Legendary musician Miles Davis
Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American trumpeter, bandleader, and composer.
Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was, with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion.
Miles Davis was born on
By age 16,
Davis began playing professionally, performing in several 52nd Street clubs in NYC. A contract with Capitol Records in 1949 granted several recording sessions including the 1956 album, Birth of the Cool, who’s title gave its name to the "cool jazz" movement that developed at the same time and partly shared the musical direction begun by Davis' group.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Davis recorded a series of albums including the soundtrack to the movie Pr\orgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain (1959–1960) and what is widely considered his magnum opus, Kind of Blue.
Davis' influences included late-1960s acid rock and funk artists such as Sly and the Family Stone,James Brown, and Jimi Hendrix,[4] In 1970, he recorded the double LP Bitches Brew, which became a huge seller.
In 1986, he took part in the Artists United Against Apartheid recording, “Sun City” and Davis signed with Warner Brothers and recorded, Tutu (1986), and won him his 4th Gramy Award in 1987(He’s won eight altogether, two posthumously). His last recordings, both released posthumously, were the hip hop-influenced studio album Doo-Bop and Miles & Quincy Live at Montreux, a collaboration with Quincy Jones for the 1991 Montreux Jazz Festival in which Davis performed the repertoire from his 1940s and 1950s recordings for the first time in decades. He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990. Miles Davis died on
Chicago reared rap superstar Kanye West performed with headliner Rihanna at this year’s NBA All Star Game’s halftime show held last Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.Dripping in gold chains, a red-clad Kanye West came out for "All of the Lights," which is off his latest album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” In related Ye newz, he quietly dropped his music video for "All of the Lights" -- in which Rihanna is featured in a revealing black top. Hype Williams directed the five-minute strobe lit video that pays homage to French director Gaspar Noe's drug-fuelled psychedelic melodrama "Enter the Void," in which West sings about a father who abuses his daughter's mother and ends up in the slammer. West then jumps on top of a cop car in between scenes of a little girl walking the streets of the city alone. Rihanna sports a black Herve Leger-style top, with thin strips covering her chest as she writhes for the camera. Rapper Kid Cudi then shows up in a bright red jacket for his solo as Kanye West dances on top of police cars. The news catcher is West only announced the video's release, which was filmed last month, about an hour before its debut last Saturday, according to mtv.com.

Although he may not have been the big winner at this year’s Grammy Awards,
VH1′s Emmy-nominated series Behind the Music launches STL bred hip-hop superstar, Nelly. In the upcoming special, Nelly talks about the ups and downs of his decade-long music career, including his relationship with singer Ashanti, who also sat down for an interview. He also publicly addresses for the first time the death of his sister, Jackie, who died in 2005 from Lukemia at the age of 31. EW has an exclusive first look at Nelly discussing the pain he suffered over his sister’s death and how it affected him while he was on the road touring. “Nobody wanted to tell me how severe and how close things had gotten,” he says in the clip. “She wasn’t telling me the truth, and everyone around her that knew wasn’t telling me that, ‘Yo, she’s not gonna make it.’” Nelly recounts how he was the last one to speak to Jackie before she died, and how he went into a tailspin after he heard the news, splitting a door in half and shatter a television screen in rage. “I just broke down, yo, in one of the rare moments I did cry.” He also talks about the ups and downs of his music career.

American Idol fave Oak Forest, Ill. native Chris Medina shockingly didnt adavnce to the Top 24 during part one of Hollywood Rounds 4 on Wednesday. The world fell in love with him when the show told the story of him taking care of his fiance Juliana Ramos who is suffering form a brain malady after a car accident. The elimination caused judge Jennifer Lopez to have an emotional breakdown. (But we get a feeling he will return in a wild card round. )
ADD: Hailey Reinhart of Wheeling, Ill and Tatynisa Wilson of Aurora, Ill. both made the Top 24
as it was revealed Thursday on Part 2 of Hollywodo Round 5.
St. Louis Cardinal slugger Albert Pujols reported to Jupiter , Fla. last Thursday for Spring Training and of course, it was a media frenzy to get the first words of Pujols in reagrd sto the negotiantions between he and the Cardinals organization not falling through after the deadline to extend it passed.
Pujols insisted that he and his agent, Dan Lozano, would not attempt to restart talks during the upcoming season. On Wednesday Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak insisted the organization would honor Pujols’ deadline and not approach him about an extension either during spring training or the season. The stance suggests Pujols is virtually certain to reach free agency this November.
“I’m not disappointed, man. It’s negotiations and it happens,” Pujols said. “Two sides didn’t get together on an agreement. That’s the way it goes. You can’t get disappointed. You know why? Because I still have another chance after the season and maybe we’ll get something done then.”
“If that’s the way they want to take it, they can take it,” Pujols said. “I can’t judge what people think. All I can do is get ready for baseball and that’s it.”
Describing Thursday’s scene as “a zoo,” Pujols said the significance of recent talks had been blown out of proportion.
“We’re not going to talk about the contract through the media,” he said. “Even if it gets to the offseason, we’re not going to talk to the media. I know both sides well. There are no hard feelings.”
TIED AS THE BIG STL STORY:
Adam Wainwright, the St. Louis Cardinals’ ace, projected opening-day starter and two-time Cy Young Award contender, will receive a second opinion on Thursday after an initial exam found enough damage to a ligament near his right elbow to suggest surgery that would put him out for this season and a large part of 2012.
The injury is believed related to a forearm issue that led to Wainwright being sidelined after he gained his 20th win last September and, according to general manager John Mozeliak, may be traced to ligament problems in 1998 and 2004.
Ligament replacement (Tommy John surgery) would cost the 29-year-old Wainwright this season and probably a significant portion of 2012. It could also make him a free agent because if he were on the disabled list with an arm injury at the end of 2011, the Cardinals could nullify his recent contract option for 2012-13.
Wainwright apparently suffered additional damage to his right ulnar collateral ligament Monday while throwing live batting practice. He awoke from a nap later in the day experiencing discomfort and contacted team trainers that night.
Mozeliak said the pitcher felt a tug on one of his final offerings but offered no complaint as he left the field. Pitching coach Dave Duncan saw nothing unusual and thought Wainwright sharp for so early in camp.
Former St. Louis Rams guard and La Marque football all-star Claude Terrell is accused of beating and forcing sex on a Texas City woman at gunpoint during a seven-hour ordeal. Terrell, who released by the Rams in 2007 after his arrest on charges of assaulting his wife, was arrested Monday night in

St.Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho”OJ” Atogwe Even was released Friday by the Rams, but in an interesting twist he says he hasn't closed the door on a possible return to the team.
"My agent and myself have established a really good negotiating relationship with them, so were we to do something again (with the Rams), I don't believe it'd be a difficult task," Atogwe told the Post-Dispatch. "Because there's no bad blood there. We should be able to get something done."
The only problem — for several years — has been agreeing on Atogwe's value in terms of a multi-year deal. Rather than pay an $8 million roster bonus that was due Atogwe on Monday, the Rams released the six-year veteran.
"It's disappointing to be back in this situation, again," Atogwe said. "Not being able to actually be set at this point in time in my career — it's disappointing."
The relative security of a long-term contract has proven frustratingly elusive for Atogwe, a third-round round pick out of Stanford in 2005.
