DISH BITZ

This week dish is (Veggie) Lasagna

Lasagna [laˈzaɲɲe], is a wide and flat type of pasta and possibly one of the oldest shapes.[1]

There are three theories on the origin of lasagna, two of which denote an ancient Greek dish. The main theory is that lasagna comes from Greek λάγανον (laganon), a flat sheet of pasta dough cut into strips.[2][3][4][5

The other theory is that the word lasagna comes from the Greek λάσανα (lasana) or λάσανον (lasanon) meaning "trivet or stand for a pot", "chamber pot".[6][7][8] The Romans borrowed the word as "lasanum", meaning "cooking pot" in Latin.[9] The Italians used the word to refer to the dish in which lasagna is made. Later the name of the food took on the name of the serving dish. A third theory has been suggested[by whom?] that the dish is a development of the 14th century English recipe "Loseyn" as described in The Forme of Cury, a cook book in use during the reign of Richard II

THIS WEEK’s BIG A&E &STL STORY THIS WEEK IS:

President Barack Obama dropped into the STL this week for reportedly four hours Tuesday (while the Cards v Phillies Playoffs were going on at Busch stadium by the way) , speaking at two campaign fundraisers. Air Force One reportedly touched down in St. Louis around 5 pm., and the president was greeted by his Dems colleagues St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Gov. Jay Nixon (PICTURED with OBAMA).

At his first event, at the Renaissance Grand Hotel downtown, Obama spoke on his jobs plan and health care initiative.

"People call it 'Obamacare,'" the president said. "They're right, I do care."

Minutes into his speech, a heckler interrupted to ask the president if he would 'stop the pipeline."

Obama continued his speech, but then referred back to the heckler a few moments later saying "We've got a couple of people here who are concerned about the environment."

At his second fundraiser, it was more a private affair at U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan’s mansion, where his brother hosted the president's pricier fundraiser of the night at his house across from Forest Park. Dignitaries paid $25,000 per person for that event where he spoke for about 10 minutes.

At the private event, Obama reportedly said, "I know you guys have a little pull with at least one congressman named Carnahan."

A group of Tea Party protesters reportedly gathered at the park across the street but were not unruly and were kept behind a bike-rack barricade.

An added tidbit the fundraiser was catered by Pi Pizza, the President’s faveoite pizza when he came to St Louis in 2008 during his Presidential campaign and Schlafly brewing company dubbing its beer, Baracktoberfest

Now you tell me if he isn’t a rock star or not? You just gotta love it. Regardless of your political views, you gotta admit that he is definitely one of the most charismatic presidents since Clinton to draw such interest in folk pro and con!

In unrelated Obama newz, he and First lady Michelle celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.

Award winning and Chicago native talk show host and comedian Sherri Shepherd was in the newz this week over her disturbance of her boss The View host Barbara Walters use of the N word Tuesday on the show.

It started on Monday in regards t one of the Hot Topics involving N *ggerhead the name of a hunting camp used by Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry Whoopi Goldberg used the word first on Monday's broadcast while quoting presidential candidate Herman Cain. Walters repeated it in context of their conversation, though she told her co-hosts, "It's very hard for me to say. … The fact that I just said it now gives me chills."

But when Walters said the word, she drew a sharp rebuke from Shepherd.

"I didn't like the way you said it," Shepherd told her co-host. "I don't know if it's a semantics thing, but it's something that goes through my body."

Shepherd
has said publicly that she's been the victim of racially-motivated bullying.

"When I heard you say it, it was fine," Shepherd told Goldberg. "You said it a different way."

ABC repeatedly bleeped the word during the women's discussion.

Walters asked Shepherd point-blank if her objection was because Walters was white.

"Yeah, it's something about hearing you say it," Shepherd said. "I don't like it when you use the word. … When you say it, it's a different connotation."

Hmm. Shepherd is walking the racial lines on this one. Internet commentors are saying that she should be fired for her outburst on Wa Wa, but Shepherd is only expressing what many African Americans feel when white people use the N word. It has a provocative historical text that involves whites enslaving African Americans during the slave trade using that word and black people using the word to each other as reminders of what mental and physical torment they went through in that part of American history. In this highly sensitive world we live in, any racial slur garners controversy. We think it needs to be discussed and in a way Shepherd spoke up and took a stand of what she believed in and you can’t knock her for that.

Emmy Award winning actress and Plainfield, Ill native Melissa McCarthy wowed critics and audiences with her comedic talent on "Saturday Night Live" on October 2. Some fellow celebrities praised her bawdy performance.

Judd Apatow, who produced her film "Bridesmaids", tweeted, "I think Melissa McCarthy in the office with the balloons on SNL made me laugh harder than anything this year or decade. The stairs too." He referenced to the sketch in which the "Mike & Molly" star sexually harasses her co-worker (played by Jason Sudeikis) by riding and licking a horse balloon she says he gave to her (PICTURED).

"Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig was also tuning in the "SNL" episode last weekend, commenting, "Huge congrats to Melissa McCarthy for destroying on SNL last night. "

Another filmmaker who was enjoying McCarthy's jokes was Jon Favreau who wrote, "Now that's how you host SNL."

Fellow actress Christina Applegate gushed, "Melissa McCarthy was pure bliss hosting SNL last night. Way to go lady!!"

"Glee" actor Cheyenne Jackson who was among the audience shared, "At SNL watching Melissa McCarthy chug ranch dressing. Girl has no fear, and is such a sweetheart."

Samantha Ronson took to Twitter to say, "Melissa McCarthy is killing it on SNL. Maybe the best host I've seen?!?! Amazing!"

"Raising Hope" actress Shannon Woodward admitted, "I'm getting a six pack watching Melissa McCarthy on SNL. Incredible. I can't breathe."

Lady Antebellum who were tapped as musical guest that night chimed in, "@nbcSNL was a dream come true last night. the ranch dressing and office skit will go down in SNL history. Melissa McCarthy was genius. -ck,"

Award-winning comic book writer Brian Bendis tweeted, "is there an snl host who dove in head first harder and threw away the cue cards more brazenly than Melissa mccarthy?"

McCarthy opened "SNL" by warning her two children to go to sleep because "mama's about to get pretty inappropriate". She then brought along her "Bridesmaids" co-star Kristen Wiig to break into a song and dance routine. She additionally appeared as Linda, one of three Hidden Valley Ranch taste testers, and sabotaged fellow tester Sue (played by Abby Elliott) before pouring an entire bottle of Ranch dressing on herself.

Yes, we must say that her performance was memorable and was the highest rated show so far this season. She is on a roll with the Emmy win last month and now her hosting duties on SNL. Although some critics say her performance was more sight gags than material, she basically played up on her jaw dropping scene stealing performance in “Bridesmaids.” The way she is going, McCarthy is slowly becoming a superstar!

Chicago bred rap superstar Kanye West officially debuted his new design line for women KW last Saturday during Paris Fashion Week.

DW looks ranged from binding leather pants and dresses, to pops of orange color and beaded prints. Another weird look on several of the models were shoes reminiscent of giant stretched marshmallows lashed together. Fur was also present, but not as noticeable as the multiple low-cut tops.

Attending were singer Ciara *(who also modeled in Ye’s show), Jennifer Hudson, . Lindsey Lohan, the Olsen Twins, and designers Alexander Wang and Joseph Altuzarra.

Hunky actor Eddie Cibrian was hurt Tuesday night on the Chicago set of The Playboy Club, according to a report, adding injury to insult on a day when NBC canceled the much-maligned period drama.

He was taken to
Northwestern Memorial Hospital. No other details were available.

In related Ced newz, he is about to shoot a spinoff seris from his guest appearance as a minister on the hit TV Land sitcom, “Hot In Cleveland” . Cedric , who played a minister on an episode back in August, was coaxed in the role by “Cleveland” creator Suzanne Martin who pushed the guest role as a backdoor pilot in the hopes the episode would go over well. According to Deadline, the plan panned out,.

Cedric’s character the Reverend Boyce first appeared in an episode of Hot in Cleveland where Elka (White’s) plans to get married. Instead of remaining in Cleveland, the potential spinoff story will follow the Reverend Boyce as he heads to St. Louis (his raised up real town) where he must deal with his family and a full congregation. A storied past will also play prominently into plot. Cedric will exec produce. Production is slated to begin on Dec. 2

And in more Ced newz, Cedric’s directorial debut “Dance-Fu” a spoof of dance movies hit DVD shelves this week. The comic look at the ubiquitous spate of dance-themed films is Cedric’s directorial debut and also stars Affion Crockett, Tommy Davidson and Kel Mitchell(PICTURED with CEDRIC) . Cedric says he shot the movie in 16 days on a shoestring budget or, he joked, by “trading in my Blockbuster and Wal-Mart discount coupons.”

The plot is When Chicago Pulaski Jones(played by Cedric) wants to avenge the death of his uncle, killed by the crime kingpin Pretty Eyed Willie, he has to rely on his dancing skills because he has no other skills. In his quest for vengeance he’ll incorporate those dancing skills into a new style of martial arts.

Oscar nominated and Chicagoan Terrence Howard is expected to visit Zimbabwe after he expressed interest in developing Zimbabwean film industry according to reports. Howard, who recently met youthful Harare businessman Chamu Chiwanza in London, said the revival of the film industry needed the support of everyone.

Chiwanza indicated that there were plans to bring Howard to Zimbabwe for a working visit.

In unrelated Howard newz, the actor left an angry voicemail on a prankster's phone according to newz reports. The message was recorded late August and began with Terrence apparently identifying himself before venting his anger, Radaronline.com report.

In the voicemail, he said: 'N**ga, you been calling my wife... If you call my wife again I'm going to come to your house and I'm going to cut your f***ing throat.' Understand that. I'm gonna tell you this one time. You call my wife again, I'm going to kill you.'

The website's source said that five days earlier, a female friend had used his phone to leave a message on what she believed to be Howard's personal line.

This friend had been given the digits by another party, and after a drinking session they decided to make a prank call to the star, not realising the number was attached to his wife, Michelle Ghent.

The anonymous insider explained: 'Her phone was dead, so she used mine and left about a three-minute voicemail professing her love for him.'

'But apparently the call was made to his wife's phone, not his. I'm assuming she got the voicemail of my friend gushing about Terrence and questioned him about it.'

But on September 7, Howard called the source to apologise.

'I'm so sorry for calling you and speaking that way, 'I thought you were somebody that's been harassing my wife. Please forgive me.'

Howard also followed up with a text, which read: 'My wife told me that she was receiving obscene text from you and that she was being harassed. Therefore I responded with the protective nature that a husband has for his wife.'

'Forgive me for the anger, but as you are watching over your girl friend, I too am devoted to my love

Hmm, well hey he did what any red blooded husband would do to defend his loved one. But it is kinda telling on Howard’s character and how he really is.

St Louis blues owner Dave Checketts has a verbal agreement to sell the majority stake in the team to Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer, according to multiple reports.

In addition, a non-binding term sheet has been drafted on the sale of the Blues to Hulsizer, according to a TSN report. The term sheet outlines the price of a purchase agreement, key provisions and the fact that Hulsizer will assume controlling interest if the deal closes, according to TSN. There is no time frame for the deal, but TSN reports that Hulsizer would like to close a deal as soon as possible.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Checketts has signed a letter of intent and the deal is believed to be with Hulsizer.

Checketts could remain with the Blues in some capacity. However, the deal is far from being completed. A deal would not be official until the sides enter into a purchase agreement and have that approved by the NHL.

The St. Louis Blues have been available for sale since mid-March after Checketts announced that he and TowerBrook Capital Partners, the top investor in the club currently, could not reach an agreement on a price for TCP’s 70-percent stake in the franchise.
