Happy 2010 (or as I like to say NAPPY 2010) OUTTOWNERS and we are back up again as we continue forward toward our 5th YEAR with OUTTOWN. Each year we try to give ya something different on the blog and this year isn’t any exception. Beginning on this blog, we have made some changes. First, we have changed the name from STL-TIDBITZ to ILLIMO (Illinois and Missouri)—A&E BITZ. Because of the more news we compile beyond St. Louis, we decided to change the name to affect that. Second, we have added more pics (INCLUDING THE LOGO ABOVE) and in a smaller size in order to add more pics (the top three stories will be the only pics enlarged). Third, the font size also will be smaller (the top three stories’ fonts will be larger). Fourth, we eliminated the regular columns DA MYNISTA’s SPACE and FOX FILES and added BLACK REP BITZ, a schedule of shows from the venerable theatre company this season. Fourth, we took away the EVENT SPOTLIGHT characters and just have the picture represent the spotlighted event. Next, any tidbitz item that is featured on other blog posts, we will put the footnote at the end of the item so you can go directly to it); and Lastly, we have changed the column STL-ICIOUS to PRO-MO-CIAL-ICIOUS to better reflect those promoters and socialites who are making headlines each week. Everything else has remained (we have brought back CELEB-SITE that we debuted in December) so now all we need is YOU, the OUTTOWN fans to continue reading as we glide through these weeks of 2010.

This week, the top stories were baseball linked. Earlier this week, ST. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday and his management team finally agreed to stay with the baseball franchise. Holliday, who became a free agent last season, agreed to a seven-year contract worth about $119 million to return to the St. Louis Cardinals. The deal, which is believed to pay Holliday $17 million annually over the next seven seasons and includes a team option for 2017, remains unofficial pending a physical exam. Hmm, and what does this mean for its superstar first baseman Albert Pujols when he goes up for free agency in 2011?

The other baseball newz item was that veteran baseball player Andre Dawson. Dawson will be the only player that will be inducted into this year's Baseball Hall of Fame (former Cards manager Whitey Herzog also will be inducted). On Wednesday, and on his ninth try, Dawson received 420 of 539 votes in results announced by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, 15 more than the 75 percent necessary to gain election. Dawson hit 438 homers with 1,591 RBIs in a career that spanned from 1976-96. Nicknamed "The Hawk," he was voted NL Rookie of the Year in 1977 with Montreal and NL Most Valuable Player in 1987 with the Chicago Cubs. The eight-time All-Star outfielder had fallen 44 votes short last year. Dawson stayed with the Cubs through 1992, then spent two seasons apiece with Boston and Florida. Known for his rifle arm in right field, he had a .279 career average and 314 steals, playing through 12 knee operations.
As far as the big entertainment story happening was when controversial and ultra conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was hospitalized earlier last week in Hawaii with sharp chest pains, but was released last Friday after the doctors found nothing wrong with him.Limbaugh had an angiogram, at, Honolulu’s Queen’s Medical Center.After his brief stay he had a press conference talking about his heart scare saying about the hospital’s health care, “Based on what happened to me here, I don’t think there is one thing wrong with the healthcare system. It is working just fine.”Limbaugh was back on air on Wednesday.
Hmm, isnt it interesting that he got the heart scare in the same city that the Obamas were vacationing? Hmmm.

The St. Louis Blues Organization fired head coach Andy Murray (PICTURED IN SUIT) Saturday. Murray, who guided the Blues to a playoff during the 2008-09 season, was unable to duplicate the same success through the first half of this year's campaign. St. Louis had just 40 points through 40 games at the time of Murray's firing, and the Blues also had the NHL's worst home record with just six wins. Murray, who took over the post from Mike Kitchen during the 2006-07 season, leaves the Blues with a 118-102-38 record. He was replaced by new head coach, David Payne (PICTURED).
After the mixture of cheers and boos at the Blues home game at Scott Trade Center last Saturday, we are not sure if people accepted his pink slip. Hmm, should a new Rams coach have the same feat, or shall we say Defeat? Only next season will tell.

Speaking of the Blues, its forward Keith Tkachuk is recovering from dental surgery after getting hit in the mouth with a puck that deflected in off his mouth in a game against its 6-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks last Saturday at Scott Trade Center .Tkachuk lost several teeth, required extensive dental work and needed stitches to cover a gash near his mouth. He didn't practice Monday, when the Blues returned to the ice and there is no update as to when he may return to the ice.

Over the X-mas break, ST. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson made the Pro Bowl. Jackson was selected to the Pro Bowl scheduled for Jan. 31 in Miami. Jackson made the announcement himself via Twitter on Tuesday evening. Despite missing last Sunday’s game because of a back injury that has bothered him for more than a month, Jackson still ranks second in NFL rushing yards.It’s the second Pro Bowl for Jackson, who also made it following the 2006 season.In other Jackson newz, he was voted by his St. Louis Rams teammates as the winner of the Daniel F. Reeves Memorial Award as the club’s most valuable player this season.
In other Rams news, two other Rams won awards. Safety Oshiomogho "OJ"Atogwe was selected as the Rams’ Walter Payton Man of the Year representative. All 32 teams nominate a player for the national award, which will be announced prior to the Super Bowl. Defensive end Leonard Little received the Carl Ekern Spirit of the Game Award, and linebacker James Laurinaitis earned the Carroll Rosenbloom Memorial Award as the top rookie.
Oh and if ya didnt know, the Rams ended the 2009 season 1-15, the worst record of the NFL this season. But there is a bright side: they have First Round Draft Pick in this year’s NFL Draft
OUTTOWN EXCLUSIVE: Rammed to Retire? This past Sunday, there was a private holiday party that Rams had thrown at Exo Nightclub in Midtown STL. There, several Rams players partied with special invited guests (we hear all the eats and drinsk were FREE). The Rams players that were spotted were Steven Jackson, Leonard Little, and James Butler to name a few (even ex Rams player Chris Draft was there). Some of the invited guests include mostly behind the scenes members of the Derrty ENT crew (e.g. Nellys manager T Luv) and MPAC Eye Candy Models. From our understanding the party was a party for those who were going away from the team. There was no actual announcement of who was leaving (due to no mic to make that announcement), but from a source it was speculated that it may have been a retirement party for veteran player Leonard Little but there has been no confirmation on it. It is on record that Little’s contract expired this season. When asked about it from a reporter from the St. Louis Post Dispatch, he said, "Right now, I'm just concentrating on trying to get out there and play a little bit," "That's my main focus right now. I'm just going to leave it at that."
Hmmm, we are just surmising, but then again…
Speaking of possible retiring, former St. Louis Rams now San Francisco Niner Isaac Bruce said this week that he was "75 percent" sure that he was retiring after this past Sunday's Rams-49ers game at the Edward Jones Dome. The game was blacked out from TV airing due to low attendance.
Over the X-mas break, the sold out 29th annual Bragging Rights Tourney took place with rivals The Fighting Illini and Mizzou held at Scott Trade Center where Mizzou reigned victorious in a . 81-68 victory. It was the Tigers first win in nine years.
Last week, STL based rapper/mogul Nelly last week offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a burglar who reportedly broke into his St. Louis mansion earlier last month and stole cash and electronics early that morning that it happened. The intruder reportedly ran off with a duffel bag full of Nelly's possessions and hopped into a waiting SUV. The St. Louis County Police confirmed there was no physical contact between the intruder and the guests who were in the house at the time. We have heard that a few folk have tipped Crimestoppers on some leads.
Hmm, but still seems speculative to us as far as this robbery. Is itus or do you think you would have offered the reward as soon as the burglary took place? We are just sayin.
In other Nelly newz, the rap star leaked a snippet new song “Gone” a duet with former duet partner Kelly Rowland on the popular live networking network, “U Stream” over the X-mas break where he and Rowland were working (and clowning around) in the Derrty ENT studios in St. Louis laying down the track and giving the public a small taste of the song. The song is a sequel to their Grammy Award winning No. 1 2002 smash, “Dilemma.” The song will be apart of his sixth CD, “Let’s Get it" slated for a March release.
And in more Nelly newz, his Applebtooms crew have picked models for his Apple bottoms denim line in the Netherlands. His crew is seeking for the Dutch Miss Apple Bottoms 2010, and has received a lot of potentials since their initial announcement and the expert panel selected 15 beautiful ladies was based on their appearance, personality, determination and runway skills." Over the next three weeks, visitors to the official Dutch site for line (www.MissAppleBottoms.nl) will help make the final decision by voting for their favorite.The search for Miss Apple Bottoms 2010 will be held in the best nightclubs from 11 major cities within The Netherlands. Longtime journalist Martin Duggan retired from "Donnybrook" last month. The 88 year old veteran of STL print and broadcast media bid a fond farewell to his audience on Dec. 17 at the Sheldon Concert Hall in a live telecast dubbed Donnyblast and aired on KETC-TV. Duggan’s last show reportedly attracted a sold-out audience Duggan began the popular Thursday night local TV show 23 years

WHHL radio personality and rapper Shawty Da Prince left Hot 104.1 last week for a night spot in Detroit that started Jan. 2. The station is owned by the same Radio One company. Prince, who was formerly kown as Shawty Da Kid, was hired on with WHHL since June 2009 after being fired from rival radio network Clear Channel's 100,3 The Beat (which has now been revamped with a new radio format).
The STL got the Fox Theatre on wrap with national based stars in several musicals that have come and will be coming to the venue. On X-mas nite, there was a non-fatal shooting that happenned at Karma nightclub. Currently, St. Louis police are searching for the gunman who shot and seriously wounded a St. Louis Sheriff’s deputy and a second man outside the Karma nightclub. The off-duty sheriff’s deputy was reportedly working as a security officer outside the when a disturbance began inside. A man reportedly came out of the club 9got his gun from his CAR)and fired numerous shots. The deputy was wounded twice, in a hand and the legs. A 25-year-old man was reportedly shot in the chest, abdomen and legs. The injuries were reported as non life threatening. The suspect reportedly ran into an alley behind the club.

The sports bar and grill Ozzie’s is reopening. It will reopen on Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis (near 15th and Wash) . named for the legendary baseball Cardinal Ozzie Smith, the restaurant reportedly will be based on the bottom two floors of the building and will feature a display of Smith’s 13 Gold Gloves and a storefront retail space in the restaurant will sell jerseys and other memorabilia.The restaurant will begin build-out this month . Completion date is slated for April, just in time for the Cardinals’ 2010 home opener.The former venue was located at Westport plaza and closed last Fall after 20 years in the location.
The STL also has Oscar ties this year.
The St. Louis Film Critics group has named its award winners for 2009. The Oscar buzzed film “Up in the Air,” the corporate-downsizing dramedy that was filmed in St. Louis last winter, was named Best Picture.

Is New WESL Radio Station about to change formats once again? Dubbed Urban Sports and Talk has been sold--again. OUTTOWN does not know who are the new buyers but it was reported when WESL personality Charlie Tuna Edwards announced it duirng his radio show, The Charlie Tuna Show” last month. Tuna said on his show that he was not surprised of the buyout. The new station debuted in June after the station was pulled off air as a mainstay in old school R&B in early 2008 and changed to a mainstream, sports talk format.

Rapper Huey came out of his hip-hop hiding of sorts and adopted a STL family over the holidays. He and his crew bought toys for a family of ten of the Williams Family(their location was not provided) in St. Louis and brought canned goods for them. From our understanding, Huey has adopted families ever since he blew up nationally in 2007 with his hit single, "Pop, Lock and Drop it."

MPAC’s popular monthly Eye Candy Party was held in two parts last month. The promotions group had two model competition on Xmas Nite at two different clubs in two different states. The first took place at the Loft nightclub in Midtown STL and later on the second one took place at Club Plush in downtown East St. Louis.
Liquid Assets is on a roll starting of fin the year like they left out in 2009. On February 28they will present the second annual Notice Me Model Appreciation Awards and Celebration where they celebrate and award Saint Louisans doin their thing in fashion and entertainment industries.The location is to Location:To be determined.

CLUB BITZ
There have been some clubs to close shop like Knockouts in North county and Kicthen k in downtown St. Louis last year and this week Macy’s in Northwest plaza is about to close by February. The Skybox, the sports bar that was once owned by rapper Nelly, former Rams player Marshall faulk and St Louis native b-ball players Darius Miles and Larry Hughes, has reopened under new management late December (same name). It is nowan 18 and up club.There are also new clubs that have popped up in the STL area: the Cotton Club in Kinloch, Club VIP and the Aqua bar on Gravois in STL; and Club Flava formerly Onyx on Collinsville AVE in East St. Louis.

Speaking of new clubs, we are hearing that longtime club owner John Burns is about to open a club on the STL side once again. Our source couldn’t tell us where and when, but we do know he is up for the club back in the STl city. Burns’ club on the STL side, Club Society closed last April after a shooting incident outside of the club. He currently runs the popular club, Plush on Collinsville Avneue in East S.Louis.

This week we have lost two important ILLIMO people in the arts and entertainment field.
Brad L. Graham, a theater publicist and social networking pioneer who is credited with coining the term “blogosphere,” has died. He was 41.His body was found Monday at his home in the city’s Shaw Neighborhood. Although the time and the cause of death remain unknown, Graham seemed to have died of natural causes.

On Sunday, magazine publisher and fashion maven Eunice Johnson died at the age of 93 and widow of Ebony magazine founder the late John Johnson.Mrs. Johnson died Sunday of renal failure at her Chicago home.Mrs. Johnson was director and producer of the Ebony Fashion Fair since 1961. The traveling high-fashion charity event that showcases black designers and models is held in nearly 200 cities each year.With her husband, she developed a popular makeup and skin-care line - Fashion Fair Cosmetics - specifically for women of color. The products are sold in many high-end department stores.She was also secretary-treasurer of Johnson Publishing, which produces JET and Ebony, two of the country's longest-running black-oriented magazines based in Chicago. A native Alabaman, she is credited with naming Ebony magazine.

(Hint.The person is a female and they do not sing and they are a St. Louis native and their name is a "made up homonym " that sounds like a word that could be used to describe a damaging tire and a pancake)

CELEB –SITE. Who was spotted in the STL? Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and singer/songwriter Barry Manilow.
Evander Holyfield. The champ was spotted at a Xmas party held on Mcpherson in the Central West End put on by the Mound City BarAssociations annual get together. At first he was just blending in the crowd and at one point was sitting in the den watching football with several other guests (we even saw him yawn a couple of times). He is smaller in person than we thought he would be( but he is no longerin training mode so that could be the reason for his slender appearance). But as the party picked up he was very cordial and tookpics with people who were there at the party. He was brought to the party by his friend, STL Attorney Richard Banks.
Barry Manilow. Also during the X-mas break Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Barry Manilow was seen in the audience during "White Christmas" at the Fox. According to his friend, actress/singer Lorna Luft (who performed in "White Christmas"), on KMOX radio talk show host John Carney's show she said that Manilow was a suprise to her. He did not let any of the media know he was coming to see her in St. Louis. Luft said that he greeted her backstage to congratualte her.
Hmm, we wonder what people around him were thinking when they saw him sitting there. Probably said, "Is that?....No, couldnt be...But my goodness, he is wearing soooooo much makeup." LOL

Why wasn’t it well reported that Alaina Reeddied a couple of weeks ago? Lady Gaga’s headlining the Fox Theatre Jan. 7, 2010, andErney’s 32 Degrees is the sight of the Haus of Gaga: TheMonster Ball Concert After Party later the same night.
The party is at 9 p.m. Jan. 7 at Erney’s, and it’s a jointproduction with Alive magazine.
Lady Gaga isn’t confirmed or contractually obligated to appear, butthose involved are hoping.
