OUT 1028--ILLI MO arts and ent BITZ (July 21-27)

HEY OUTTOWNERS!

IT’S THAT TIME!!

TIME TO GET TOWNED!!!

THE BIG A&E STORYTHIS WEEK IS:

Chicago-reared rap superstar Kanye West and rap mogul Jay-Z have finally confirmed the release date for their collaborative album 'Watch The Throne'.

According to reports, speculation as to the record's emergence has been rife ever since the pair posted the first track
'H.A.M.'
and it was heavily rumoured that the album would hit the streets without warning earlier this month.

How, the hip-hop superstars have revealed that the album will be released digitally on August 1 and physically on August 5.

So the question now is will it debut at No. 1 on the charts? It’s likely. Folk have been waiting on this for almost a year now so, we think the anticipation of its release will garner huge initial sales—especially if HOVA has anything to do with it!LOL

TIED FOR BIG A&E STORY is an unrelated story on Kanye West. Apparently MTV has forgiven Ye for his infamous on stage antics two years ago with Taylor Swift because he was the second biggest nominee in the recently announced 28th Annual MTV Music Awards nominations (Katy Perry was the biggest with nine). He copped seven nominations including Best Pop Collaboration Video for “E.T.” with Katy Perry,. The other two videos he was nominated for were “All of the Lights” and “Power.” (Surprisingly his epic 15 minute film/video “Runaway”: was not nominated) The other ILLI MOians nominated were St. Joseph, Mo native Eminem with three nominations including Best Male Video for :”Love the Way you Lie” with Rihanna and Chicagoan Lupe Fiasco got one nod for “The Show Goes On” in the Hip Hip Video category. The VMAs will be aired live on MTV August 28 from the Shrine in Los Angeles.

Rolling Stone Magazine has just released its list of the top 10 albums of the '00s, and while Radiohead's experimental opus "Kid A" tops the list, two ILLI MO artistw share two CDs a piece in the Top 100. St. Joseph, Mo native rap superstar Eminem's Grammy award winning 2000 effort "The Marshall Mathers LP" winded up at No. 7. and Em's Grammy Award winning "The Eminem Show" at No. 84. "The Marshall Mathers LP," meanwhile, was praised as "a masterpiece of psychodrama."

AND

Kanye West’s Grammy award winning 2004 debut, “The College Dropout” came in at No. 10 and his third CD, “Graduation: came in at No 45.

ADD: Chicago native R&B star R. Kelly was hospitalized Wednesday after emergency throat surgery in Chicago, forcing him to give up performing for an unknown period while he recuperates,. Kelly, had complained of throat pain and was rushed on Tuesday to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where surgeons the same day drained an abscess on one of his tonsils. The R reportedly will be laid up indefinitely as he heals.

Eminem made an appearance Monday on

MTV News correspondent Sway’s first broadcast of "Sway in the Morning" on Sirius XM's Shade 45, calling into the show.

Em said, “You played such a vital part in my career and such a big role in hip-hop, we're just happy to have you," When the rapper, who owns Shade 45, said was asked by Sway for a freestyle, Em joked, "It might be dial tone."

Sway also unearthed an old interview that he conducted with Em, dating back to when the rapper first signed with Dr. Dre. 'When Em got signed, he came to our house in L.A., and he was just like, 'Man, I got this opportunity with Dre,' " Sway recalled of his and King Tech's earlier interactions with Em on their legendary on-air "Wake Up Show" in the late 1990s.

"Then we had him come up on the radio show to make that announcement and he busted a freestyle, so we played that segment." Sway said.

Sway also interviewed current rap sensation Chicagoan Lupe Fiasco

Recent Emmy nominee and Oak Park, Ill native actress Betty White declined recently an invitation to one of the upcoming Marine Corps Balls in November.
Just days after "Friends With Benefits" stars
Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis agreed to accompany two Marines to the event, the 89-year-old "Hot in Cleveland" star was propositioned.

"I would like to take Betty White, she's funny, she's sweet, she's mature, she's the all-around the perfect woman," Sgt. Ray Lewis says in a YouTube video.

Lewis, who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq, posted the video on Friday asking the Emmy-nominated actress to the ball.

"I'm fun I'm going to be performing. I think I could make her laugh, I think she could make me laugh. I think we could laugh together. It's going to be great," he says in the video.

But White says she cannot accept the invitation.

"I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation," White said in a statement released by her publicist. "As everyone knows, I love a man in uniform... but unfortunately I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of 'Hot in Cleveland.'"

The statement ended: "Love, Betty White."

Well what did the Sergeant expect? White is no way gonna take off from her taping schedule but it was nice that she at least had her publicist issue a statement on the matter, But we hear Lewis’ invitation was accepted by actress Linda Hamilton so he won’t be going stag. But it would have been cool to see White accompany Lewis just for the extremes between the two!

St. Louis raised and Emmy nominated actress Jenna Fischer announced on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday that she is expecting a boy. On the show she was asked by Jay Leno if her parents were excited about the arrival of their first grandchild and she responded, "This is the second grandchild, but first grandson."

Fischer, who currently stars in the upcoming film, ‘A Little Help” is seven months pregnant is expecting to have the child sometime in September.

The city of Chicago honored the late soul and gospel singer, Sam Cooke, who was raised in the city, with his own street. . His life and legacy were celebrated with the naming of 36th Street, Chicago, Illinois as Sam Cooke Way on Saturday, June 18. The location of Sam Cooke Way in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, is where the Cooke family settled after migrating from Clarksdale, Mississippi in the early 1930′s, initially residing at 3527 Cottage Grove Avenue and later moving to 724 E. 36th Street. The unveiling of the new Sam Cooke Way street sign took place with the participation of the office of 4th Ward Alderman Will Burns, 3rd Ward Alderman Pat Dowell, Sam Cooke’s younger brothers L.C. and David Cooke as well as other Cooke family members, legendary radio personality and “Mayor of Bronzeville” Herb Kent, Cook Country Commissioner Jerry Butler (himself a soul music legend, who proclaimed June 18, 2011 as Sam Cooke Day in conjunction with the street naming ceremony), and Chicago Blues Museum CEO Gregg Parker and well over 400 Sam Cooke fans and fellow musicians.

Bullock, who performed with the first group of 10 out of 20 finalists wowed the judges with her voice nad from the judges’ Mary Mary and Donnie McClurkin reaction, it was likely she would make the Top 10 cut after the second 10 perform next week. On the upcoming season of “Project Runway Season 9: on Lifetime, there, 20 finalists were chosen , one being designer Laura Kathleen Planck. But only 16 will actually make it onto the show. "In a 'Project Runway' first, during the premiere episode, 20 designers must go in front of Heidi, Michael, Nina and Tim to make a case why they deserve one of the 16 coveted spots this season. The new season of "Project Runway," will make its debut Thursday, July 28.

THE BIG STL STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Billed as the largest concert in STL history, rock superstar group U2 performed its 360 Tour in the sweltering heat before more than 50,000 fans at Busch Stadium last Sunday under a a tall, four-legged structure that's been monikered "The Claw," that was constructed a week prior during the All Star Break,

St Louis Post critic Kevin Johnson reported that the two hour plus concert was “boasted a great blend of style, substance and spectacle.

Below are some comments by some fans who attended the concert as reported by Arnold Patch website

-Johanna Roy, Chesterfield

"They still have what it takes to change the world. I think they already have—for the good. Thanks to them I'm a musician. Gracias Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry."

-Javier Mendoza, St. Louis musician

"It was the best rock concert I've ever seen. Interpol (the opening band) was a good band that played it by the rules. U2 came out and broke every rule, and then made their own. Rock n Roll!"

-John Frischer, Chesterfield musician

"When monumental music and entertainment value meets monumental production value (sound, lights, video, etc.), you have what we experienced in St. Louis Sunday night. I have been to many a concert in my day, but nothing this astounding! Epic! Salute!"

-Asher Benrubi, aka Smash from The Smash Band

"I thought it was once again flawless and thoughtful. It was the fourth St. Louis U2 concert that I attended. Downtown was a mirror image of New York. People everywhere. Sidewalks full of people with purpose. Hotel lobbies, restaurants and beer joints alive and taxi cabs being called at the curb. What a great look for downtown!"

-Anne Francis-Stevens, Kirkwood

"They rocked! Now I know what 'packed to the rafters' means. I've never seen Busch Stadium completely full. There wasn't a bad seat in the house!"

-Lisa Barton, Florissant

"Thought it was amazing. To have that big of a stage and still have have Bono interact with the fans, like bringing people on stage or sitting down with his feet in the crowd. To have just The Edge and Bono alone playing acoustic during 'Stay' made that huge stage still feel intimate. Great show. Set list hit every album. Thought it was cool when Bono read the set list from the Washington University show in 1981."

After the concert ended , construction workers started laying in the new sod (which was pulled up for the concert)for the infield Tuesday and started the outfield on Wednesday.

He met with Dr. William Danforth, chairman of the center; James Carrington, president; and Martin Fregene, a native of Nigeria and director of the center's BioCassava Plus program.

Three STL based venues are going through the change:

First, The Admiral was towed away from the St. Louis Riverfront Tuesday afternoon for good. A fixture on the St. Louis Riverfront since the 1940sm the cruise ship turned casino(The defunct President Casino) will now become a scrap heap. According to reports, demolition crews have been working in the past few weeks to make the riverboat shorter. Workers took off the top deck of the boat giving it another ten feet of clearance under area bridges so the boat could be moved(and because the river crest made it too high to sail normally) Tuesdays morning to a scrap yard in Columbia, Illinois.

The landmark Del Taco restaurant has close dits doors for the possible demolition, the buidng may be saved by the city’s top leaders. Mayor Francis Slay has suggested numerous times via twitter that the uniquely shaped building would look great as a coffee shop, more specifically Kaldi;s coffee Shiop who liked the idea Meanwhile a separate tweet from Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed was much more specific in regards to contacting the owner of Pi Pizzeria

PresReed: I’ve been in talks w/ owners of @pistl about unique concept restaurant in Del Taco bldg on Grand. Exciting! Stay tuned.

Two weeks ago, Board of Aldermen narrowly approved a redevelopment plan for the South Grand Boulevard historic district that could lead to the demolition of the flying-saucer-shaped former Del Taco building.Bill sponsor and 19th Ward Alderman Marlene Davis needed 15 votes to pass the plan — and she got just 15.

Local preservationists reportedly mobilized to save what they called a classic midcentury building. A Facebook group called Save St. Louis Del Taco drew thousands of members. In response, Mayor Francis Slay announced that he would tell his staff to send any demolition application to the city's Preservation Board, which has the power to hear public input and stop the demolition of historic buildings.

We like the coffee shop idea actually.

STL Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot was ejected Sunday for his constant arguing and violent behavior after a call at second base. Theriot reportedly had to reach for second baseman Skip Schumaker’s throw while trying to get a force out in the sixth inning with the Cardinals leading the Cincinnati Reds 1-0 on Sunday. Umpire Mike Muchlinski ruled that Theriot pulled his foot off the base, leaving Zack Cozart safe. Theriot immediately stormed over to Muchlinski to argue. The shortstop had to be held back, initially by first-base umpire Chris Guccione, then by Albert Pujols. Theriot said he was reportedly trying to drag his foot across the bag, from one corner to the other. After watching replays in the clubhouse, he remained adamant that Muchlinski blew the call. As a result of his actions he was reportedly suspended and fined an undisclosed amount.
