OUT (ON THE TOWN) 822--BLOOM/CTF 3 YR ANNIV @EXO; NIGHT SOCIETY &BLACK LABEL 1 YR ANNIV@BLACK LABEL Apr 23; FUNNY SUNDAYS @PULSE Apr 25

Photos by Ma'atology Close to Famous' Triky and Kelly. They were celebrating their three year anniversary as biz partners at their event titled BLOOM last Friday. They continued the following nite at the City where they debut the weekly, Status Saturdays.

Attendees included socialite/promoter Cerise Cohee (get that MBA sistah!) and designer Chris Dinkins.

DJ Reminise had it crunk on the mp3s.

Mr. Robert gettin his two step on with his lady.

Paparazzi gettin it in!

Some of the many in the crowd who came out after the blackout (will explain below ).
NOTE: This event was cool. Lots of people, networking, music and drink. Biz as usual. Whats interesting was about 90 minutes after the doors opened (around 10p.m.) there was a power outtage after the high winds and major storms earlier that day resulting in a section of Compton and Locust to be blacked out including the intersection traffic lights, the BP Gas Station, Loft Nightclub and the adjoining biz, Karma Nightclub Exo and the Fubar. Soon after the lights came back on (around 1130) then it was back to normal. Also in the house were promoter Daryel Oliver, comic Jessie Taylor, Beige World editor David Burnett and socialite Renaud Chavoz Lucas.
LATER THAT NITE:
Add Image
We caught the tail end of the one year anniversary celebrations of Black Label as well as paparazzi company/promoters Night Society. Pictured are Night Society team (from left) Michael Barber (much love for the final free Jello shot. LOL) Mr. Terry (standing), Kennya Anthony and Maurice Bishop.

Tim Slater (or is it Cortez this go round. LOL) and Black Label hypeman had it goin on the mike.

The TMP PIC--This sista had a leg up on what she wanted. LOL

Tim in hype host mode. behind him is former football player Bernard Whittington.

NOTE: We got there about midnight or so and it was hella packed. An added touch were the free gelatin shots for the crowd (Barber said that we missed out the sistas licked out the shots from the small containers. LOL) SouL Sessions' Jae Edwards had the club photo set up for the crowd. Whats puzzling was the bar, from our understanding closes at 3 a.m. but the hosts were gettin asses out of there by 1:30 a.m.!

ON LAST SATURDAY WE DID.......NOTHING. LOL ON SUNDAY NITE :

We checked out comic Jessie Taylor's weekly Funny Sundays at the Pulse (formerly the Spotlight) in Baden. Taylor was in rare form as always talking about his favorite subjects: the STL hood and sex. Taylor had the crowd's side splitting talking about how people name their children from streets located where they were conceived( "His name is Gake (pronounced "Jake") that stands for Grand And Kossuth Exit, the difference between white women and black women having sex ("White women be all like (excited Valley girl accent), 'oooooh, yeah you're fucking me. Oh yeah! No, you are really fucking me.'" Whereas black women got an attitude, they look and say (bored)'Uh, yeah, wait a minute I think I hear my kids'" ). Taylor also had the crowd cracking up demonstrating having sex by using the chair.

Next, he had the talent portion of the show.

Poet Diesal, who also works at Pulse these days, recited a love poem that got the ladies reactin' (including one of the bartenders).

Producer/rapper J Dug was one of the three who participated in the competition portion of the talent show. He spat a poem about (more like a rap) about knowing yourself.

Taylor asked the second competitor, rapper 007 what she was going to do for her talent and she spat lyrics about herself. She also pubbed her new mixtape which she said she was selling and showcasing it at T Billy Buffetts this Thursday.

OO7 gettin the spit in.

She had the crowd in deep as J Dug, her mixtape producer and Taylor looked on.

The third was rapper Lil Tony who what else.... rapped and last was Smug Deep Butta who wasnt part of the competition but did a tribute to their homeboy and hype dancer, Mohawk who was incarcerated recently by performing their track, "Beat it Bad" and demonstrating the song's dance created by Mohawk.

Then it was time for the crowd to vote on who was the best.

The vote was tie between J Dug and 007. So they had a 60 second battle. He did another poem and she did a snippet from her mixtape as she gave the dee-jay a track to play. Well, one of the crowd members yelled out "That ain't fair, she using music." She checked the audience member and said, "Hey hold up, I'm 007, don' t do me." Her comment caused the crowd, as well as Taylor, to respond, "Ooooooooooooooooh!"

The winner was OO7. What they won? Don't know. LOL

Next were the comics.

Opening was comic STL Slim who talked about topics like how to get a house on Section 8 at any part of the world, the story of the effeminate homosexual man beating him up in a neighborhood fight and the difference between lesbians and d---s.

A back view shot of STL Slim on stage and the crowd.

Headliner B Cole had a family emergency the day of the show and had to cancel so the replacement comic was STL fave, Ray Laposki

Laposki talked about Lil Wayne ("This guy is everywhere on people's records. Last I checked he was doing a featuring on a Kirk Franklin song." ), Facebook dont's ("If you a guy, don't poke me, send me any pillows or a beer. Buy me a real beer." ) and misunderstanding hood definitions ("This guy came up to me in this club, stood next me and and said, 'I'm about to steal on this mutha fucka'". I was like, oh no, he's about to rob me. He's about to steal the 600 dollars I have in my pocket. Well, next thing you know, he punched me in my face. I was happy that the didnt steal my 600 dollars."

He also talked about celebs in the news like Tiger Woods's wife( "His wife should have stayed with him and didnt say nothin, If he's just fuckin btches, then she's winning." ), Brandy ("Someone needs to tell her about her lacefront." ) and Chilli of TLC ("No she has a reality show trying to find love. How old is she? Wasn't she like relevant like 1998? She's gonna need a Red Bull to start up her pussy." )

A long shot of Laposki on stage.
NOTE: Overall the show was good. The headliner, who said on stage that he got the call from Taylor to see if he could perform that day (He was on the road to Chi-town and turned around to head to St. Louis) had many in the crowd trying to figure out the latter half of his jokes (especially the ones talking about big boned sisters and growing up with the real mob.).The hood also had it share of things going on near the nightclub side of Pulse as brothers were blunting up and stopping up the toilet with the butts and pretending the corner of the club near the stage was their street hangout. Other comics were there hanging out including Jay" Do She" Lee and Lil Rock.

OUT 821--ILLIMOBITZ

HEY OUTTOWNERS

SORRY BUT COULDNT DOWNLOAD ANY PICS BUT HEER IS THE INFO FOR YA!

HELLO OUTTOWNERS!
ITS THURSDAY—A NEW DAY

TIME TO GET TOWNED!

Prayers still goes out to Haiti, Chile, China and the West Virginia miners.

This week commemorates two special occasions one national and one ILLMO-al.Today, is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day! Keep our Earth clean and safe. This week also commemorates the 100 year b-day of Missouri based writer and humorist Mark Twain

As we continue celebrating poets in the ILLIMO area during National Poetry Month, this week we celebrate the life of Chi-town poet and writer, Carolyn M. Rodgers.

Rodgers, who helped found one of the country's oldest and largest black-owned book publishers, died earlier this month. She was 69.

The Chicago native wrote nine books, including "How I got Ovah." Her work often delved into the experiences of black women and using expletives in her works.
Rodgers is credited with being a star of the black arts movement of the 1960s and 1970s. She helped found Third World Press in the 1960s. She also started her own publishing company, Eden Press.

A public memorial is planned May 4 where Rodgers' work will be read.

This big ILLIMO newz story has still been about talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey. This go round is her supposed real father

In response to the recent release of the unauthorized and unofficial biography by writer Kitty Kelly, it seems that everyone wants a piece of Oprah
.
Due to allegations in the book that Vernon Winfrey
is not the talk show queen’s real father, there have been men from all walks of life making claims that they are, in fact, her father. Recently, Norh Robinson, an 84-year-old navy veteran, has come forward to claim paternity of Winfrey. He has gone so far as to say that he is willing to provide a paternity test to prove that he is her father. He says that he wants nothing of her money; he just wants to meet her before he dies.
Robinson said of trying to get in touch with Winfrey, “I told her, if she wanted, I’d give her (a paternity test). I never got no answer. I never did get no answer. If I did, it didn’t get to me.”

When reporters confronted Winfrey about the possibility of a paternity test she shouted, “I will not be taking a paternity test, ever!” She then, allegedly, pushed the reporter aside in order to get into her SUV.

According to sources, Winfrey considers Vernon her real father so she feels no need to confirm paternity with any other man.

And the Queen has spoken!

Actress and adopted ILLMOian Niecy Nash is still on Dancing with Stars. She survived week four this week.

The St. Louis Rams had first draft pick today in the NFLDraft and they picked (and no surprise) OklahamaQB SamBradford. Earlier this week, the organization administered their fall Schedule and they will play three of their first four games at home, including their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Edward Jones Dome.
It marks the first time the Rams have opened at home since 2007.

Chicago native and award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson recently recorded a duet with pop singer Leona Lewis for the 'Sex and The City' sequel, according to reports. The song is apparently going to be the theme tune for the new movie.
A source said: "The pair have recorded the song
and it's been discussed as either the main theme or to feature on the soundtrack.

Hudson, who recently revealed her new look after following Weight Watchers, starred alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and girls as Louise from St. Louis in the first film in 2008.

In the STL, things didn’t seem too easy for the award winning singer when she headlined St. Louis native award winning sports journalist Bob Costas’ annual benefit for Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital at the Fox Theatre last Saturday(comedian Jimmy Fallon also on the bill fared better reportedly) .

According to Kevin Johnson of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, “ Her task was to engage a seemingly unmovable, low-key crowd who didn't know who she was or didn't care. She said (from the stage )the crowd seemed as if was sleep, and she would come into the crowd and wake it up. Hudson, a trouper throughout, tried, and eventually found some support after latching onto some true fans from her predominately African-American fan base, who were few and far between this night.”

OUCH.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Award winning actress Glenn Close was in St. Louis last Friday as part of BringChange2Mind’s “Change A Mind, Change A Life,” gala at the Four Seasons Hotel. The non-profit foundation is based in the Metro East and is dedicated to providing support to families and friends of people suffering with mental illness and to those who have lost friends or family to suicide. Close got involved with trying to erase the stigma associated with mental illness after her sister, Jessie, was diagnosed with the disease. Close, in partnership with major mental health organizations throughout the country, launched the organization, which addresses the stigma and provides a web portal for resources to support people and families facing mental illness.
Close took photos and greeted with the crowd after the event. Then on last Saturday, Close threw out the first pitch to kick off the Cardinals game against the Mets.

We wonder if anyone tempted to ask her to say her famous movie line, "I won't be ignored,Dan."LOL
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

R&B legend and STL resident Ron “Mr Biggs” Isley is one of many acts who will perform on the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage Cruise May 16-23.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The big A&E newz story in the STL area was the filming of the St. Lunatics’ new video, “Money Talk” off their latest CD, “City Free.” The video, which is the first official video from the CD, was shot Monday at Visual Tracks Studios in Fenton. All of the Tics were there as well as featured artist Birdman of the cash Money Millionaires. Other guest appearances include STL rapper Chingy, Jus Black , and dee-jay Sir Thurl. (SEE OUT 819 FOR PICS )

Speaking of Nelly, he confronted Kat Stacks on some radio show about him smashing some girl named Haylee in front of her. Well from what he heard, he made her look foolish in her allegations.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In other St. Lunatics newz, group members Kyjuan and Murphy Lee travelled to Nashville last weekend to participate in their organization UCME’s 1st Softball Game Tourney (don’t know who they played against or the results). Before week’s start, they dropped off the new Tics single, “Money Talk” to Hot 104.1. Next week, Kyjuan and Murphy Lee’s cooking show “Just For You” will debut on STl-TV. Go to http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/stltv/schedule.htm for scheduled times.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Gospel artist Smokie Norful played the diva role when he headlined for the Power To End Stroke Gospel Celebration at the Power of Change Church. Well according to Delores Shante’s column Partyline, Norful wasn’t in a joyous mood. According to Shante, “ Smokie was all funny actin’ and didn’t want to sign autographs or meet and greet with the people and a bunch of blah, blah, blah that ended on an NAACP Image Award for Best Drama Performance by a male lead blactor.” Reportedly,he was late and wanted to get on stage not caring of the supporting acts who were scheduled to open the show. But what the crowd got was a very short (like himself. LOL) performance.

Speaking of comics,as we reported late last week, comic Darius Bradford had to go to jail last weekend due to baby mamma drama involving lack of child support payments. His folks were trying to raise money for his bail so that he would be able to host his own b-day party at Lure last Friday entitled, Sprung.” Delores Shante's Partyline column in the St. Louis American talked about how Bradford was supposed to host his b-day party but got locked up for missing two court dates and apparently for the lack of child support payments to his baby mamma. Well, his folks wishes were not granted cuz when OUTTOWN arrived to his party, we got word that he was still locked up and wont be coming out of the slammer until that Monday. Nevertheless, the money that was collected that note at his party was more like a fundraiser for Bradford’s bail.

Why do people who cant sing try to sing when they have on headphones? Why is Rev.Al Sharpton doing Beta Prostate radio commercials? Why does it seems though Trey Songz is trying to be the new R Kelly? Why did Big Mike say on American Idol on Tim Urban's farewell package that he was in love with him? Why are JJ Walker and Ann Coulter an item? Why is Tameka Foster,Usher's ex,all on Twitter sending hate tweets about his new lady? OUT 820--FEATURE BITZ: PLAYBOY RO

Rapper Ro seeks second shot at success

By Marcus Ma’at Atkins

During a recent web search on the song “Nikki,” by JMC and Ronin, this writer typed in NIKKI then St. Louis in a google search and the following info came up on Yahoo Answers:

YAHOO Answers 2 years ago
“I am looking for the name of a rap song between 5-7 years old in which the chorus says "I said Nikki". I think the song originated in St. Louis and I doubt the song is known throughout the entire US because I asked others in Kansas City and received puzzled looks. I really need to know the name of this song because I liked it and I want it on my iPod.”

Well, the only answer given from the only respondent was “It was Nikki by The Dream.”

And those in the know here in the STL, knows that wasn’t the artist.

Not even close.

The answer should have read as follows:

In 2002, JMC snd Ronin dropped a club banger called “NIKKI” that spun out of control on radio & clubs throughout the Midwest in 2002.

Ro performing at his Cd release party for his first solo CD, "63140" last March at Cusamano's.

According to JMC’s Facebook page, during “Nikki’s” popularity on radio, the two child hood friends moved over 30,000 units of their CD, “Out Da Blue” on JMC’s Out Da Blue label and quickly went back to the lab to work on the lead single for their second CD, “Block Party.” Even though the CD’s first single, “Hennessy, No Ice” was very promising, with about 1,000 spins due to bad management the CD was never released & the two parted ways.

But the experience made Ronin stronger. After changing his stage name from Ronin to Playboy Ro, he, along with his cousin, Ball, who was part of the Out Da Blue camp, formed Ball and Ro and produced three significant STL mixtapes: “The Evening Whirl” (2003), and “CSI St. Louis “ (2004) and “Rok Star” (2006). He also produced the full CD, “Da Commission” , a Best of Both Worlds type CD, with he and STL producer Fats of Live N Direct. Although the CDs made a dent in the STL, they got their most pub outside of ST. Louis resulting in steady tours of the southern region inlcluding Altanta and Miami and even working with boy band producer, Maurice Starr.

In 2007, Ro, along with his younger brother King David, formed the production company HayMaka Musik in 2007 produding other artists and hip-hop beats under the moniker Ethan Hunt. He also released his first solo CD, “Playboy Ro 63140” in July 2009 producing most of the tracks from it including the single, “Shakindat.”

Now, Ro is working full speed on his upcoming projects. OUTTOWN interveiwed Ro about his life, the hip hop biz, and the upcoming release of his second solo CD, “Prodical Son.”

OT: Where are you originally from?
Ro: I am from a small St Louis city called Kinloch, unlike most people both of my parents and all of my inlaws live there--grandparents, uncles and cousins alike. The house I was born in and lived in up until age two is now a barbershop on Lurch Street.

OT: What high school did you graduate from?
Ro: I started my high schools years at Cardinal Ritter and ended up transferring and graduating from McCluer Senior High.

OT: What was your first recollection playing music?
Ro: I got my start in music at birth. In the seventies, my father had a band called Steeping into Tomorrow and from what I heard they were great. He turned from band mate to booking agent in the late 70's early 80s. He used to book all the top artists around that time like The O’Jays, Stephanie Mills, the Commodores..... I was three-years-old the first time he let me play a drum solo during intermission of one of his shows. The song was “Burn Rubber” by the Gap Band. I’ve been on stage since then.

The album cover of his first CD.

OT: What song put you on the map here in St. Louis?
Ro: "NIKKI." Seems as if some people want to keep that the only song that makes the map, but I digress. “Nikki” came out of no where and it took a while to get it going but once it popped it was on. Came right back with “Hen, No Ice” and it was major as well.

OT: How did you come up with your that song?

Ro: Actually my homie JMC or JMC The HitMan came up with the track, the title and the song concept. He called me one night said he had just finished this crazy beat, he didn’t know what to call it so he saved it as “NIKKI,” a girl he had just gotten off the phone with. This was the time that Ying Yang twins were making a lot of noise and he was like, "Look we gonna go to the studio and just talk crazy over the beat. Ying Yang is getting paid and we gonna get paid just like them." I dint like the idea but I went with it and BOOM a year and a half later, GHETTO GOLD baby.

OT: How did you come up with your stagename, Playboy Ro?

Ro: Ro is short for RONIN, and I got the Playboy from the times we all would be out kicking it. I like girls, pretty girls and at that time I guess they liked me a lil’ bit so my boys started calling me playboy all the time and it just stuck from there.

The album cover of J.M.C and Ronin's "Out Da Blue," when Ro first started off in the STL hip hop game in 2002.

OT: Are you working on any projects? If so, what are they?

Ro: I’m working on my follow up to my first CD, “Playboy Ro 63140”(released July 2009) its called, “The Prodical Son”, that’s coming out May 11. I have productions on there by SP, Ethan Hunt(my alter ego) Ronnie Notch, King David, and I’m waiting on Tech Supreme to throw me one. I got guest spots by Nite Owl, Tef Poe, Young Slim, and Monty B, and the coldest singer I know, Fats. I also got appearances by The ST LOUIS legends LLC and MS KRIS blessed with that fire on the intro track.

OT: What instance in your life would be shocking to people to know about you?

Ro: Well I spent the first four months of my life in the hospital. I was born with a ruptured abdominal wall and the doctors didn’t expect me to live past 2 months old. Needless to say with a lot of prayer and hope I lived and I’m still here. I was a soldier from birth.

OT: What’s your thoughts on the state of St Louis hip hop today? And the state of hip-hop in general?

Ro: St Louis Hip Hop is looking good. I don’t want this to come out wrong but HUMILITY is a big lesson often learned the hard way. I was humbled a few years back, and I think with the closing of the radio station (100.3 The Beat) it has forced some people to take a step back and realize that we can be bigger than these lil’ clicks and teams. My city has more talent than any other city I’m feeling right now. From Tef Poe and The Force, and Nite Owldoing true real HIP HOP, to Yung RO and Shawty holding down the young rap crowd. I’ve watched AYE Verb and Hitt Man Holla kill these NY cats with the battle rap, its crazy right now. We got the best DJs like Nino, AJ, (Charlie) Chan, (Sir) Thurl, Quinn, C Note, Stan. These are some of the best guys to ever do it. We don’t have any unity though.

Ro on the mic.

OT: Who's the greatest rapper of all time?

Ro: Me!!! What the fuck kinda question is that? No, all jokes aside, 2Pac by far. He embodied what an MC is suppose to be. He could do any style and make you believe all of them. He could make you want to get into some gangsta shit, go get some pussy, run for President, feed the needy, visit your mother, and kill the government all on one album!!! Duse was a gifted artist and there will never be another.

OT: Which rappers are holding it down today?

Ro: Kanye West. Once you get past the dramatics and diva shit, Kanye holds it down on every song I’ve heard him on. He makes you think and he has passion about his MUSIC. His verses always are on point and he is a beast on the boards. He is a complete artist. I can’t get into too many cats now. I never liked neck bones. They never had enough meat on them for me and that’s what today’s rap is. A bunch of lil corny cats running around talking about shit they never did and never will do. You don’t have to have any talent anymore. Get a nice track, talk a bunch of nonsense and put the shit on YouTube, add a dance to it and boom your the next star.....BULLSHIT!!!!

OT:
What advice would you give to a music artist who wants to get in the music biz?

Ro: Do your homework and believe in yourself. There will always be doubters, you have to have it in your mind that you are the best and act accordingly. Have your team together. I missed out on millions all because my team wasn’t strong. Get your business in line first.

Ro on the set of his first music video (with singer Kelli Rene') at Double Helix Studios last July for his single, "Shakendat" off his first CD, "Playboy Ro 63140. "

OT: What are your hobbies?

Ro: I love to make good music , play b-ball and kick it with my kids. Oh yeah if anybody wants to see in that Call Of Duty I’m there all day. Tag name IWISHAMFWOULD ps3!!

OT: What’s your favorite pig out food?

Ro: I get down with some fried chicken, that’s sounding real coonish I know but hit that with some spaghetti or lasagna, and some corn on the cob or my auntie's cabbage and you got a full blown goon on the loose.

OT: What do you see yourself doing as far as your music career within the next five years?

Ro: In five years, I’ll be laid back reaping the rewards of all this hard work I’ve put in. I’m happy with making money doing music. I don’t have to be a gazillionaire cause that’s when them Illuminati boys come looking for you. LOL!!!

OUT 819--ST. LUNATICS MUSIC VIDEO SHOOT @VISION TRACKS STUDIO in FENTON APRIL 19

YOURS TRULY, Ma'at Atkins took time from the OUTCAM and commentating to take a flick with St. Lunatics member Kyjuan who was on set with the other Lunatics (including Nelly) to shoot its latest video" Money Talk" at Vision Tracks Studio in Fenton Monday.

Photos by Erica M Brooks (above pic) Ma'atology and B Free Paparazzi ( first pic and the last six pics) This past Monday OUTTOWN checked out the first of the two day video shoot of the St. Lunatics' filming the first official music video for the single, "Money Talk" the first official single off the group's second CD, "City Free." The shoot was held at Vision Tracks Studios in Fenton. If you look closely, you can see YOURS TRULY, Ma'at Atkins on the far right (in blue hat and light blue shirt and dark blue pants) all in the mix as though he was part of the crew. LOL Check out below all of the behind the scenes pics from the vid and see who dropped by to be on the set!

At 9ish AM we got to the spot. The tour bus of the St. Lunatics was parked near the studios along with the crew truck for the video prep. We didnt get where the Lunatics stayed but we assume it was nearby (It was a Motel 6 next door but we dont know if they stayed there).

Inside, the crew were filming the video models' portion of the video.

A crew assistant giving the model that blow hair effect with a fan.

This model was about to do a floor shot. (As you will see in a few pics below).

One of the few signs that were posted on set for the crew and media.

This model did most of the video sashaying in the filming (as you will see later down below)

Makeup assistants touching up the models' face.

The mon-tee that were used for the video. But the money was not real (as you will see later on down below)

More prepping and filming of the models.

Meanwhile, in the green room, Lunatics member City Spud was getting a touch up on his hair and beard as the video shoot barber gets Spud edged up and videographer Chris Phillips gets all of the trimmings. The flash in the mirror came from YOURS TRULY. LOL

The director of the video, Juwan Lee (in red) and the crew sets up the money scene.

And as you see, the money aint real with the label "For MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY" on the bill.

NOTE: OUTCAM was there from 9 a.m. to about 5p.m. When we were leavng they had finished one scene with Birdman (who was surprisingly the gentleman when we were in his way when he was about to walk around. he said, "excuse me, sir." ) and local dee-jay Sir Thurl was there for his scene. Throughout the day, YOURS TRULY played commentator during the video shoot as videographer Chris Phillips digicammed it for a future YOUTUBE screening (TBD). Also on set were Lunatics member Ali and STL rapper Just Blac who arrived after we left. Also, kudos to Fresh Water who provided the H20 for err body, the best water in the planet!

And big ups to Abesi PR for putting us on the list!
