OUT 1009--ILLI MO arts and ent BITZ (JUNE 2-8)

HEY OUTTOWNERS!

ITS THAT TIME AGAIN!!

TIME TO GET TOWNED!!!

Before we get into the bitz:

As the town of Joplin, Mo. continues to cope with the aftermath from the devastating tornado that hit the town last month, President Obama toured tornado-stricken Joplin, Mo. on Monday , and being visited by a thunderous applause, and he saw the devastation and recovery struggle in Joplin.

LATER THAT DAY:

Obama attended and spoke at a memorial service that was attended by over 2,000 people and promised people that 'the country will be there with you every single step of the way.

ALSO

JUNE is Black Music Month. To cleebarte, we will feature singers and musicians in the ILLI MO area who are on their way of becoming bright stars in the making.

This week we highlight STL based singer Coco Soul

Coco Soul is one St. Louis’ sought after singers. She has been on the scene professionally since the 1990s and has been featured at many venues and events in the area including Live On The Levee and opening up the Budweiser Superfest in 2010. She is also the co-creator of the successful monthly music showcase Cafe Soul that was formed in 2006 and that she hosted until 2010. She has also acted on stage with the St. Louis Black Repertory Company. Here is a snippet of Coco Soul performing live at

THE BIG A&E NEWZ STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Federal prosecutors had their first chance to cross-examine Rod Blagojevich on corruption charges Thursday, and they had a doozy of an opening question lined up: “Mr. Blagojevich, you are a convicted liar, correct?”

Blagojevich responded, “Yes.”

The ousted Illinois governor is facing a retrial on 20 federal corruption charges after a jury was deadlocked on all but one count of lying to federal agents last summer.

Blagovech opted against taking the stand at his original trial, but decided last week that he'd testify in his own defense this time around. He spent much of the week answering questions from his own lawyers, and the federal government was clearly eager to get its chance to grill the politician in front of a jury.

Blagojevich said he was not asking for a Cabinet post in for naming a Candidate post to President Obama’s vacated U.S. Senate seat. The former Gov. of Illinois also said the quick dismissal of the idea of him in such a job was embarrassing

Secret FBI tapes made in 2008 recorded Blagojevich as he appeared to attempt to sell the Illinois Senate seat that would be vacated by Barack Obama. On Nov. 5, 2008, the day after Obama was elected president, Blagojevich was recorded telling an adviser, “I’ve got this thing and it’s [expletive] golden, and, uh, uh, I’m not just giving it up for [expletive] nothing.”

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Blagojevich openly ignored the advice of his three lawyers on multiple occasions during Thursday's proceedings. The judge said Blagojevich was essentially acting as “his own lawyer,” according to the paper.

The prosecution focused on pointing out inconsistencies in Blagojevich’s past statements, while trying to “expose the man the jury got to know over the last few days as someone who baldly lied to the public,” the Sun-Times reports.

The New York Times reports that prosecutors asked Mr. Blagojevich if he had planted a false article in a local newspaper regarding his pick for a U.S. Senate seat. Blagojevich said he had, but that this was a standard political move.

Hmm, Blago acting as his own lawyer? Not good.

AND

St. Louis raised actress/comedian Niecy Nash jumped the broom last weekend to her hubby Jay Tucker wedding in a ceremony that took place at the Church Estate Vineyards in Malibu, California.

"It was a dream come true to be surrounded by family and friends as I married the most wonderful man," Nash told Life & Style. She stunned in an off-white strapless gown with a ruffled train. A flower and lace headband adorned her updo. She was supported by 10 bridesmaids who wore floor-length purple dresses, and singer and actress Cheryl Lee Ralph was Nash's matron of honor.

Nash and Tucker have been engaged since September 2010. They were surrounded by 200 friends and family members, including Sherri Shepherd of The View and Holly Robinson-Peete of The Talk.

If you want to watch the nuptials, Niecy Nash's Wedding Bash, a two-hour special, will air on TLC on June 4.

AND

Doloth, Ill native and Emmy Award winning actress Jane Lynch was tapped to host this year’s Emmy Awards that is set to air on Fox Sept.18. Now the question is , Will Lynch conduct her hosting duties as herself, or as her humorously mean-spirited character Sue Sylvester on “Glee.” In unrelated Lynch newz, she has signed on to play Mother Superior in the upcoming film, :The Three Stooges.” (SEE A FEW PARAGRAPHS DOWN FO MORE INFO ON THIS FILM)

The social network beef between rapper Nelly and STL promoter Slim has gone viral. From reports, Nelly went on record of refuting the various tweets Slim tweeted about him about using cocaine and steroids and is having financial problems. Nelly accuses promoter Loose Cannon S.L.I.M as the source of the rumors.

“First, if you believe Slim was my manager, then this is pointless anyway. Second, don’t nothing go in this body but fish, chicken, turkey, protein, ROZAY, Ciroc, Remy and Budweiser! Third, I know some hoping that foreclosure statement is true, but I’m sorry, ‘epic fail!’ Anytime anyone in STL wanna match deeds or pinkslips. HOLLA! #FACTS,” read a tweet from Nelly.

All of this back and forth banter have resulted in a Twtter feud between the two. S.L.I.M. staunchly defends himself in the aftermath of the ugly war of words.

They acting like I started it, and I’m doing it for publicity, but this n—- is the one doing it for publicity,” S.L.I.M. says. “When is the last time Mediatakeout, SOHH.com, or any of them other sites talked about this n—-? I don’t need that n—- for nothing. So for him to act like I’m trippin’ off him or need him at the game and he wasn’t invited, that’s when
he went on his rant as a hater. So that’s why I defended myself.”

Slim alludes to his recent annual Celebrity Basketball game that was held last month at the Chaifetz Arena that centered around his 10th year promoting events in the St. Louis area.

Nelly and S.L.I.M. have collaborated in the past with the promoter hosting events for the rapper. That relationship has now soured pretty badly.

“This n—- tried to lie on me and said I was from Atlanta,” S.L.I.M. says. “Then he said I owe him some money. If you all want to know the truth, I have 100K for this n—- to take a lie detector test that I owe him money or that everything I said wasn’t true, except for the $14 part. “

Locally, radio station WHHL (104.1 FM) was added to the Nelly-Slim beef, the station has received some negative feedback in the social networksphere on their playing a particular song from Nelly then followed with a song by Slim. Radio personality Tony J addressed the beef on his show Thursday saying that the situation could have been handled better, talked over and that things need to get squashed before things get violent over the situation.

This is getting ugly. And all this stemmed from a claim that Slim owed Nelly money (and vice versa) and the Twitter beef starting after someone asked Nelly if he was participating in Slim’s B-Ball game. And now it has come to this. It would seem as though a breaking point is bound to happen and let’s hope the two of them can come together and hash out what they need to has and keep it forward. It isn’t a good look for neither gents.

Several ILLI MO natives are currently filming the upcoming movie version of “The Three Stooges.” Cast as Larry is Chicago , Illinois native and Emmy Award winning actor Sean Hayes and Doloth, Ill. native actress Jane Lynch who will play Mother Superior.

AND

Just added to the film is Chicago native actress/singer Jennfier Hudson who will also play a nun.

The film, which is direcetd by the Farrelly Brothers will not be a biopic but three separate vignettes meshed into one movie. The film is currently filming in Atlanta will be in theatres in the summer of 2012.

Yeezy dropped her name in 'Dark Fantasy,' the opening track to his 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' album, when he spit, "I'm just a Chi-Town n---- with a Nas Flow, and my chick in the new Phoebe Philo."

Smith is the first artist to be released on Taylor’s label NOIVAK Music. On the show, Smith debuted his chart-topping iTunes single "Inked Up", during the live telecast.

THE BIG STL NEWZ THIS WEEK IS:

Beside the Nelly and Slim beef going on in the STl, the other big story was some of the St. Louis rams visiting tornado torn town Joplin, Mo. last Thursday. There were Rams quarterback Sam Bradford (PICTURED. Photo by Joplin Globe), offensive tackle Adam Goldberg, linebacker James Laurinatis, defensive end James Hall and center Jason Brown plus former Ram and New Orleans Saints tight end Ernie Conwell and DeMaurice Smith, the executive director of the NFL Players Association. They flew to Joplin and visited families staying in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center and Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium on the Missouri Southern campus. Then players and children reportedly went across the street to Fred G. Hughes Stadium where they threw the football around, posed for pictures and made public service announcements.

The Montford Pointe Marine
THRU - June 26, 2011

by Samm-Art Williams/ Directed by Ron Himes

He proudly served his country in WWII at Iwo Jima and after exiting the service trained as a classical opera singer. But his only shortcoming in life was separating from his wife, Gwen, when she refused to chase his dream of becoming a famous singer. With their only son R.C. in town to celebrate the anniversary of his father’s enlistment, this day brings a wave of memories back to Robert, along with a few unexpected turns in this World Premiere theatre event. For tickets go to http://www.theblackrep.org/
