HELLO OUTTOWNERS!

AND NOW TO THE A&E NEWZ FROM THE ILLI AND MO:

The big entertainment newz story was mos definitely was the Michael Jackson memorial that was held Tuesday at the Staples Center in L.A. where his golden casket was wheeled for the services where thousands attended. Those who performed and participated included
(a very pregnant) Chicago native Jennifer Hudson (PICTURED who performed Jackson’s song, “ Will You Be There”) as well as Mariah Carey,Lionel Richie Stevie Wonder (highlight), Usher (another highlight) John Mayer, and Jermaine Jackson. Eulogizers included Queen Latifah (who read the poemWE HAD HIM written for the occasion by St. Louis native Maya Angelou) , Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson (who read telegrams by non attendees nelson Mandela and Diana Ross) , Rev. Al Sharpton (highlight), Brooke Shields, Kobe Bryant and Majic Johnson and Jackson’s brother and daughter Marlon and Paris (another highlight). In attendance were Justin Timberlake; Gladys Knight; Lil Kim, LisaRaye, Kyla Pratt, and Chris tucker. It was reported that over 6 BILLION people viewed the event either on TV or on the Net (OUTTOWN followed it via facebook and CNN. Com). The event fell also on the day that Jackson was supposed to begin his final tour This IS IT iat O2 Arena in London. There, it was reported this week that a second memorial will be scheduled for Jackson on the singer’s 51st birthday on Aug. 29.
We are sure we speak for everybody who are MJ fans, that this is still hard to process that he has left this Earth and that this will be the talk of the world forever and forever. Later on YOURS TRULY, MA;at Atkins will give his memories of the King of Pop.

And speaking of baseball, we totally went under the radar and didn’t realize that recently signed Cardinals player Brian Barton was no longer playing with Cards . He was traded at the beginning of this season. Barton made the Cardinals' big-league roster and made his debut last April . On April 20 of this year, Barton was traded to the
Atlanta Braves for relief pitcher Blaine Boyer.

On Sunday. MediaTakeOut.com reported that Chicago based rapper Kanye West and his former mentor Jay Z reportedly got into a screaming match backstage at London's Wireless festival in the UK. According to one of MediaTakeOut.com's snitches, Kanye was scheduled to close the show and he wanted to bring Jay Z out with him. But the snitch claimed that Jay wanted to close the show himself. The two reportedly got into a "heated" screaming match which ended with Jay Z leaving the arena without performing. Hmm, we wonder of it ha dto do anything with Jay Z releasing his latest single, “Death of the Autotune” knowing that Kanye’s last CD, “Heartbreak and 808s’ was Autotuned driven. (He also worked with Autotune king T-Pain on his last CD "Graduiation" on the Grammy winning tune, "Good Life." ) So, who knows.

MJ BITZ. Now as I gather my thoughts about the earthly passing of Michael Jackson. I reflect on four memory moments of the King of Pop.

My first early memory was when I was a preteen and I bought the “Off the Wall” album. As a child, many people said I looked liked him when he was a child. Well, maybe that was my first attraction to the singer, but I was enthralled as with many others on Michael when ‘Off the wall’ was released in 1979. I recall during Christmas of 1979, my nuclear family traveled to Pine Bluff, Ark to visit my maternal grandmother. Well, I brought the Off the wall and played it over and over on my g-mom’s very huge stereo player. I would open up the album where when you open it , it had a full body image of Jackson in a black suit, Afro, and those white glowing socks. I would look at the album cover for hours while playing the album (I even took a Polaroid picture of it crazy as I was back then.) It was during one of those record playing sessions, where some of my cousins came to the house. I had lied the album upright next to one of the big beds in one of the three bedrooms and one of my girl cousins accidentally fell toward it and ripped it in the middle of the album. I was crushed. So, I got some black tape and tried taping the middle portion of the album and still stood it up so I could see his full body shot as I played the album over my grandmoms house with tape at his midsection. LOL.

The second was during a family reunion in 1983 when Thriller was the hottest album out there. At one of the community centers in Pine Bluff, Ark, we had a dance and the dee-jay played, “Billie Jean” and my family members started to form a Soul train line. Well, with my being a good dancer then, I decided to do the Moonwalk on my turn going down the line and I was the highlight of the reunion.

The third was seeing MJ in concert with my high school girlfriend at the Checkerdome in 1988 during his Bad tour. It was during when he was supposed to perform for three nite sstraight and he was ill with the flu. He canceled the first night I think, performed at the second (which I attended) and cancelled the third to make up for the first nite. I was in the nosebleed seats, but I was there to experience the Magic of Michael as I kept shouting out, “Sing Man In the Mirror”’ (This was after he performed at the Grammys and did his now electric set of “The Way You make me Feel and “Man in the Mirror”)

And lastly, when I co-produced the fashion show production “LeDragvaganza’ in 2002 with the late poet/attorney Sheryl Johnson at her gallery Hatshepsut Studio/Art Gallery that was locate don 12th and Washington in downtown STL. One of the scenes was a model modeling an ensem under Michael’s song, :”butterflies.” She was not comfortable with her routine she choreographed for some reason, so at the day of the show, I decided to do a Michael Jackson routine with white shirt, black fedora, and black hot water pants and black church shoes. LOL. From what people told me, it was one of the highlights of the show as I morphed into Michael doing his infamous dance moves and his 360 robot turn.

And those were my four Michael memories.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ at the Michael Jackson Memorial. Why did Mariah Carey wear that low cut dress at the funeral? And why was she s hoarse when she was singing? Why were those interpretive dancers circling around Jennifer Hudson when she was singing? Why did Magic Johnson promote KFC during his tribute to Michael Jackson? Why was Kobe Bryant even up onstage to say anything about Michael? Why did Usher walk down to Michael’s casket to sing ? Why were Michael’s kids chewing gum in the audience? Why did someone in the crowd shout out, “Sing Billie Jean?” And why did we think Michael’s casket was empty so he could be buried privately while the ceremony was going on?

The extremely diverse and talented team behind Streetballers is and will be the key to all future success. We are young artist driven by love, loyalty and friendship. We have toured the U.S. and won numerous awards through festivals. We have turned down traditional distribution outlets and decided to self-distribute the film utilizing DCI compliant technology (Digital Projection). In Saint Louis, we set two records. The highest rated film in the history of the Saint Louis International Film festival (beating Oscar winning and nominated films Juno, The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire) and also the highest attendance record selling out the day before each screening.

We are looking to release the film in Saint Louis on August 21st we would like to stagger the release in other cities to late September/early October and try to release in conjunction with the LeBron James documentary being released by Lions Gate. Directed by St. Louis bred Matthew Scott Krentz, who also co-stars, Streetballers hit the festival circuit in June 2008, making its World Premiere at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. It has gone on to play in Saint Louis, Detroit, New York City, Nashville, North Carolina, and Philadelphia, winning multiple awards such as Best Dramatic Feature, an Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and a Second Place Jury Award for Best Feature Film.
The Streetballers team has attached the popular indie shoe company, Greedy Genius
http://www.greedygenius.com/ to create and distribute the official Streetballers shoe, at Finish Line stores this fall. We have also attached three platinum hip-hop artist to the soundtrack and will be shooting the music video this spring to help promote the film and the soundtrack (SEE STL TIDBITZ ABOVE FOR THAT INFO) .

Just over a month ago, Streetballers writer/director/producer/co-star Matthew Krentz signed with APA and Leverage Management. A portion of the proceeds from the soundtrack will be donated to several different charities. As we mentioned above the team is comprised of loyal, hardworking and loving artists who are dedicated to reaching up, reaching out and giving back to the St.Louis community.
We realize and embrace our roles as mentors. We except that responsibilty, while challenging ourselves to be the best rolemodels we can be,we stress education;because without education would not be where we are today. The Streetballers team has an extremely popular film, with a ton of street credit, and has developed a tremendous theatrical strategy of releasing the film in theatres across the U.S. with the Streetballers producer/actors and director touring with the film. For more info go to www.streetballersthemovie.com

KMJM personality Tammi Holland sent OUTTOWN an uplifting email from dress collector Tracie Ousley. It reads:There have been a lot of parents that have lost their jobs and have daughters that may not be able to participate in a day that you can never get back, their senior prom. I was sitting at home one evening and was thinking,” what can I do to make a difference.” As I was going through my closet, I came across some formal dresses that I had from either weddings or formal events, it struck me. “I can start a collection and give back to the community.” So I called a girlfriend of mine and she thought that this was a wonderful idea.
