week, begin on Oct. 3, a week ahead of the Oct. 10 premiere.

In related Rosie newz, she will be the featured story for the October issue of O Magazine. In it, its editor Oprah Winfrey interviews O'Donnell, about her move from her home in New York to Chicago for O'Donnell's latest role as a talk-show host on the OWN channel and how fame has impacted her life. The October issue, which hits newsstands on Sept 13.

Well lets hope Rosie can pull it off because she is definitely out on her “own” at OWN to make some magic happen for the network!

As Kanye and Kid Cudi performed, tons of lights flashed around them while they danced around on stage. Then, Ye performed in Bergen at a show and accidentally fell off the platform. He was not injured In the middle of rapping, Kanye trips and takes a big tumble. The fans continued to cheer him on and he got right back up and continued his rhymes like nothing ever happened.

Oak Park, Ill native and Emmy Award winning actress Betty White can now add another byline to her resume: video girl. She was asked recently to guest star (and rap) alongside a group of beefed-up young men in the new music video “I’m Still Hot” for emerging British artist, Luciana.

“It’s a switch for me I will tell you, but it’s fun and they gave me these nice young men to work with that are built like little brick houses,” White happily told FOX411’s Pop Tarts during an exclusive set visit for the shoot. “It’s challenging, but the boys are being so dear with me. It’s hard to hear the recordings, the music goes straight up into the ceiling so I can’t hear where my cues are.”

The video, sponsored by life settlement specialists The Lifeline Program, benefits the Los Angeles Zoo – and animal care has always been White’s lifelong passion.

“Music videos are not necessarily close to my heart, but animals always are. I’m always comfortable with them,” she continued. “My beloved husband, Allen Ludden, when we would have a photo shoot he would always put a dog in my lap. They would have to shoot me from the neck up, but I’d always be so relaxed.”

In unrelated Betty newz, she is vying for the possibility of picking up her 8th Emmy award for her role in “Hot In Cleveland” when the Prime Time Emmy Awards will air Sept18 on Fox.

Famed Urbana, Ill native and Chicago reared movie critic Roger Ebert is releasing his autobiography "Life Itself: A Memoir," He details college life at the University of Illinois with fondness; his love of newspapering, which began early, took him through high school and college jobs and, since 1966, work at the Chicago Sun-Times; some of his love affairs and sex life, which include the I'm-not-sure-I-really-needed-to-know story of losing his virginity to a South African prostitute and culminate with his over-the-moon marriage to attorney Chaz Hammelsmith Ebert; TV success with the Tribune's Gene Siskel and Sun-Times colleague Richard Roeper; and his struggles with booze, which ended in 1979, religion and his health. The book is set to be released Tuesday.

On related newz when asked which actor he wanted to play Ebert in a film adaptation he replied, Philip Seymour Hoffman” who won an Oscar as another writer in 2005's Capote.

St. Louis born poet/educator Maya Angelou’s comment on the newly erected Dr King statue’ in Washington DC; and its inscription “I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness..”

.According to afro.com, Angelou told The Washington Post that the paraphrased version made the civil rights leader look like an “arrogant twit.

He was anything but that. He was far too profound a man for that four-letter word to apply,” she said.

The author said the paraphrase “minimizes the man” and makes him seem like an “egotist.”

Angelou is referring to King’s 1968 eulogistic speech he delivered the night before his death on April 3 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. In the

speech he said: . “If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,” he told his congregation. “Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.”

Angelou, who worked and knew King, was upset that the inscription did not read verbatim.

“I think it’s rather small of folks to pick at things,” said Ed Jackson Jr, the memorial architect. “This has been going on for 14 years, and all of them have had plenty of time to add their thoughts and ideas.”

Jackson said he told the U.S. Commission on Fine Arts, who oversaw the memorial, about the change and they were fine with the change. Angelou was listed as one of the Council of Historians to select inscriptions, but she did not attend meetings, Jackson said.

So the question arise WORDZ TO THE WHYZ: Why didn’t Dr Angelou speak up about her concerns nor made any meetings? We can see what she is saying, but as with anything with history, sometimes the facts gets changed for history sake. We think it isn’t that much of a big deal, but with her being a poet, we can understand her feelings on how words can be used for interpretation.

ILLO MO REALITY

The STL native ladies are continuing to make waves on their respective reality based competition shows. First, gospel singer Amber Bullock will have to wait next Sunday to see whether she will be the winner of Sunday Best as telephone and text votes after last Sundays show reportedly had the wrong numbers for Bullock and Hurricane Irene caused a shut down of voting or East Coast viewers. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ?????????????????????????

Why did it seem as though Obama's speech felt more like his reelection speech? And Why did Obama had to move his speech so the NFL season debut didn't get pre=empted? Why is there now info on a sextape between J Cole and Rihanna? And why is Jay Z just finding out about it? Why are folk making sketches on how Beyonce and Jay Z's baby will look like? Why were there so many shootings in St Louis at various nightspots overt the Labor Day weekend? Why did some NYC bank robbers post on Facebook the money they stole? Why did a Dutch woman call her ex boyfriend 65 thousand times? And is Autumn called Fall?
