++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

BEFORE WE GET INTO THE REGULAR A&E NEWZ:

We recently loss a legend in the music game from the ILLI MO area.

Chitown native Albertina Walker, a Grammy-winning singer known as the "Queen of Gospel," died last Friday from respiratory failure at age 81 at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago. As a young woman, she formed her own gospel group, the Caravans, and was a protege to gospel star Mahalia Jackson. She began singing in the youth choir at the West Point Baptist Church at an early age, and joined several Gospel groups thereafter, including The Pete Williams Singers and the Robert Anderson Singers. Albertina was greatly influenced by Mahalia Jackson, her friend and confidante. Mahalia Jackson took her on the road when she was just a teenager.

In the early 1950s Walker founded her own Gospel music group The Caravans, enlisting fellow singers from The Robert Anderson Singers (Ora Lee Hopkins, Elyse Yancey and Nellie Grace Daniels). The Caravans' membership has included: James Cleveland, Bessie Griffin, Shirley Caesar, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, Loleatta Holloway, Cassietta George, and Delores Washington. Her discovery of these artists resulted in the nickname "Star Maker". Walker retired The Caravans in the late 1960s, performing as a solo artist.

In the mid 1970s, Walker signed with Savoy Records then Benson Records, Word Records, A&M Records, and other record companies, recording a series of solo projects, many of them with big church choirs including The Evangelical Choir, The Cathedral of Love Choir, The Metro Mass choir, and her own church choir, The West Point Choir. Albertina recorded her first solo project Put a Little Love in Your Heart in 1975. She also recorded several projects together with Reverend James Cleveland. To date, she has recorded over 60 albums, including gold selling hits "Please Be Patient With Me", "I Can Go to God in Prayer", "The Best Is Yet to Come", "Impossible Dream", and "Joy Will Come". These albums have yielded multiple Gold records and Grammy nominations.

Walker sang for United States presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, and South Africa's president, Nelson Mandela. In 1995, Walker joined Thelma Houston, CeCe Peniston, Phoebe Snow and Lois Walden to record a gospel album in common, Good News in Hard Times, as the quintet called The Sisters of Glory.

Walker recorded a reunion album with her group The Caravans entitled Paved the Way, which was released by Malaco Records on September 5, 2006. Performers included Walker, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, and Delores Washington. The album was dubbed by Billboard magazine as one of the most memorable releases of 2006[3] and entered the Billboard charts in the top ten and remained in the top forty for sixteen weeks. Paved the Way was recently nominated for a Grammy, Dove, Soul Train Music Award and two Stellar Awards.

Albertina earned many awards and honors over her six decades of music ministry. Among them, a 1995 Grammy Award for the Best Traditional Gospel Album (Songs of The Church); 10 Grammy Award nominations; 5 Gold Records; 3 Stellar Awards; 3 Dove Awards; several Gospel Music Workshop of America Excellence Awards; an induction into the 2001 Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee.

In 2005, the Grammys honored her contributions to the Gospel music industry. She was also the recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship. President George Bush honored Albertina Walker for her contribution to Gospel music May 31, 2002.

Walker was lifelong Chicago resident and member of the West Point Baptist Church.

Here is information for Walker's visitation and funeral.

In related newz, President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama made a statement about Albertina Walker’s passing:

" Michelle and I are saddened by the passing of gospel great Albertina Walker. Ms. Walker was known for her Grammy Award winning voice and recognized by many as the ‘Queen of Gospel.’ Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, she started singing in her church youth choir at just four years old where she learned to spread the ‘Good News’ through song.

"She also performed before President Bill Clinton and was honored at the White House by President George W. Bush for her contributions to Gospel music. And she never forgot to give back, impacting her community through the Albertina Walker Scholarship Fund and many other charitable endeavors. Ms. Walker’s voice and message has touched congregations across the nation. Though we have lost an American icon, her influence on gospel music will continue for generations. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the countless lives she touched. "

THE BIG A&E STORY IN THE AREA THIS WEEK is:

It was reported by TMZ last week that Chitown talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey spent last weekend with Katherine and Joe Jackson, the parents of the late music icon Michael Jackson in Encino, Calif. for a taping an episode on her daytime talk show.
Production trucks were reportedly spotted on the Jackson compound.
So far, no announcement has been made regarding the date when the episode may air. In fact, Oprah is yet to confirm she’s met with the Jacksons to tape it, so it might be another while before it comes out.

In related newz, it was reported that The King of Pop's youngest brother Randy Jackson is upset that his parents allowed Oprah onto the complex and that Winfrey is the last person Michael Jackson would have wanted around his kids.

He vented in a series of posts on Twitter on Wednesday. He said: "I know how Oprah feels about my brother and family." He noted that when the jury was deliberating Michael Jackson's fate on child molestation charges in 2005, Winfrey did a show on pedophilia. Randy Jackson said it wasn't a coincidence.

Randy Jackson added he disagrees with his parents allowing the interview but still loves them.

We think Randy is really stretching for publicity dont cha think?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In unrelated O newz, and speaking of being upset, she is highly P.O.d that the former headmistress at her South African school for girls was acquitted for any wrongdoing at the school. She was accused of abusing teenagers at Oprah Winfrey's school for girls and Winfrey said she was "profoundly disappointed" by the trial's outcome.

Prosecutors had accused former school matron Tiny Virginia Makopo of trying to kiss and fondle girls at the school soon after it opened in 2007 outside Johannesburg.

Makopo also had been accused of assaulting one of the teens, as well as a fellow supervisor.
Mthunzi Mhaga, a spokesman for South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority, said yesterday that Makopo had been acquitted of the charges and that prosecutors wouldn't appeal.

Winfrey had called the allegations crushing, given her own stated history of childhood sexual abuse, and promised an overhaul of the school.

+++++++++++++++
Speaking of filing suits on the Big O, the case involving an ex-flight attendant on Oprah’s private jet who claimed Oprah is racist, Gayle King had sex with pilot, and that Oprah binges on drugs.
According to National Inquirer, the sensational court papers contain charges that on a 2008 flight on Oprah’s jet, King slept with a male flight attendant.

Myron Gooch: “On that flight, as the jet was traveling from the Canary Islands to Chicago, Gooch accepted King’s offer to share the jet’s double bed with her.
“Winfrey knew of, but did nothing about, this highly intimate and un-professional flight conduct by Gooch.”'

The flight attendant responded to the charges – confirming to the court that he had indeed shared the sleeping accommodations with King – but he maintained that nothing improper took place.

The court records, filed in Chicago, also reveals a racist streak: “Winfrey commented…’white folks don’t know what southern food should taste like’.”

Top New York defense attorney Bruce Baron believes Oprah will have to pay to keep flight attendant Gehrls from exposing more secrets.

“She will try to have the case settled as soon as possible because of what is known as the ‘fear factor.’ As a person who clearly values her privacy, Oprah would hate to see embarrassing details revealed about her. As a flight attendant working on her private jet, the plaintiff would have been privy to what she did and said. It could be very damaging to Oprah.”

The suit also alleges Oprah bullies her employees and guzzles sleeping pills.

We are sure Oprah is be OK from these allegations. Doesn’t she have enough money to buy the word silence anyway? LOL

Doloth, Ill. native and Emmy Award winning star of :”Glee” Jane Lynch got high marks for hosting and her skits on last Saturdays Saturday Night Live.
The 50-year-old actress, who plays mean-spirited Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester in the show, got buff in one sketch where she played a creepy therapist who ended up naked in front of her client, played by regular cast member Andy Samberg.
She also dressed up as a saucy ice cream vendor, wearing a black bra and bow tie - and at one point fed Samberg an ice lolly.
Jane even poked fun at the all-singing, all-dancing show alongside the rest of the SNL cast as they took part in a parody of it.
She even gave castmate Kristine Wiig a run for her money in sketches including Password.

St. Joseph. Mo native and award winning rapper Eminem also made newz being on TV when he got interviewed by TV journalist Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes” Sunday. There, he talked about his parenting and family life. In the interview, he said that he banned cursing in his house, can’t understand why his father walked out on his family when he was an infant, won’t neglect his children akin to his father,
He said: "I never knew him, never met him, never knew him. I don't know if I want to see him. Some people ask me that, and I don't think I do.

The hip-hop superstar has a 14-year-old daughter Hailie, his child with ex-wife Kimberley Scott, and two adopted girls Alaina, the child of Kimberley's sister, and Whitney - Kimberley's daughter from a previous relationship.

He is also the legal guardian of his younger half-brother Nathan.

Eminem also talked about being bullied while in school because he moved around so much.He explained: "I would change schools two, three times a year and that was probably the roughest part. I got beat up in the bathroom, beat up in the hallways, shoved in the lockers, just, for the most part, being the new kid."

Lastly, he spoke on hip-hop and race. He felt that he may be singled out for the language used in his lyrics because of his race, since there are other hip-hop artists who use similar words that don't garner as much attention.

In unrelated Em newz, he, along with country duo Lady Antebellum led nominees for the 38th annual American Music Awards with five nods each as they were announced Tuesday. Nominees were selected based on chart ratings for sales and radio and Internet play. The American Music Awards will be presented Nov. 21 at the Nokia Theatre and broadcast live on ABC.

In more unrelated newz, Eminem's publisher, Eight Mile Style, is
suing Apple for $2.2 million for unpaid money in iTunes downloads and attorney fees. Aftermath Records was also named as a defendant.The company and Apple reportedly settled a lawsuit over royalties a couple of years ago for $2 million, but they say Apple never paid up. The dispute in the original lawsuit was to determine if Aftermath and Eight Mile reportedly ever gave copyright licenses to allow digital downloads through iTunes.

Chitown rapper Kanye West filmed cypher for BET Hip Hop Awards with his G.O.O.D. Music artists was broadcast for the awards show which aired Tuesday on the network. Filmed in France and all dressed in black tuxes and white shirts (Ye had on white sneaks), Ye and his crew ‘s filmed cipher was presented last in the show (and NON arguably the best one)Along with Ye were Chitown native rapper/actor Common, Pusha T, Big Sean, and CyHi Da Prynce. In unrelated newz, his single, “Runaway” with Pusha T is the Hot Shot Debut song on Billboard Hot 100 this week coming in at No. 12.

Abdominal pain and other physical symptoms resulted.Doctors have recommended a month of rest, which Muti has begun at his home in Italy.The 69-year-old Muti was scheduled to conduct fall concerts from Sept. 19 to Oct. 17. He is still scheduled to return for a winter series Feb. 3 through Feb. 19.

Grammy Award winning Chitown singer/prodcuer R Kelly’s latest single, the 50s throwback "When a Woman Loves”off from his latest CD Love Letter is spending its 3rd week in the Top 40 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop charts moving up from No. 34 to No. 28.

St. Louis based rap mogul Nelly has hinted at plans to perpetuate his controversial adult-themed 2003 "Tip Drill" music video into a full-length, theatrical release in the near future.
"We talked about doing Tip Drill: The Movie," Nelly revealed in an interview with DJ Vlad. "Who knows. Tip Drill: The Movie. [laughs] We got something, we got something...It's just something along those lines of trying to come up with something that's a little bit creative and like I said again, everybody's not gonna love it. It goes hand in hand, man. You can't tell me I'm like 'this,' when you don't even know me." (Vlad TV)

Wonder who will play the part of a sista getting the crack of her ample butt cheeks slid with the credit card? LOL

Speaking of hits, Nelly’s single, his comeback hit has reached the Top 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 as it moves up one spot from No. 4 to No. 3. in its eighth week on the chart.

Now we at OUTTOWN predicted two months ago when the song debuted at No. 12 that it would peak at No. 3. and so far it has. Its competition is the current No. 1 song “Just the way you Are” by Bruno Mars for a fourth week and the No. 2 song, “Like A G 6” by Far East Movement that’s holds another week at that spot. We will see if it peaks at No. 3. The way it looks, it could leap frog up to the Top spot soon, or bump “G6” No. 2 peak to the No.3 spot to reach No. 2. It’s hard to predict cuz Nellys; song still is holding its string bullet. We will see soon in a couple of more weeks what will happen!

++++++++++++

Nelly isn’t holding back on the momentum of his comeback as he releases the third single off his as yet released CD, “5.0” (which will be released Nov 16) entitled, “ Move that Body” featuring T Pain and ST. Louis native Akon. The song was released this week on I-Tunes. Also, Nelly has released an I-Tunes only set "6 Pack," a greatest hits EP available exclusively through iTunes until Oct. 19 before being released in stores. And speaking of his greatest hits, The Smooth Jazz All Star has released a smooth jazz tribute CD to Nelly The 10 song disc will have his greatest hits including hits “Hot in Herre,” “Dilemma, “ “Grillz,” and “Country Grammar.”

Oh, and Nelly has been going around saying that he and R&B singer Ashanti had a more friendship than relationship when they were together. Can we say YAWN and Ho hum?

ADD: Nelly will be inducted in to the St. Louis Walk of Fame today in front of Blueberry Hill in the Delmar Loop this afternoon, Friday at 4: 30 p.m.. He's already on the walk, but was not officially inducted due to his busy schedule until now. He will be inducted by Delmar Loop mogul Joe Edwards and soon after the ceremony he, along with his bandmates the St. Lunatics, will perform a free concert inside Blueberry Hill in the Duck Room around 5 p.m. The surprise concert is part of the music video site VEVO's Go Show Music Series presneted across the country with various artists.

So you better hurry up and find a spot. Although its short notice (the release just came through at 2 p.m. today) we are sure its been tweeted enuff that folk will show yet alone people in the Loop area eyeing the ceremony and checkin it out.

+++++++++++++++++++++

We hear that STL rapper Chingy’s newest CD will be titled “No Risk, No Reward” coming out before the end of the year. Its lead off single wlll be titled, “Superhero.” Meanwhile, Chingy’s mixtape, “Success or Failure” that was released Sept 7 did more of the latter than the former. It didn't manage to break into the
Billboard 200, reportedly selling 683 copies it's first week of release.

The big STL story this week is:

Still no decision from the head offices of the St. Louis Cardinals on whether manager Tony LaRussa stays with or exits from the organization as of this posting. Currently at his residency in Alamo, Calif. (near the Bay Area) , Larussa, who celebrated his 66th b-day recently is awaiting the deciison.

The club reportedly made a formal offer last week, and La Russa told reporters at Busch Stadium that he hoped to have answer for the club by early this week but did mention that an organziation does need freshness,.

Accopridng to reports, he signed a one-year extension on October 26, 2009.

Hmm, maybe the decision will take place Oct 27. That would make sense cuz he still has a week and some days left as the manager of the Cardinals. But we think the decision will happen over the weekend which we think will be ADIOS AMIGO.

In unrelated newz, La Russa can be seen on local TV campaigning for the Nov. 2 ballot measure Proposition B, one that imposes new regulations on dog breeders.

Budding rap superstar Drake was in concert Tuesday at the FoxTheatre one of his stops in his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. From the reviews, he was a hit. According to Kevin Johnson on stltoday.com, “The charismatic Drake performed with a full band (a distinction always worth noting at a rap concert). He ripped the stage from the moment he sullenly walked in to his finale almost 90 minutes later when he dramatically dropped to his knees and thanked the crowd.” He also did a tributes to his label mentor Lil Wayne and the late R&B singer Aaliyah in his set as well. Partyline columnist Delores Shante of the St. Louis American wrote: I love his stage energy (sans the Tourette facial ticks) though, so checking him out at the Fox Tuesday night was a no-brainer. Aside from the scattered parental supervision, I was 10 years older than the most elderly member of the pierced, tatted and racially harmonious crowd. Yet for the first 20 minutes of Drake’s show I had a blast – especially enjoying his Desert Storm pants and Barbara Streisand inspired microphone!"

His label mate Tyga ,who opened the set joined him on stage on the song, “Bed Rock.”
What also made newz was the balcony at the Fox Theatre swaying to the beat—literally. The number of people upstairs caused the balcony to move, but from reports, it was built for that expectation.

After the concert, Drake hit up The Label and Tyga hosted a party that was held at the 360 formerly the Skybox.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ???????????????????????

Why did someone throw a book and someone streak naked in front of Obama at two separate public appearances? Why are we still celebrating Columbus Day?
Why folk makin a big deal with Diddy performing recently in Scotland in a kilt? Why are folks trying to give First Lady Michelle Obama the nickname Chelly O? Why hasn’t singer Kelly Rowland gotten any pub for her solo career?Why are banks robosigning foreclosures when homes were not even foreclosed?Why did Bret Fauvre send a pic of his weenie to his mistress?
Why is there a man running around St. Louis wearing a Superman outfit? Why is Raz B calling Marques Houston a pedohpile? Why has Toni Braxton filed for a second bankruptcy?
Why was there a naked man in East St Louis carjacking someone? Why did Kanye really cancel his appearance with Oprah? Why did a South African community group ask rapper 50 Cent to adopt a black rhinoceros to save the endangered species from poachers?Why is Nelly doing a movie based on his controversial music video “Tipdrill?” And why is there a sex tape about to come out on Tiger Woods?

AT THE B.E.T. HIP HOP AWARDS
Why was Farnsworth Bentley a part of one of the cyphers? And why was a snippet of Bentley ciphering shown on 106 and Park and not actually shown on the award show? Why did the banter between Trina and Trey Songz and between Kelly Rowland and Nelly seem uncomfortable to watch? Why were shoes thrown in the crowd? Why were there no rappers from the STL repped during the cyphers? Why, again, was Antoine Dodson allowed to perform The Bed Intruder Song ? And why did all the crowd got hype when he performed even knowing all the words? Why was Wocka Flocka screamin through out his performance? And why did he run out thru the crowd? Why did Rick Ross shout out, “Free Weezy?” Why did the reunion between Camron and Jim Jones seemed a bit thirsty? Why did it look like Jermaine Dupri was standing on a block to reach the mike on the podium? Why did Kanye wear white sneaks during the cipher while his protégés wore black shoes? Why did Nicki Minaj when People’s Champ over Eminem and Jay Z? And why dodnt Eminem win anything? And why was this show a train wreck?
