OUT 699-STL TIDBITZ

HELLO OUTTOWNERS! ITS WEDNESDAY--TIME TO GET TOWNED!

Before we get into the A&E in the ILLI and MO, Congrats to Chi-town based President Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize last Friday. Despite all the haters, naysayers and opinion makers, Obama got the Prize. He is the third sitting president, fourth president in general and the first prez to get t in his first year in office.

The big arts and entertainment newz stories in the ILLI and MO this week are sports related. The first is folk in the St. Louis area still smarting after the St. Louis cardinals got swept by the Los Angeles dodgers last week 3-0 in a game of 5 when the Cards lost to the Dodgers at home in Busch stadium.
After the losing game, First baseman Pujols, didn’t addressed the news media. Ryan Holliday, whose error in Game 2 cost them the chance to tie the series, waited nearly an hour before emerging and tThe office of Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was kept shut
But the aftermath now is whether Holliday and LaRussa will stay with the team next season. Only time will tell.
+++++++++++++++
In other cards newz, New York based firm, Steiner Sports Marketing has sued Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina. The firm reportedly said he ignored their agreement to make appearances and sign autographs. The firm filed Friday in New York, claiming the company had a contract with Molina dating to October 2006. It says Steiner paid “Molina $90,660 in advance when the contract was renewed in July 2008, but he later refused to attend autograph signings and will not return the money.” Steiner is reportedly seeking damages in excess of $175,000. The suit was filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan.
Wow, this is ugly. It doesn’t look good for Molina on the surface. I think both parties will settle instead of taking it to court. Don’t ya think?

Speaking of lawsuits, former Cardinals short stop Ozzie Smith’s restaurant, Ozzie’s at Westport Plaza will close this Friday. The closing is reportedly blamed in part on competition from a next generation of baseball stars, Albert Pujols and his nearby Pujols5 restaurant.

As a result of the competition, Ozzie’s ownership G&H Management Inc., the company that runs Ozzie’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, is suing West Port Plaza’s owner, Golub & Co. of Chicago (that was filed in April) . The suit alleges a lineup of wrongs, including fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and unjust enrichment. In other words the Westport folk renigging on its promise to not have a competing sports bar in the Westport plaza vicinity.
Another issue is whether the plaza’s owner misled G&H during negotiations to extend Ozzie’s lease.

Pujols 5 Westport Grill opened in August 2006. At that time Ozzie’s Restaurant & Sports Bar started to see a drop in revenue, the suit claims. The case is scheduled to go to a jury trial in St. Louis County Court on Oct.26

Ozzie’s has been a fixture at Westport since 1988.

Hmm, this is a more interesting case of who is right and who was wrong. Our thing is, if it was in the contract that Westport agreed not to have a competing sports bar then the Plaza folk should give the property owner of Ozzie’s should stay. The question is, who allowed Pujols’ venue to open? On the other hand, didn’t the owners of Ozzie’s know the deal when Pujols’ venue was erected in 2006? Why now to cry wolf three years later now that Ozzie’s lease will not be renewed? Hmm.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In other sports newz, The Rams were in the newz again. Beside losing to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday and going 0-5, civil rights advocates the Reverends Jesse Jackson and
Rev. Al Sharpton as well as NFL players sent a letter to the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that argues against Rush Limbaugh's attempt to become part of Rams ownership. Jackson said Limbaugh made his wealth "appealing to the fears of whites" with insults against blacks and other minorities. Goodell responded publicly to Limbaugh's bid this week, saying that Limbaugh's commentary is not one that would be welcome in the NFL.

Well, we can say that at least the pressure is on about Limbaugh. But, we think the NFL is looking at the bottom line—if Limbaugh is awarded some ownership of any team, there will be protest from fans and players who are non-white, and we sure Goodall don’t want any money lost from no tickets sold.

UPDATE: It was reported Thursday that Limbaugh too his name out of the running for minor ownership of the St. Louis Rams with St. Louis Blues Dave Checketts, who dropped him from the team after the heat was put on Limbaugh. And in related rams newz, it was reported that St. Louis biz man David Stewart, an African American, has put his hat in the ring to own the St. Louis.

Chicago talk show queen Oprah Winfrey just taped an episode of her show at the the
State Fair of Texas in Dallas. McBride was the musical guest on that outdoor stage. No word yet on when that episode will air. In other Oprah newz, one of Oprah's former flight attendants, Corrine Gehrls on her private jet filed a defamation of character suit against Winfrey, since Winfrey had fired her (who is her goddaughter by the way) earlier this year after supposedly catching her having sex with the jet's pilot while in the air and as passengers (including Winfrey) slept. The flight attendant claimed that Oprah's accusations are false since “all sex acts between her and the pilot only occurred while the plane was safely landed and refueling."

She claims two other flight attendants--one of whom is the daughter of Gayle King-- conspired to lie to Oprah about Gehrls having "inappropriate intimate behavior" aboard a flight. The pilot was also fired.

Reportedly, the accused passed lie detector tests saying the act while in air did not occur, but they admitted to relations on the ground and on the plane. For Oprah's accusations of in-flight servicing, the flight attendant seeks over $300,000 in damages.

Come on now. Regardless if the act happened in the air or on ground, they were still at the job,. If they were gonna knock boots, there’s something called a hotel?

In other Chitown newz, former "American Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson is coming home to television for the holidays with a primetime music special “Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas" slated to air in December on ABC. The special will feature the singer-actress reliving her childhood holidays with musical performances filmed in locations specific to her youth: the church, music academy and other Chicago locations.
Hmm, this should be an interesting special especially with the death of her mother and how they will deal with that segment of her family remembrances.

And in more Chi-town newz, rap superstar Kanye west was planning to go to a Hindu ashram in India get some spiritual guidance for his outbursts. According to mtv.com, Ye announced he's hoping to chill out at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry where the president had invited West to study there and other leading Hindus upon his return to America:
.

There was a double elimination that occurred Sunday on P Diddy’s Starmarker reality competition show on MTV and fortunately, our Midwest singers STL’s Todd Sarvies and Chitown’s Melody Angel were not sent home,. They made the Top 4. Sarvies performed an original song for the first time on the reality, something called “Flatline,” and it was a winner. Angel, in a sexy new makeover, sang Pink’s “Just Like A Pill.” Before their performances, they had a challenge to create a melody produced by and recorded in the studio with judge Rodney Darkchild Jerkins and see who is strong enough to make it another week.

WORDZ TO THE WHYZ

Why doesn’t brother Jacob who calls in on Rob Desir and Moses show on WESL have his own show? Why are the best sitcoms on the air are animated? Why was that first grader suspended for 45 days and sent to an alternate school after he had a cub scout knife to eat his lunch (he was later readmitted to his regular school after public uproar)? Why was the security at Karma during the Maxwell after Party strong arming the media to not take any pics (But the crowd was able to.) ? why are the anti-Obamaites saying Obama devalued the Nobel Peace Prize? Why are celebrities buying tea cup pigs? Why is comedian Monique screaming throughout her talk show? And why is the Belleville Police department receiving an NAACP award at its luncheon awards?
