OUT 838--ILLIMOBITZ

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!
ITS THURSDAY--
TIME TO GET TOWNED!
We continue our spotlight on African American ILLMOian music artists this month during Black Music Month with Chi-town based trio , The Emotions.

The Emotions are a Grammy Award winning American all female soul, disco, and R&B singing group. The group was formed in their current hometown of Chicago, Illinois in 1968, and originally consisted of the three Hutchinson sisters, Wanda, Pamela and Sheila, all the children of Joseph and Lillian Hutchinson.

As soon as the girls could talk, Father Joseph began teaching them music skills, and had them practice in the basement of their home on the south side of Chicago. When Sheila, the youngest, was five years old, they began singing in church choirs and were known as the Hutchinson Sunbeams.

In 1968, the girls changed their name to The Emotions, and released their first album, So I Can Love You, the following year. '

In 1971, the Emotions released Untouched, their second album, which featured hits such as "Show Me How" and "If You Think It". By 1976 and the Flowers album, they had hits "Flowers" and "I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love".

Their association with
Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire brought them their greatest success. With White's assistance, the Emotions released the albums Rejoice and Sunbeam in 1977 and 1978. Maurice White-co-produced with Clarence McDonald the single "Best Of My Love" spent five weeks at number-one on the US pop chart in 1977 (and winning a Grammy for Best R&B Duo, Group or Chorus with Vocals in 1978) . In 1978, the group collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire on another single, "Boogie Wonderland", which was a top 10 Grammy Award winning hit in 1979. The group continued to record together during the 1980s, and were signed briefly with Motown Records at one point. they had during the disco period.

The Emotions, today released their final album in 1996. They continue to perform and make personal appearances.).

Chitown made many of the newz items this week. The big A&E newz item is former Illinois Governor and reality show star Rod Blagoaveich’s corruption trial started Wednesday in Chicago. Blago is accused of trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat once he was elected into the Presidency in 2008.
Blagojevich, claims that he never stole a thing and his attorney who did the opening arguments in the trial (the same attorney who did the closing arguments in the R. Kelly trial) claims that the former governor is “broke” and surrounded himself with people that he just shouldn’t have trusted.
Blago faces 24 criminal charges, and is accused of considering taking campaign contributions from supporters of Jessie L Jackson, Jr in return for the Senate seat. If convicted, he faces 415 years in jail and $6 million in fines. Blago remains upbeat, and the Associated Press reports that he said he was excited to say “all the things I’ve been dying to tell you for the last year and a half”
In addition to Rod Blagojevich, Robert Blagojevich is also standing trial alongside his brother. He’s a Nashville area businessman who allegedly took part in the plot to sell Obama’s seat, plus shakedown a racetrack owner for a campaign contribution.

The trial could last up to four months. We will keep you informed of the breaking developments. Hmm,. What you think. You think Blago is going to face the maximum? We think not. We think Blago is going to take a plea deal for snitching on other folk a part of the corruption ring. Hmmm, but wouldn’t it be interesting with Senator Jesse Jackson and President Obama were subpoenaed to testify?

It was discovered that late Zion, Illinois native actor Gary Coleman wrote a final will and testament and named friend and former manager Dion Mial as executor of his estate, leaving Mial instructions on how he would like to be remembered, according to
The Associated Press.
A 1999 will filed in Provo, Utah, stated that Coleman wanted to be cremated and celebrated at a wake put together by people with no financial ties to the actor — people who "can look each other in the eyes and say they really cared personally for Gary Coleman." . Coleman also insisted that any press who reported on his legal, financial, health or marriage woes would not be allowed at his wake.

Coleman, who died in May after suffering a brain hemorrhage, did not name his ex-wife, Shannon Price(whom he did plan to remarry) , in the will, whom he met in 2006. Sheila Erickson, a rep for Price, told the AP that the 24-year-old former wife plans to meet with her lawyer to discuss whether she has any claim to the estate.

Funeral plans for Gary Coleman are "pending" more than a week after his death, but his parents have dropped their bid to have the actor's body returned to Chicago for burial, the man named as executor of his estate said last Saturday.

Coleman's ex-wife Shannon Price had previously announced a weekend service for Coleman, who died over a week ago after a fall at his Utah home.

Price "has absolutely no rights or authority, with regard to the disposition of Gary's remains, services, estate management," said Dion Mial, Coleman longtime friend and former manager.
"Plans for any services are pending, at this time," Mial said.

And what’s up with the pics that his ex-wife took of Coleman lifeless in a coma and life support in the hospital minutes before she pulled the plug and sold the pics to the Globe for more than $10,000. of her taking pics next to Coleman’s lifeless body in the hospital? If you haven’t seen them go to

Just Disturbing and disgusting!

In other Chi-town newz, rap superstar Kanye West's Porsche Panamera was stolen and totaled last weekend. The luxury vehicle was reportedly taken for a joyride, but ended up crashing into a multimillion-dollar house under renovation in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 5. No one was injured during the crash. Residents of the neighborhood reportedly said they heard the crash and witnessed three men running from the vehicle once it hit the house. Kanye, who's been in Hawaii recording his new album for the past several months, wasn't around during the time of the crash. Sources say the rapper left the Porsche in the care of his cousin. The car was reported stolen.
Hmm, sounds like the joyriders may have been kindling with the cuz and knew how to wire itup. A stehy say, watch the watchers.

In unrelated Kanye news, the rap superstar celebrated his b-day Tuesday. He’s 33.

Also, Prospect, Illinois native and
American Idol winner Lee Dewyze sang the national anthem at the NBA finals game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics in Los Angeles Sunday and from critics he butchered it horribly.
Speaking to The Boston Herald before his performance Lee said:

“It’s a huge responsibility but one I’m very happy to have.”
Later this week, DeWyze has signed a contract with 19 Recordings/RCA Records. He'll start recording his debut album in the near future; the label says it's scheduled for release in the fall. (Oh and forget that he had two indy albums he recorded way before Idol which we though disqualified contestants for not being a “new” artist.)

To see the video of DewYze singing the anthem, go to

And in the last of Chitown newz, this Monday was the premiere of the Seventh season of the NBC hit reality competition, “Last Comic Standing.” And they have a new host, Chitown native comedian/actor Craig Robinson (FAR LEFT)who’s one of the stars of the NBC hit sitcom, “The Office.” In the season opener three ILLIMO comics competed in the Los Angeles auditions. They were St. Louis native Guy Torry (MIDDLE PIC--Yes, he auditioned)and Chitown comics Lil Rel (FAR RIGHT) and Jimmy Dore. All three made it to the showcase round to perform before a live audience and to chosen by the judges to be in the semifinals. Torry and Lil Rel made it to the next round.

And for those who didn’t see Torry’s segment, they featured him at his house and how it looked after he split with his wife Monica Askew whom he divorced earlier this year(which was quite vacuous) and how he almost blew his audition as though he knew the judges were going to advance him to the showcase. That would have been embarrassing if he didn’t but luckily one of the comic judges recognized his talent and said he was better than his audition.

The big A&E stories in the STL were sports related.

First, after 16 seasons, former St. Louis Rams receiver Isaac Bruce announced his retirement at a 30 minute press conference in Rams Park on Wednesday.

Through tears and after two rousing applause moments from the crowd, Bruce said "Normally, I like to be prepared for everything. "I didn't prepare for these tears, so I didn't bring Kleenex or anything. Sixteen years was enough for me. I think a lot was done. But that second training camp practice may have played a part in it. I was ready to move on and do something else other than playing football."

The Rams will honor Bruce by retiring his No. 80 on Oct. 31 during a game against Carolina.

Bruce spent 13 of his 16 years as a ST. Louis Ram (his first year was with the Los Angeles Rams) and his final two seasons with San Francisco. He set every franchise receiving record. He's second in the NFL in career receiving yards with 15,208, tied for second in yards per catch (14.9), fifth in catches (1,024) and ninth in receiving touchdowns (91). He also helped the Rams win the Super Bowl in 2000.

It was speculated that Bruce could work with the Rams as a training camp consultant Spagnuolo may bring in Bruce as a consultant during training camp, but at the conference, Bruce said that his upcoming plans were to chill at home with his wife and baby daughter. He joked, "Right now, I'm calling myself a majority NFL owner. So don't be surprised."

"He was one of the guys, early in my career, that showed me what it meant to be an NFL player and how to work to become the best," former teammate Kurt Warner said in a statement.

In attendance of the conference were Head coach Steve Spagnuolo , ST. Louis Rams players Steven Jackson and James Laurinaitis, and former Rams player Demarco Farr .

We hear that he may go into the ministry. If he does, you know what his name will be,--Reverend Ike. LOL

Thanks for the years, Isaac.

In related Isaac Bruce newz, The Rams will provide each person who purchases a new 2010 season ticket from June 9-June 18 access on the field for the Isaac Bruce Retirement Ceremony during pre-game at the October 31 home game against the Carolina Panthers. Each person will receive one pre-game field pass per season ticket purchased (no limit per person). They will be allowed to go on the field during pre-game activities and stay on the field for the retirement ceremony. They will be notified no later than Friday, October 1st with instructions on where to pick up their pre-game field credentials the morning of the game. This offer runs until 5 pm on Friday, June 18.

The other sporting item was
the postponement (again) of the STL native boxer Corey Spinks’ fight with former “Contender” star Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage, which was scheduled for June 12, but was postponed last Wednesday, promoter Don King announced.
Spinks and Bundrage were due to meet at the Chaifetz Arena in Spinks’ hometown of St. Louis.

One of the reasons for the fight’s postponement was the event promoter Hot 104.1. recently announced its “Super Jam 3″ concert for the same day as the fight and King didn’t wantto compete with Superjam (Hmmm) that has the same urban market (double HMMM) and the boxing event was reliant on ticket sales because there was no television outlet.

Also, King is reportedly planning a higher-profile card in St. Louis on Aug. 7 on which junior welterweight Devon Alexander, of St. Louis, will defend his title against former titleholder Andreas Kotelnik on HBO.

King’s belief was that the two cards so close together would hinder ticket sales for Spinks- Bundrage in tough economic times (makes sense). It is likely that King will add Spinks-Bundrage to the Aug. 7 card, giving it three world title bouts. Light heavyweight titlist Tavoris Cloud is slated to defend his belt against former champ Glen Johnson in HBO’s co-feature. Spinks-Bundrage would not be televised domestically.

“Cory told me he has been receiving messages from his fans saying they were disappointed that they could not attend both events,” King said. “On top of that, I have now confirmed that I will be coming back to St. Louis with a world championship card in August, so it’s really not best to have two boxing events competing with each other in the same market.”
Refunds for tickets purchased for the June 12 card can be received from the original point of purchase, King said.

This is the second time the fight with Detroit’s Bundrage (29-4, 17 KOs) has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for March 26 in Las Vegas on an ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” card, but called off when the main event, a cruiserweight title bout between Steve Cunningham and Matt Godfrey, was scrapped.

Well it does makes economic sense we guess, but doesn’t boxing fans are more “grown ups” and Superjam cater to the youngsters? We are just saying. But hopefully the Spinks and Alexander bouts on August 7 will bring the hype to get the STL in the seats, cuz you knowhow STlers can get when events don’t come into fruition.

There are several nat’l entertainers who came through and are comin to the Lou this month and beyond.

Raunchy rapper Lil Kim will be at Home nightclub at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles June 18 as part of the club’s 5 Star Fridays event.

Reality show star Toya Carter will be at Club Envy June 10.

Two legendary divas of song came through the Lou two days apart at different venues but on the same street.

First, Liza Minnelli performed at the Powell Symphony Hall last Friday with the ST. Louis Symphony Orchestra, just a few blocks north of the Fox. From reports, Minnelli was bit disjointed and aloof and from reports, “ appeared to be struggling to walk, and her breaths were heavy. She spent much of her time sitting. After opening with “Sweetest Sounds” — during which she flubbed her entrance — and “Toot, Toot, Tootsie,” she left the stage and returned moments later wearing a pantsuit. Also, she was barefoot. “I have to be honest,” Minnelli later said. “I’ve got two false hips. I’ve got a shoulder that cracks. And I just had a knee replacement.” In addition, at one point, she said, “I’ll be right back,” instructed her pianist and longtime collaborator Billy Stritch to sing and exited stage right. And later, after delivering a heartfelt speech about love, Minnelli stopped herself. “I just did the wrong introduction,” she said. “Sorry, kids.”

Hmm, sounds like someone may have been dipping into some possible libations to numb the pain? Who knows.

The following nite, We hear that Diana Ross turned it out at the Fox Theatre with her fashions (nine dress changes) and medley of hits from the Supremes to “Upside Down” (and almost forgetting some of the lyrics to some of her hits) According to the Post Pop Critic Kevin Johnson, “Sure, Ross, discreetly stumbled during her grand entrance and later obviously missed a cue, but she was still the boss. In fact, she opened her 90-minute show with the disco-flavored "The Boss," rising up from beneath the stage in a lime-colored floor-length cape, which she flung to the floor to reveal the first of several sequined evening gowns.Ross didn’t spend any real time getting to know the audience with chit-chat. Instead, she stuck to business, first with a stream of Supremes hits including "Reflections," "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "My World is Empty Without You," while various images, including vintage clips of the singing trio, flew by behind her.”

Johnson said that she dedicated her tour to the late Michael Jackson, whom she helped to mentor when he was child, then performed her hit "Missing You," which “segued, a tad awkwardly, into Jackson’s "You Are Not Alone."

She also did her finale in her jogging outfit. Only Ms Ross can get away with that!

BLACK REP BITZ

The Me Nobody Knows, Music by Gary William Friedman, Lyrics by Will Holt June 2 - July 2, 2010 A compelling musical based on the anthologized writings of more than200 inner city youth collected by school teacher Stephen M.Joseph. At odds with a squalid setting and a cynical, materialistic view of the world, themes of hope and renewal emerged. For more information on any of these upcoming events contactThe BlackRep Box Office at (314) 534-3807.+
