OUT 737--STL TIDBITZ

HEY OUTTOWNERS! ITS WEDNESDAY--TIME TO GET "TOWNED!"

Before we get into the A&E that went down this week in the ILLI AND THE MO, we are introducing a new section of OUTTOWN called CELEB-SITE where we ask our fans, to give us the skinny on any celeb sightings in the ST. Louis area away from their habitats (eg. If you saw a singer in concert. Thats not scoop. If you saw them in the landromat. Thats scoop. Get what we sayin?).

This week, we got a tip from a reader that they spotted STL rapper Chingy (PICTURED ABOVE) at Brio’s Tuscan Grille at Plaza Frontenac last Sunday having some Italian eats with a young lady. Don’t know who the young lady was whether it was his boo or just a friend, but he was minding his business. It didnt seem like antyone recognized him but our source. After he and his lady friend ate and was preparing to vamp out, Chingy spoke to our source whom he knew and left out.

IF YOU GOT A CELEB SIGHTING, email us at maat.atkins@gmail.com!

IN THE newz this week: Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog got elected in the Baseball Hall of Fame this week . Herzog managed for 18 years, mostly with Kansas City (Royals) and St. Louis, winning six division titles, three pennants and the 1982 World Series for the
Cardinals. On his winning he was reported as saying, “Never did I dream in my life that I'd be a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. I'm very appreciative of this. It puts the icing on the cake. I got to manage good people." Also elected was former MLB umpire Doug Harvey.

St. Louis rapper/mogul had his 4th Annual Nelly’s Black and White Ball last Sunday at the Chase Park Plaza’s Khorassan Ballroom. The star studded event had a mix of national and local celebs who came through to the gala. The national celebs who attended were R&B singer Mario, who performed that night; producer Jermaine Dupri, comedian Bill Bellamy, Rachel Ray Show magician Justin Kredible and Jay Erving (Dr. J’s son and Mario’s manager), (scheduled R&B artist R&B singer Johnny Gill was a no show) . Other celebs included St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols, East St. Louis native/Olympic champ Jackie Joyner Kersee and St. Louis native boxer Cory Spinks. Of course, the St. Lunatics—Ali, Murphy Lee, Kyjuan and City Spud-- made their appearance at their band mates event.

Some of the local VIPs in the house were KTVI personality Larry Conners, Notifi Music’s label Bill and Ira DeWitt, author Lyah LeFlore, Delmar Loop mogul Joe Edwards, promoters Mocha Latte, Leata and Jacque Land, radio personalities Staci Static and Tammie Holland, and artists Coco Soul and Yung Ro.
It was hosted by Z 107 personality Curt Copeland. The dee-jay work came from DJ Charlie Chan and hypeman A.I. Brown.

At the Red Carpet, Nelly announced that he was he was introducing a new scholarship program for underprivileged and deserving students to go to Lindenwood University (one of the events; sponsors). He also said that he will release his 6th studio CD, “Nelly” the first quarter of 2010 for Universal.
FOR PICS GO TO OUT 735 and OUT 736 .

Kanye West

Common

Lalah Hathaway

In other music news, the 52nd Annual Grammy Award nominations were announed this week. On the ILLI and MO side we only found the artists in the bi-state who were nominated (so far). They are Chitown rapper Kanye West who received six Grammy Award nominations (two Rap Duo or Group nods - with YOUNG JEEZY for “Amazing” and with Kid Cudi & Common- for “Make Her Say”; three Best Rap/Sung Collaboration nods with Beyonce for, “Ego.; Keri Hilson, and Ne-yo for, “Knock You Down” and Jay-Z, and RIHANNA with “Run This Town,” and Best Rap Song- with Jay-Z and Rihanna for “Run This Town.” Chitown rapper Common got 2 nods, Rap Duo or Group (with Cudi and West) and Best Rap Album for “Universal Mind Control.” And Chitown native singer Lalah Hathway got a nod for Best R&B female Vocal for “That Was Then.” The awards will be presented Jan. 31 at Staples Center.

The St. Louis Cardinals are close to finalizing a one-year contract with starting pitcher Brad Penny reaching around $9 million. The pursuit of left fielder Matt Holliday is still pending as Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak is in pursuit of Plan B with utility starter Mark DeRosa in case Holliday decide to sign to another team during the arbitration period. But DeRosa's crew ain't waiting either.

In sports newz, for the third straight year, the Mizzou football team accepted a bid this week to the Texas Bowl to play Navy on Dec. 31. However form reports, MU coach Gary Pinkel and Mizzou administrators are not happy with the free-form system that allowed Oklahoma (7-5), Iowa State (6-6) and Texas A&M (6-6) to be awarded bowl assignments before MU (8-4).

St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho OJ Atogwe dislocated his shoulder in last Sundays game with the Chicago Bears and could get on the injured reserve list thus ending his season with the Rams. But let Atogwe sees it, he wants to continue to play and hold over the inevitable surgery that he will have to have. However, many radio heads are saying that Atogwe may have played his last game in St. Louis because he becomes a free agent next season.
Well we think it’s not worth it to continue playing and knowing the Rams are out of the playoffs and not prolong his injury.

Speaking of Rams, star running back Steven Jackson, who has been plagued with back spasms, was fined last Sunday after the Seattle game for 5 grand for throwing a ball into the stands. Jackson reportedly knew he was going to be fined but he reportedly said he just wanted to toss a present to the handful of fans who were still around at the end of the game which was blacked out from a TV broadcast due to low ticket sales.
Now that’s a class act—with money. LOL.

St. Louis Cards’ Albert Pujols is making newz outside of sports when styltoday.com reported that Pujols and his wife Deidre will renew their wedding vows for their 10 year anniversary on Dec 31 at Kansas City’s Westin Hotel.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Tonight, Wednesday, actor/comedian Tim Allen will be at the Ronnie’s 20 Cine at 5320 South Lindbergh Boulevard doing standup at 7:30 p.m. to promote his debut film as a director “Crazy on the Outside,” Allen is on a 10-city tour - the “Stand Up and Show It” tour - to promote the movie, which is set for release on Jan. 8. At each stop Allen will do stand up then show his film.

Award winning artist Jennifer Hudson has come under attack from a South African actors' union after she was cast as the ex-wife of the country's former president Nelson Mandela in a new biopic. The union insists that a local actress should have been cast as the title character in the movie.

Grammy award winning and 2010 Grammy nominated pop/hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas is gearing up for its world tour and the only date that they are performing in the ILLI and MO is Kansas City on March 24

Day 26 disclosed to MTV that they were no longer signed to P Diddy’s Bad Boy label. They are now signed to Atlantic Records exclusively. Bad Boy was distributed by Atlantic until P Diddy left them in the fall and inked a deal with Interscope. The group decided to stay with Atlantic to prove they are more than just TV stars and that they has no hard feelings toward P Diddy and wants the mogul to work with them on their 3rd CD.
Now why are we not supposed by all this?
Our question is, would Day26 still be with Bad Boy if Diddy didn’t go to Interscope? Well, if conventional wisdom is at play with the former Bad Boy artists who signed to the label not many went as far as the second album (yet alone the first!)

In other day 26 newz, looks like Day26 member and heartthrob (and married) Willie Taylor is back in the scandal seat yet again. According to MediaTakeout the singer is seen in some compromising photos(in which they posted) getting clothes burned with “I Love New York 2” winner Cocktail. Just earlier this year, Taylor’s pics from his phone were hacked and put on the Internet showing his penis.
Hmm, seems like someone is out to get Taylor but don't whoever it is know that controversy breeds success? Well let's hope it works for Day26!

Speaking of heartthrobs, sexy actor/model Boris Kodjoe will host Sutra Saturdays at Karma this Saturday (SEE MOCHA’s CORNER BELOW).

Have you all been hearing the radio commercial that St. Louis native, Emmy Award nominated actor Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame has out promoting his support of the ST. Louis Blues? The producers got him saying that he was such a die hard fan that he was thinking about naming his first child with Hall of Famer Brett Hull. And its evident he is a fan cuz based on Wikipedia, “He is an avid fan of the
National Hockey League (NHL) team, the St. Louis Blues, even appearing in two television spots advertising for the team.[“ We ve heard the radio ad played on 550 KTRS and 1120 KMOX.

J KWon

Jibbs

Truth Hurts

Billboard Magazine just came out with their list of the Top One Hit Wonders of the decade (Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” came in at No. 1) and three St. Louis native artists made the countdown. They were rappers J-Kwon (No. 11, with “Tipsy” 2004) and Jibbs (No. 31, with “Chain Hang Low” 2006) and singer Truth Hurts (No. 36, with “Addictive” 2002). They along with the other artisit who made it were defined as One Hit Wonders if they only had one huge hit or had one huge hit and their other hits didn’t make the Top 25 Hot 100. Oh, and the cut off year was 2007 just in case any of the potential one hit artists after 2007 may squeak in another hit in the next decade.

Well, with any poll, it always ring some kind of controversy, this one included. Of the three artists, Jkwon and Jibbs still have shots to get a hit (Truth Hurts we think was blackballed after her hit went through a bad copyright infringement lawsuit) on the Hot 100. Only time will tell.
+++++++++++++
And speaking of Jkwon he supposedly is producing a reality show called “I Work for J Kwon” (ala “I Wark for Diddy”) For more info on it go to http://stlhiphop.ning.com/profiles/blogs/bep-fucking-w-jkwon

Speaking of STL rappers, St. Lunatics’ MURPHY LEE will have an autograph signing for his new CD “You See Me” and DVD “Free” at Vintage Vinyl in the Delmar Loop Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. Also during the signing, there will be a toy drive for area children that Lee is a part of teaming up with two local charities to collect toys for the holidays to give to area children. On Tuesday, he was a guest on Channel 5 Morning News with anchor Art Holliday talking about the CD signing and toy drive, To peep the interview go to

According to the Evening Whirl St. Louis based Young Ro had a close call with his life last Sunday when he was a victim of a random act of violence when gunfire rang through near Club F15teen when he was passing out fliers for some of his live appearances (including the one he is doing this Friday at Black Label (see below) and Sunday at Successful with a tattoo party )
Accoridng to the Whirl, Ro was sitting in his car about to drive away when they heard shots. So, they “immediately schrunched down in our seats and heard blam, blam, blam, the next thing I know my ears popped and I heard ringing.” That’s when Ro discovered he was was shot when he touched his head and saw blood. So his friend rushed him to the hospital. It was found that the bullet just graced his head and that he was Ok, but he lost a lot of blood. (Evening Whirl photographer Hit Rod got a gruesome photo of Ro’s bloody gurney on the front page of this week’s Whirl).
He got on 104.1 Monday to tell folks that he was OK and that he wanted to raise awareness on gun violence in the community through his live appearances. And it was apparent that he was OK cuz he performed at Nelly’s Black and White Ball Sunday.
